Ken’s Steak House

I Was in Framingham MA on business in May 2016, went to Kens Steak House just to break away from the fast food chains. WOW! Great experience, Fantastic service and Steak was perfectly prepared.
Decided to go back the following day and invited one of my customers as a treat /​thank you for his business. Again the service was spot on and everyone meal was cooked to perfection. I will definitely re– visit Kens Steak house the next time I am in Framingham Ma. Brian H.

Classic food prepared very well. We went there for a small celebration and were given an excellent booth in the corner. The waiter was attentive and not pushy. All of the food was delicious. The steaks were cooked perfectly (3 of us got 3 different steaks at different temperatures and each was thrilled). The seafood casserole was also wonderful.
My Beet salad was on the bland side and it would have been nice if the rolls were warm, but overall it was a great meal.

A pleasurable dining experience begins with a warm, enthusiastic welcome. Having read about the big plans by the grandson of the restaurant’s original founders, I talked my son into giving Ken’s a go. The guy at the maitre d’s desk barely bestirred himself to greet us… the best he could manage was «2?». As well, his careless attire did not set the tone for a steakhouse, nor was it appropriate for a restaurant with more modest goals. The waitress was fine, but shouldn’t steakhouses wow you, shouldn’t they serve tremendous steaks, selected, cut and prepared with pride? Alas, the offerings get an «O» for ordinary. Nostalgia (went there often long ago) cannot carry the day. My son joked as we left that I should take a snapshot of his leaving, because he (and I) won’t be back.

Calamari, Chicken Piccata and Prime Rib were excellent! Mario, our server was attentive but not overbearing and overall another good time at Ken’s. We’ll be back!

My wife and I just happened upon Ken’s Steakhouse head Chef Marcos and a few members of the staff at Williams Sonoma at the Natick Mall. They were cooking up samples of Ken’s menu for customers in the store. The food was amazing, but that’s only half of what drew me in. Chef’s passion is apparent, and it shows in the quality of the final product. We later went to the restaurant for dinner and were not disappointed. The service was fast and attentive. Our waitress Diana had wonderful suggestions and everything we ordered was great. I had the ribeye and it was seasoned perfectly and cooked to medium rare, just as I ordered it. I usually don’t get excited about veggies, but I’m perplexed as to how they got my side of asparagus to be so soft on the interior yet still a bit of a crisp to the outside. Delicious, and also seasoned perfectly. We also had the bacon wrapped scallops… my only gripe there would be that an app is meant to be shared and there were five scallops… not easy to fairly share an odd number. But, flavor and cook was perfect. As for the décor, it’s a bit dark, but very classy and far from ‘dirty’ as another reviewer posted. Some may call it outdated, but I found it very comforting. Thanks to Chef and his excellent staff for a wonderful Valentines dinner!

First time visit and probably won’t be returning. Great waitresses! To bad the food doesn’t live up to the same standard. Caesar salad (their specialty) overwhelmed by anchovies such that remaining ingredients were indiscernible. Ken’s Sirloin (another specialty) was tough and grisly and over cooked way beyond my request of medium rare.

We eat out at many many restaurants to find the best of the best. Ken’s was the best experience by far!
For our app, we had bacon wrapped Scallops, delicious. My husband had the Rib eye cooked perfectly with the perfectly cooked asparagus and rice.
I had my favorite, Cesar salad crisp with home made croutons and bits of fresh anchovies on a chilled plate. I also had the onion soup. Sweet and perfect… Chef Marcos made a special appearance and requested we taste his upcoming desert of coffee lady fingers and layers of deliciousness. «Too good! I can’t give it t away!»
Al in all, from the time we arrived till the time we left we felt appreciation from the staff and Chef Marcos.
The food was definitely made with love from the hands of caring chefs.

