Dr. Douglas Weikert is the best when it comes to fingers/hand/arm surgery. When I needed surgery for a finger, it was a complete success. Dr. Weikert explained exactly what he was going to do beforehand and patiently answered any questions I had. I feel so fortunate that we have Vanderbilt Orthopaedics and especially Dr. Weikert in Nashville, TN.

I just got off the phone with one of the most rude appointment setters I’ve ever encountered. Her tone was rude and unwelcoming. I’ve been treated better at the Motor Vehicles office. Further, she proceeded to ask for my Social Security Number, address, DOB etc. I understand needing my full name, DOB and Insurance Carrier but my SSN and full address just to make an appointment? I’ve never in my 39 years been asked for this information over the phone to make a doctor’s appointment. When asked why she needed such personal information she said«We need to set up a full medical record before the doctor can see you» I asked«Can you make the appointment without my SSN?» She said«Absolutely not!» And here I thought Vanderbilt was one of the best medical institutions there is. Yes, this one call has put a bad taste in my mouth.

I have now been frequenting Vandy Ortho and Rehab for the past month since pinching a nerve in my shoulder and tearing my rotator cuff(spelling?). Positives: They have more than an ample amount of pleasant receptionists working the office. I’ve never been in there during the week with less than 3 receptionists on duty. And, unlike many a doctor office, they actually want to greet you, want to talk to you, and want to help you.(Shocking, I know.) If you’re the shy type and don’t want to speak to another person, then you can use their convenient automated check-in machine(it looks somewhat similar to what those ATMs in bars look like) and the front of the office. That’s pretty convenient if you ask me. Dr. Paul Rummo(DO) is the Orthopaedist whom I saw. He was cordial, explanatory about what he was doing and the tests that he was performing, and spoke with me about the origination and levels of my pain. He was both professional and cordial. I am not sure if you have choice of DOs here, but if your insurance company will allow you a choice from folks in the practice then know that I recommend Dr. Rummo. Flavio Silva is my Physical Therapist guru. And I sincerely mean«guru». The pinched nerve pain has gone the way of the dodo thanks to Flavio. Very professional, explains each step of the PT and the reasons behind your pain origination(that next level of detail beyond Dr. Rummo). Also, highly recommend(if you are allowed to choose by your insurance company). Negatives: I can see it not being a convenient office for people who work downtown. I happen to literally work across Cool Springs Blvd. from the office so… super convenient for me. Kind of hard to find that first time. You think you’re turning into an old folks home, but you are not. But after that first multiple turn around trying to find it time, you know from then on.
