History

Established in 1973.

Chris Kegel, current Owner/​President, was one of Wheel & Sprocket’s first employees. He started as a part-​time mechanic while in college. In 1979 Chris became full partner & in 1989 became Owner.

Awards include: 20 years as Top 100 Bicycle Retailers & Top 10 Trek dealer in the Nation. Also recognized as #1 Bicycle Retailer of the Year by NBDA & WI only Bicycling Magazine’s Best Bike Shops in America’s while voted into the Top 100 Workplaces in WI.

Supporting Riders from the Start describes Wheel & Sprocket’s community involvement having supported most every cycling event right from their start including UPAF, JDRF, MS Best Dam Bike Ride, Trek 100 & Bike Wisconsin. At a National level, Chris is a founding member of Bikes Belong, Bike PAC & served as board member of NBDA, LAB & IMBA.

Local bike projects like Ozaukee Interurban Trail, reopening of Kettle Moraine trails & Mequon WI becoming a bicycle-​friendly community were a product of Chris’ and Wheel & Sprocket’s commitment to cycling.

I have been a member of the Wheel & Sprocket family for the past 15 years and truly believe that I have the best job in the world.

Not only am I personally committed to a high level of customer service, but I am proud to say that every staff member at our store is as well. We at Wheel & Sprocket aim to treat every person who walks through out door with the same level of respect as I would like to receive. As a cycling enthusiast that resides in Madison, WI with multiple shops to choose from, I always make the 90 min trip to W&S Fox Point for all my cycling needs.
After visiting multiple bike shops while searching for my first bike ten years ago, W&S Fox Point was the only shop that I walked into and felt like I wasn’t being judged. Jesse made me feel very welcomed and the knowledge all the staff and mechanics had was outstanding. The service is always top notch from the «Hello» as I walk through the door to the «Thank You» as I leave. The mechanics and sales staff’s service continues to impress me after every visit.
Wheel and Sprocket Fox Point sets the standard for shopping locally. Keep up the great work!

Edited 23 Feb. 2016: I’ve had a few less than stellar experiences in-​store that left me wanting more from Wheel and Sprocket, Fox Point. That said, the sales manager who helped me once called, apologized for messy service, and cleared things up. That’s a good sign and I’d give them another chance. The store certainly has an excellent selection and I maintain the staff is knowledgeable. I’ll give them another chance a edit the review accordingly.

Dan is the man! I just love coming here to talk about bikes and other outdoorsy things. He’s totally knowledgeable and super cute too! If you need any advice on cycling, cross country skiing, water sports or backpacking… You totally need to stop in here.

Wheel and Sprocket is the best. They love people, cycling, and supporting everyone that has an urge to ride a bike.
Riding a bike is a very personalized experience. The coolest thing about W&S is that they love what they do and share that with customers.

I asked that the item be packaged such that it would not bounce around in shipping. Unfortunately, the item was shipped with no protection, and was damaged by being banged around in shipment.
I communicated with the merchant, but they lied about the packaging, and that they had packaged everything with paper to protect the item. Not true! Avoid this merchant.

This summer I bought a beautiful Seedglass Appleseed Blue (Trek’s way of saying «sky blue») Trek Silque road bike with the help of Jesse, Dan, and a few of the other Wheel employees. I had been doing group rides at Wheel & Sprocket for three summers before my purchase and everyone at the Wheel had always been extremely kind and accommodating to me, so purchasing my new road bike here was a no-​brainer.
The managers, mechanics, and floor staff are so friendly and always happy to take the time to share their bike knowledge with any interested customers. Employees consistently go the extra mile (pun intended) for customers. Awesome family atmosphere. I look forward to the group rides here every week.
Can’t wait for CompuTrainer season!

Fantastic shop that goes above and beyond to help their customers. I grew up in the area and first started riding in middle school, and this has been my go-​to bike shop for almost 10 years now.
The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and the management really cares about the customers. I’ve been in needing a last-​minute repair, or a special order on a hard-​to-​find part, and the people have gone out of their way to help me get what I need.
Very few bike shops in the area go to this extent to help their customers, and this is a business that will treat you like family. I have been to many shops in the area and the service, selection, and attention to detail at Wheel & Sprocket Fox Point it unsurpassed.
I would highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for cycling products or services. No better bike shop in Milwaukee.

I got my new bike here, the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. My boyfriend also got a trek bike here and there was a recall on his model so he got his bike checked for free along with a $ 20 gift card for the inconvenience. Not a bad deal!

I have been waiting on a bike to be shipped for a week now and it finally left their shop today. I do not recommend this shop for bike shipping.
Here’s a rundown of the problems:
–They tried to charge my friend $ 100 more than the price they advertised on their website. It was only when he pulled it up that they adjusted the price to reflect what was on the website.
–When I called on Saturday, I talked to a couple of different people. Finally, the woman who answered said it was packed and ready to be shipped on Monday.
–When I called the following Monday, the man who answered said it was the first he heard of the bike being shipped (a full six days after the bike was supposed to be shipped).
–Today (Thursday) the shipping company’s tracking website said the bike would take 3 more business days, which means it will have taken a full 12 calendar days to get to me when Wheel and Sprocket’s website said it would only take 2 business days.
All in all, I don’t mind a short delay. But a full 12 days for something to arrive is unacceptable.