How I would love for a REAL steakhouse to replace Ken’s. A friend picks me up for dinner and I say what are you in the mood for and he said Kens. I said I have only been there twice and it was not a good experience. He had never been there so I said what the heck let’s try. Keep in mind that we have both lived in Natick over 15 years and have only visited 2x between us. Our waitress was good and very attentive.
We started with a Caesar salad and French onion soup. The soup was good and the salad was terrible. My friend had the sirloin and I had the rib eye. Neither steak was any better than an average grocery store piece of meat. Not to mention that there were so few people there on a Friday night it made me think the steaks might have been frozen. Average baked potato (just sour cream was offered no extras) and very average mashed potatoes. On to dessert, and it was more of the same. Tiramisu tasted old and had an ammonia taste. We sent it back and they did not charge us. The salted caramel gelato cake looked like it came right from BJs.
Dinner for 2 with a couple of cocktails was 100 bucks yet a trip to the Outback across the street may have produced a better meal. I know that this review doesn’t add much to the slew of all the other one star reviews, but maybe it will finally convince the owners to just sell the restaurant and stick to salad dressing!

I will start by saying the server was great and she was honest. That is only the nice thing I can say the mashed potatoes were bland and seemed like they were instant. The Caesar salad seemed gritty and had a strange flavor to it. The Romain lettuce seem wilted and had dark spots. The ribeye I ordered rare and it came med rare. The décor is very dark and the menu is dated. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It’s sad to say that Longhorn is better. I like local restaurants but this one missed the mark. I spent around 77 dollars with tip and I felt robbed. Oh did I mention that we were sat at 8 and it took till 1030 to get through the meal. Almost 3 hours that I can’t get back on New Year’s Eve.

Don’t we all need a make over… Go easy. This place is best enjoyed in simple ways. The simple sirloin is very tasty. If older people eat there it has an affordable price with quality. It’s not chez snob mignon… It’s kens steakhouse. Simple yummy and a place you can talk and where the wait staff is generally kind. I give 5 stars because I enjoy the steaks and the taste. I also love that they ought to be doing something right to Still be open and serving all these years later. It’s a destination restaurant for us… 1+½ hours from home.

We stopped by here on the way home from beer brewing in Natick. We got a reservation on Open Table. When we walked in, the host asked us if we wanted to eat at Café V, instead of the regular restaurant. We decided to go for it. Our food was decent, but for the price, I found it to be an underwhelming experience. I had the bone in rib eye. It was $ 55. While it was a good steak, the sides did not blow me away. Most prime steak houses tend to go ala carte for their prime steaks, and I do appreciate that the sides were included, but I didn’t feel that the Delmonico potatoes were very decadent. The Caesar salad was nothing special. Although, my boyfriend says that his appetizer of pan seared scallops were the best scallops he has had in ages… go figure, at a steak house!!! I have had better steaks/​sides for the price. Our meal for four people was $ 286 not including tip. For that price, I want to feel like I have had one of the best meals I have ever had. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel that way. It was good, not great. For $ 286, I want great. So, wrapping this up, I would really give 2.5 stars based on the cost mostly, but since I can’t give that extra half star, I will stick with meh, 2 stars for the expensive dinner we had.

What was long ago a grand restaurant in the area is now in desperate need of Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible. The décor is old, dark and dirty. When you arrive, the hostess stand only promotes a multitude of their retail bottled salad dressing… really? The waiter forgot my appetizer order. The wine list is severely lacking with no vintage identification on any wine and when you ask to see a bottle, instead of a year, the wine should really state «just squeezed» or «grape juice in progress.» My friend’s filet was average at best. My jambalaya was also average at best. For the money, you’ll get a better meal at Outback. It’s time for the owners to sell this place and let it get restored or torn down and replaced by something else.

This place has been around for a long time. For some reason the owner doesn’t care about it.
It’s a dinosaur that should be extinct. The food is tired and the décor is tired. They had horrible mashed potatoes and that is hard to screw up. It is taking up valuable space on rt. 9. Please close so something else can go there.

The bar was energized and lively on Friday night. Great music by Peter Fareese. Had a special dish that was tips and a DELISH cream sauce with mushrooms.

