I saw Dr. Funteas for a root canal consult. She was very thorough and careful to explain everything clearly. She let me know the possibilities that could arise, and how each would be addressed. She also explained the potential things that could go wrong, and the likelihood that she could save the crown on the tooth in question. The root canal went well, the pain was gone, and the crown was saved. I saw her for follow up, and she also includes a follow in one year at no charge. Subsequently, and for reasons apparently unrelated to the root canal, the crown broke and I was unable to reach my regular dentist. Dr. Funteas stayed late in her office to see me and reassure me that no serious harm was done, and the the issue could be addressed by my dentist when she is available. I find Dr. Funteas and the staff in the office to be kind, gentle and friendly. I would not consider another endodontist.

I was referred to Dr Funteas for a consultation regarding a root canal. The office staff was very nice and the atmosphere is pleasant. However, I should have run away when the first thing Dr Funteas said to me, before even looking at my tooth, was«If we can save your tooth…» Now, I know there are no guarantees and that not all procedures are successful, but to start off with the presumption that the tooth’s survival is unlikely is a dark proposition. However, I made an appointment to come back on a Friday for a root canal. The dentist performed a partial root canal because almost immediately she determined that the tooth was unsalvageable and she closed it up and recommended that I have the tooth pulled as soon as possible. I was numbed up and sedated so I went home and rested and planned to consult another dentist promptly. However, the next day(Saturday) I was in terrible pain – for the first time with this tooth – and I called the office and got the answering service. I explained my predicament and the person who answered the phone assured me that the dentist would get back to me directly. An hour later, I called again. No call back. Another hour passed and I called again. I was in terrible pain and no one had called me back. Finally, after nearly 4 hours had passed, the dentist on call finally telephoned me.(he said he had left me several messages, but my phone never rang, nor were there any voice messages ever delivered, so I’m not sure who he was calling.) The doctor was clearly not interested in my situation and sighed in exasperation when I told him what was happening. He admonished me to have the tooth removed as soon as possible, and scolded me for not taking an antibiotic. Uh, excuse me? Am I supposed to just order my own drugs? Anyway, he finally called a pharmacy to have a pain med prescription filled for me, but then called me back and complained that the pharmacy that was convenient for me was closed. Well, a four hour delay will do that. So he called another pharmacy and I was able to get some pain medicine in my system and get some relief. However, I have heard not one peep from anyone at the office. I am surprised that there has been no follow up after my very unhappy experience. I would not recommend this office for any procedure. I am very disappointed. I have consulted with another endodontist.
