I paid him in full and he never finished the job. He charged me over double what other companies charge (he installed a $ 50 chimney cap from Lowes and a smoke guard that I bought, and ran a test fire: totaling 2 – 3 hours of labor. Once he stopped showing up I called a local company to get a quote for the work he had performed, which was $ 350-​$ 400. We offered him $ 600 for what he had completed, but he wanted $ 1300.) He got angry when I asked for an itemized receipt, refused to provide a tax ID number, and only seemed to be available to work evenings and weekends with his kids in tow. We were patient for a month while he no-​showed, didn’t call when he said he would, wouldn’t answer our calls or texts, and had lots of excuses for not coming to finish when he said he would. He finally promised to send checks (twice) to reimburse us for the work he had not yet finished, and never did, finally refusing to altogether unless we removed our reviews about our experience. Now he’s harassing people my husband works with and even texted us at 3:30am telling us that he will badmouth us and put our personal information online if we don’t take our reviews down.
He’s also advertising as licensed, but after checking with the Attorney General’s office they could not find him in their system. They advised us to sue him for contractor fraud and file a complaint with them. Yikes.