I was a former employee while a student at UWM. It’s been many years since I’ve shopped at a bike shop. I’ve been very happy with my purchase in 1990. It was my first Trek MTB. Thin walled chromoly steel. It is still serving me well. Mid level Shimano groupo. Believe it or not my now vintage steel bike is lighter than most aluminum bikes.
Nowadays people shop online for great deals. My friend did some research and found better deals at this store for new vs used items. Even on EBAY. Specifically a late model frame. The money he saved was used in their service dept. To build to his specs. And using a majority of his groupo. And a few new parts from the parts dept.
This location has a pretty large selection of any bike accessories you can possibly need.

Selection is vast for both bikes & gear. The staff is friendly, very knowledgeable & attentive. They’re avid bike riders too.
Wheel & Sprocket is the coolest bike shop in town.

So as I set out to attempt to conquer a good chunk of the interurban today, i was met with the ever so faint hissing sound of air escaping my tire. I thought to my self…“self, one should not venture on such a quest absent the only air, as you may find such lies only between ones ears!”. Soooo, i Unilocaled it up and found these guys. They were about 6 miles away and joking with Mike (one of three at the store today) i advised that would pedal fast and see him shortly, or as such was the case… take a leisurely stroll around fox point! These guys rock! They had my bike fixed and me back on the road quicker than i discovered the leak! Great job Mike and Mike and Mike and Andy (the guy who actually did my repair!)

So I’m a little late on writing this but it’s only because I’ve been having so much fun with my brand new bike!
Came here on the 25th looking for a bike for my birthday and I was overwhelmed by the positive experience I had. My bf and I knew some features we were looking for but Jesse, the manager, took us under his wing and started from ground zero with me. He was so knowledgable and taught me a great deal as he walked me through the process of picking out and testing a bike. He had a lot of patience as I asked questions and not once made me feel stupid or silly.
The team was very accomodating to all my needs (I wanted a bell, basket, water bottle holder) and was quick to install them all on my bike before I left. I really couldn’t be happier and am so glad I went here. They have a great selection of bikes (mostly Trek) and accessories. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Got the kind of treatment I would expect to get in Fox Point. Walked in and someone said hello to me, I said hello back. Then I walked around the entire sales floor and no one approached me to ask if I needed any help or had questions. Plenty of sales people were milling about doing nothing or chatting with each other.
Good selection of high-​end bikes, most were $ 500 or more. Obviously, I didn’t buy anything because no one offered to help me, even when I stopped to look at things right in front of them.
Also, to add insult to injury a Fox Point police officer was parked in the parking lot blocking the throughway with his car running, chatting with a woman in a car the whole time I was in the store, even though there were empty spots surrounding his car.

Okay, first of all I never write reviews so on the rare occasion that I write one you know its a good place. I literally bought my bike today, brought it home, took it out for a joyride and just had to say how great my experience was.
I am not an avid rider. I havent ridden a bike in maybe 4 or 5 years but I live on the east side so I figured its about time. I had tested out the Trek 820 a while back so I knew what I wanted going in. I found my bike in the store, found an employee, and showed him the one I wanted. Super fast, super easy, super nice employee. Sorry I dont remember his name. He even helped out with helmet selection and showed me the different ones. Very honest, very personable. I usually dont like bike stores. Im just not knowledgeable at all so this was a pleasant surprise. I would say from walking in to walking out with bike in hand took about 30 minutes.
I definitely reccomend wheel & sprocket for your biking needs! All around great experience for someone who knows nothing about bikes.

I was not expecting such poor customer service! I was approached by someone and ask them about buying something I did not see. He told me he would check for me and promptly walked away and started working the cash register ignoring me completely. I wanted to give them a chance to hp me but was not offered any assistance again! Vary poor service. I wi not be retuning again ever.

The only reason I found this store was after a friend ranted about their awesomeness and how they helped her find a new bike. Shortly after, I unfortunately got a flat while out on a ride and because I had have never had to replace a tube before, I turned to Wheel & Sprocket to assist with the repair.
I brought my bike in on a Tuesday after work and the store had a fair amount of people checking out the lot of bikes. I immediately found the service counter and was assist by one of their techs who not only replaced the tube but did a quick check of the bike to make sure there weren’t any other major issues. They do tune-​ups here, but the tech informed me it would be a few weeks because of the amount of bikes they already had in the queue. I imagine that toward the beginning of summer most people try to get their bikes in early. Be patient or plan ahead.
Staff is super friendly. I accompanied a friend one visit when he was looking into buying a new bike — even though he was simply looking, the staff was kind enough to talk him through the various styles, bike frames, etc. without trying to give him the ol’ sales pitch. The two major brands you’ll see here are Felt and Trek. They have others, but if you’re looking for different specific brand: call ahead.
As I pulled up on my first visit, I noticed a lot of bikers in the parking lot. I discovered that during certain nights of the week Wheel hosts group rides for various age groups. Definitely looking forward to taking advantage of them in the Spring.

Large store with a great selection and friendly staff! They were very helpful in finding everything I needed for my bike and the staffer who assisted me gave suggestions on which kind of bike lock I should buy. Their prices are good too and I ended up paying just about what I would online for a bike lock, tube, mounted pump and chamois butter.
