I was on my way to do volunter work in west texas when my check engine light came on. I googled auto repair shops and Doc’s came up. I made my way to his business and found Doc about to eat his lunch. he got up and greeted me and I explained my situation and check engine light. Doc hooked up the my car to his equipment and checked my car out. the results showed no issue. Doc then checked my tires anad fluids and belts all checked out. Apparently I had gotten bad gas and the sensor light was picking up the knocking from the bad gas Doc reset my check engine light and gave me piece of mind When I asked how much I owed I was told no charge. what a gentleman. I would use Doc again. I would recommend him to my friends.

We blew a hole in our exhaust system while on a lengthy road trip. We called him early in the morning, and he fixed it right away. Excellent, professional service. He even loaned us his pick up to go run errands while the car was being repaired. Saved our trip, highly recommend him.

On our first day of driving from Austin to Portland, OR in a 2011 Mini Cooper, the check engine light came on and we found Doc’s. We were prepared to spend the night in Fredricksburg, thinking that the car would need something that they wouldn’t have in stock and would have to order(I had scoped out the local La Quinta, knowing that they allow dogs), but Doc made sure that didn’t happen. After being greeted by Doc with a firm handshake, a technician pulled the car into a bay and ran a diagnostic to determine the problem. About 15 minutes later, we find out the ambient temperature sensor is on the fritz, but nothing that should keep us from making the rest of our journey. What did it cost? A handshake. I would hope that many people don’t find themselves in need of auto repair services, but we do. If you are in need and happen to be anywhere near Doc’s, I HIGHLY recommend their services.

Doc is an absolutely wonderful mechanic AND human being! I was driving home to California after attending the Round Top Antique show with a heavily loaded van and just as I was merging onto 10-W I hit a nearly full grown doe(I had successfully avoided two other deer, I know about deer, especially in late summer/early fall) and nearly lost control of the vehicle because the front left tire bent after the impact. I got it safely to the side, called the sheriff(who was very kind and let me use his cell phone which had MUCH better reception), Aaron of All-Ways Hauling(also from Fredericksburg but with no Unilocal review to sing his praises) picked me up and safely stored my van until the insurance appraiser could come THREEDAYSLATER. Once I had the damage assessed doc could come and tow my van. He had it working and safe to drive home the very next day with just a bent tie-rod, securing the loose bits, and trimming the fender. Total was less then $ 400.00 and he dropped me off at my Motel and picked me up to get me to my van. I ended up spending five days in Fredericksburg, but since I had always wanted to explore the town it ended up being a bit of a forced«vacation». Everyone I met was very kind, but especially Doc, who got me safely back on the road to my family. When I got home my mechanic(who is the grandson of our family’s original mechanic) said what an excellent job he had done. There is no higher praise!

I’m actually sad I can’t give Doc 100 stars. This man legitimately saved my life — at a minimum, my personal sanity. Long version below, but for those who don’t want a lengthy review: bottom line is Doc is literally the best mechanic you can find; certainly in Texas, maybe the world. I was making the roadtrip from Austin to San Diego and my car starting making a very startling clunking noise. It sounded like I was driving on rims with no tires, but my tires were all fine. Not knowing the area, I went to Unilocal to try and find a mechanic nearby. I drive a BMW and apparently not too many repair shops in Fredericksburg fix those. One shop told me I’d have to stay in town for at least a week. The rest of them more or less laughed at me when I asked if they could fix a BMW. Tears streaming down my face, I called Doc and he said he could probably fix it, but would need to take a look and to bring it down. Did I mention it was 4:45PM and he closes at 5? Yeah, I was that person. But he greeted me with a warm smile and put my car up on the racks ASAP. Turns out my drive train was on its last leg and the universal drive shaft was shredded and nearly gone from damage. Well, Doc got on the phone for me and called everyone he knew to see how quickly he could get the needed parts to fix it. The parts were back in Austin and it was too late for next day shipping, so he went above and beyond kindness; letting me borrow his car to pick the parts up in Austin so he wouldn’t have the charge me for the time and labor of a 3 hour round trip. I found my own accommodations for the night, but he had his assistant look up places for me just in case. Cut to noon the next day and my car was good as new. Doc and his team hustled to make sure I could be on the road ASAP the next day, without compromising quality of work. After this ordeal he felt like family, I gave him a huge hug and thanked him profusely. He took better care of me than my own dad would! His response? «Well, I just want to treat people the way I’d want to be treated if I was in their shoes.» And you could tell by how busy his shop was and his repertoire with the other customers, that was this truth. When I got back to CA, my good friend and BMW mechanic looked at my car, looked at my bill, and was shocked beyond belief at the quality of work for 1⁄3 of what anyone else would charge. Please go see Doc for all your car needs! You’ll be in the best of hands, and you’ll get warm and fuzzy and happy knowing there’s still good, honest, kind people out there who care about more than just making money.

Came to Fredericksburg to do some shopping and my car started making a terrible noise. Called Doc’s(based on reviews) to see if they could get to my car that same day. They said yes. Took my car in, even though the noise had disappeared(didn’t want to get stranded on the way home). They checked everything out– couldn’t find a problem, and didn’t charge me a dime.

My car overheated near Fredericksburg on the drive from Austin. We managed to get it to Doc’s, arriving 4:30 pm. He and his staff were gracious to immediately examine despite the late hour. They carried out a pressurized leak test, inspection of the cooling system and extensive test drive. They gave us the go-ahead to head back to Austin and we made it back without further cooling system incident. Very pleasant, knowledgeable and affordable. I would highly recommend this business to resident and travelers alike.
