Terrible Company!!!
Installed a new wood stove for me and when it began leaking water during periods of rain I could not get anyone from the company or its owner to return my phone call!
Had to have Town Building Inspector force them to call me!
Ultimately the piping came apart in my house during a windy day!
I may take them to Court!

I had Barry John install a wood insert for me. They were great. The guys were professional and knowledgeable. They didn’t make a mess at all, cleaned up after themselves. They were able to answer all questions I asked and even gave me a lot of safety tips like not to do the first few break-​in fires with my infant son in the house and to keep our cat and dog away in a ventilated area. Also recommended safety measures like a gate around it since our son will be crawling soon (which I happened to already buy anyway, but it was nice that he thought to mention it). Lastly, they gave me the best price of the few companies I contacted.

I bought a wood stove and the store contracted these guys to install it along with a stainless steel liner. They were outstanding. They really cared about doing it right and were happy to share their knowledge with me. VERY professional. In fact, I am very likely to use them to rebuild my chimneys.

I used Barry John for a few years and they were great until last year. My chimney cover blew off and i called to have it replaced. Steve quoted me a price to replace it with the exact same one and when I came home a saw it I realized it wasn’t. I looked online and saw the same one for $ 35.00 and they charged me $ 180.00 for it. Now thats a rip off. They also charged me $ 125.00 more for my chimney clean outs. Total bill was over $ 700.00 and the guys were only there about a hour. So it looks like we wont be using them any more just when you think you can trust someone they turn around and stab you in the back with a bogus bill. Good luck BJ word gets around fast.

We have been using Barry John Chimney Sweeps for 30 years. He comes every year when he is scheduled. Does a great job and knows his stuff. We also had to have the liner of the chimmney replaces. he used stainless steel. By getting your chimney cleaned every year it gives you peace of mind! It’s worth it.

We had raccoons in the chimney, and I called three different companies. I went with Barry John because the owner told me that removing them sometimes causes the mother to abandon the juveniles. He said that, as long as they couldn’t get into the house and cause us any harm, it was best (and cheapest) to let them leave on their own. They did, and we called him right away.
Barry John is only slightly cheaper to clean flues as most other chimney sweeps, but we also needed work done on our furnace flu. It was made of terra cotta (I think) and was very old and crumbling. The team of two men replaced it with a new liner, which took only a day, and left a clean work area behind.
My policy is that you should never give your money to someone you don’t like. I had to write a big check (only because we needed the liner replaced), and it didn’t hurt because I felt like I had chosen the right company.
