Bob Nichols Paving Contractor

Bobby Nichols came out to my home and repaired my existing driveway as well as extended it to increase parking. I interviewed 4 contractors and absolutely made the correct choice in hiring his company. He offered sound advice and his crew was professional. He stayed in close communication with us throughout the process. Did what he said he would do and showed up when he said he would. Our driveway looks spectacular and is a much better quality then even when it was originally done by the builder when our home was brand new. I couldn’t be happier and would absolutely recommend him and his company again. As a Realtor. I know that I will have ample opportunity to do just that and look forward to making many of my own clients as happy as I am.

I received a total of 4 quotes before deciding on Bob Nichols Paving for our house in Potomac. Bob was the only one I felt I could trust with our driveway. We had a very ugly riva rock driveway in an otherwise nice house in Potomac that had not been maintained by the previous owner. Bob was very professional on the first meeting. He was very open about the different options (asphalt vs. a combination of pavers & asphalt). He made suggestions for making the driveway and borders more luxurious, but did not pressure us into upgrading. My husband and I could tell he knew what he was talking about, having built restaurants and worked on a variety of major home improvement for our homes.
This business is not your two guys knocking on doors saying they will top coat your driveway, and leave a mess that cracks in one month. This is the REAL deal. He has top of the line equipment and machinery. He gets fresh asphalt while other contractors buy the stuff off of Gude Drive that is recycled from old roads. The guys who work for him know what they are doing.
Two of my neighbors had top coating done on their driveways around the time my driveway was laid with pavers and asphalt. Only after this did I realize there is a difference in quality of asphalt. The neighbors driveways started cracking very soon after the weather changed. My asphalt is holding with no crack in sight.
The pavers guys worked long and hard, and I can see the difference in work quality because they are holding still despite the many Fed Ex and UPS trucks that pass through several times a day. (I had a paver job done by a general contractor several years back that buckled and shifted even without trucks passing by, so I can tell the difference.)
Interestingly enough, Bob’s quote was the least expensive from all 4 quotes. But he was the only one who made solid suggestions about certain details while keeping in mind my budget. He was the only one I felt wouldn’t stop halfway during the job and ask me for more money than what the estimate asked for (this has happened to me before with many other contractors). I had one contractor call me with a verbal quote, without even bothering to send me something in writing, and it was way above what Bob quoted me.
If there is anything I wish I could have changed, or anything negative, it is that when you have your driveway done, you have to keep in mind that the schedule is completely dependent on Mother Nature. Bob does quality work, so he has a schedule. If it rains for 3 days, then your job that was scheduled for next week Monday will most likely be delayed until Thursday. There were many rainy days during the time of our driveway, so there was a delay. Bob was very good about keeping me in the loop about what the schedule was looking like. Even when there was a utility issue that ended up being a random Comcast failure, Bob was very quick to come to our house to address the issue to make sure.
In our 20 years of working with the best and the very worst of contractors, Bob is one of the best guys I have worked with. He isn’t warm and fuzzy and won’t show you pictures of his puppies, but he will give you an honest price, do the job right, have quality-​driven guys work on your driveway and make sure your driveway is something worth being proud of.

Bob Nichols Paving did an excellent job repairing and resurfacing our drive way. Bob and his crew were very professional and did a great job. His pricing was very reasonable. They did an outstanding job and are very meticulous in everything even the cleanup they did after. He even removed an old stump next to our driveway as a courtesy which was outside what he was contracted for. We will definitely use for all our paving needs!

I received another call from Mr. Nichols last week. He wanted to come fix something the next day, and have a document signed that he had fixed it. When I told him to call my father and mother who are the property owners and the actual clients –and that I was not comfortable meeting nor speaking with him — he asked me would I take down my review then after he had made a (small, not even the problem) repair. I told him that I would certainly update that he had repaired this tiny item one year after the fact.
My parents have received no communication, no visit from Mr. Nichols. They were not contacted after the initial complaint ten months ago. They were not contacted after my review was noticed. The repair is not made.

The work itself was quality. Bob himself oversaw the project, and brought three guys to assist on our new back patio. It was done quickly and efficiently. I was pleased with the end result., and I paid a very reasonable price.
So, why only three stars?
I had a couple of issues that were dissapointing. First — the guys left a bunch of their lunch trash in our backyard. The next morning, I found that our backyard had been ransacked by animals, with food garbage everywhere — remnants of big macs and wrappers and cups scattered.
My second issue is that I have requested on three seperate occassions to recieve a receipt for the work. Bob swears that he has mailed me two copies, and I’ve verified that he had the correct address. But I have yet to recieve a single one. On my third call to him, he was indignant about it, and started getting upset with me. I really did not appreciate the attitude. I still don’t have a receipt from the job done back in April, four months ago.