I’ve been wanting to come here since I was a little kid The only Italian salad dressing I buy is kens but it was hardly any on the salad and lettuce was wilting The rolls had to be day old The steak Kens signature dish sirloin 12 oz was something at the Stop & Shop and you can get for 7 bucks throw on my new wave oven with the same outcome It sucked fatty grisly no flavor over priced at $ 24 bucks I’m pissed the only thing good was the bartender awesome courteous pretty and made a great martini I will never darken these doors again ! SO DISAPPOINTED!!! GOD I MISS THE HILLTOP!!! KEN must be rolling over in his grave It’s so bad there now Very nice looking inside but looks are obviously deceiving, Do everyone a favor and sell the place could have gotten 2 meals at Outback or Texas Roadhouse or 3 at the 99s wich by the way has awesome steaks that are full of flavor

I see $$$$…I came here with my Fiancé and I was so excited since we rarely come to Framingham to eat with the variety of restaurants… Ken’s with their history and being a popular place in the past… we came here since my fiancé had never been.
Although the drinks and steaks were awesome… it wasn’t worth the price for sure.
This is one of the only steak houses that does not include salad with their steaks and their steaks are expensive!
We ordered our salads and they were weak! For a steak house known for their signature salad dressings we were not impressed at all… they were stingy on the dressing and the house salad only had lettuce onion and tomoatoes… no cucumber… no croutons… no eggs no cheese. The lettuce was wilted so it wasn’t fresh… the Cesar salad was good but stingy on the dressing. Their bread could have been good but it seemed microwaved dry and tasteless.
The steaks and sides were amazing! But expensive… The drinks are small for the price as well… Sadly, the present impression if Ken’s is not as great as their past… probably wouldn’t be my first choice to come back to when restaurant searching.

At first glance this place should be good. It’s a steak house, it’s got the grand dining room with white table cloth, piano guy, fireplace, and even the 90 year old manager/​owner greeting you out front, what could go wrong?
First, the menu. There is no bone-​in-​ribeye, for a steak house. I reluctantly ordered the boneless version, while my friends had the new york strip. To describe the steak as tasteless is an understatement. How can a piece of beef, cooked medium rare, be without any taste? Am I in an alternate universe? Well, it is route 9 in Framingham.
Well, the rule of never asking for A1 at a steak house was broken, and the salt shaker went to work. I added one star for the dessert, which was delicious.

I’ve been coming here since I was knee-​high to a grasshopper and have MANY fond memories of eating lunch here with my dear Grandmother and Mom in the «stained glass room» over the years (1970’s & 80’s). So when I began going again a few years ago, the new experiences I had were bittersweet.
PROS: One of the few «old fashioned» places still around. Great if you’re in the mood for a relaxed multi-​course meal. Love their world famous salad with Ken’s Italian dressing! Tastes better here than at home for some reason. :)
CONS: As of August 2014, there’s a new Lunch Menu with higher prices, one less side, and NO salad included, so the value has gone WAY down, in my opinion. Also, twice, I ordered my chopped sirloin medium-​rare and twice received it medium-​well. Not being able to cook meat to order does not bode well for a steakhouse. (Sigh). The service has been sketchy at lunchtime, too.
My experiences at dinner have been better than at lunch, so I will give them another shot and let you know how it goes.

Don Draper would feel very much at home here. Bricks and dark panelling on the walls. Wood beams on the ceiling. Wrought iron light chandeliers. Thick heavy gilded frames on oil paintings. Kens was old school before old school became a cliché.
Went to a group dinner tonight, in the rear private room. We had an entrée choice of prime rib, chicken parm, or salmon. I went for the salmon and wished I didn’t –it was overcooked and dry –yucko! The prime rib looked like a rare bloody mess. The chicken parm was the clear winner at our table.
We’ve had buffet dinners here many times and the food quality certainly was better than what I saw tonight.
Ken’s has been around forever, and the main dining room was packed. I’ll give them 3 stars for their reputation and longevity…
