This is a quaint little city in the middle of nowhere. - The reason why you are here is because you are visiting the many decent wineries in the area. - The town has many nice bed and breakfasts to stay at. There are many little shops in town to wander through. There are some excellent restauarants in the area(reservations needed! Check out Otto’s!!!) - It’s a perfect place to spend a few days. We loved it!

Don’t say F F-Burg! This place is F-in’ awesome! It’s the home of the Nimitz War Museum! Such a cool place. Wineries? Yes! German?! Ja! This is one of only a very, very small handfuls of cities that you can legally walk around with an open alcohol container. It’s legal to grab a beer to go, and just go cruising down the sidewalk with it. It feels out of place for Texas. Believe me. I love coming here. It’s a relaxing roadtrip just about an hour outside of San Antonio. There’s so much to see and do here. I recommend checking this place out.

Oh F*Burg, I love you so much. You are such a welcome host when I visit. Offering me a place to stay from one of your ‘more B&Bs in a town per capita than anywhere else in the U.S.’ You invite me to stroll friendly Main Street and enjoy shopping and some German food to eat. And then you pour me a variety of fine Texas wines… and more wine… and yet even more wine. Tehn… ehem…I mean then I turn into a vino soaked aggravated wino with nowhere else to go because everything closes at 5… except Whatabuger. And I get even more upset because in my bored stupor I realize I can’t even call a friend due to the fact that I have absolutely no cell phone single. rrr…signal! Wasss up with u FBurg? I thont vant to stop being fsineds… zzzzzzZ *Post Dearest F*Burg, I am so sorry. It appears that I may have overindulged a bit last night and drunk Unilocaled you. You really are a great friend to visit for the weekend and such a short drive from Austin. And you always have so many things ready for me to do. Yeah, the stores close early, but I know you need some rest at times. You still invite me to dinner. And after dinner we can share more wine together. Just can’t get enough of your wine. If you find it in your heart to forgive me, I’ll be happy to visit you again and again! I promise I won’t be such a lush guest next time. Still BFFs? xoxo, D

I love visiting the city of Fredericksburg. There are a couple breweries and a vast number of wineries in Fredericksburg. On Main Street you will find several tasting rooms where you can not only purchase a tasting but you can get wine and beer in to go cups to enjoy while strolling down Main Street. Small town charm with a nightlife. While the town is sleepy Monday through Thursday, there is live music at several venues both in and out of town on weekends. Stop by Gastehaus Schmidt and pick up a current music schedule on Fridays. Speaking of Gastehaus Schmidt renting a cabin, cottage, or a room at a B & B is easy using their website. I have rented through them several times and had an excellent experience. I usually rent a cabin with a yard walking distance from Main Street. The first Friday of the month they have an art walk. Artists are often on site greeting guests and most have complimentary snacks, wine and beer for customers. You can find bronze statues, pottery, jewelry, paintings and other artwork. There are new up and coming restaurants from excellent owners and chefs such as Otto’s. I don’t think most restaurants do it up right and they charge too much, visiting a German restaurant while in Fredericksburg is a must. Most have a dog friendly beer gardens. Some of the shops and many of the restaurants and bars allow dogs. There is a cute pet boutique, Dogologie where you can rent a dog stroller or board your dog for short periods of time. The town of Fredericksburg is thick with history. It is everywhere you look from the town square, historical markers, Sunday houses and cabins dating back to the 1800s. And of course there is the Pacific War Museum and the Japanese Tea Garden. The fair is a big deal here. The whole town shows up at 11 am on a Friday for the parade leading up to the fair. If you are in Texas, Fredericksburg is the place to be during Oktoberfest.

I love the car ride to Fredericksburg coming in from Johnson City. All the wineries, Wildseed Farms, Johnson State Park, and the scenery lends itself to plenty of photo opps. Coming in to Fredericksburg, Main Street USA is at your fingertips with all the boutiques, bakeries, and antique shops lined up waiting for you to explore. Of course, don’t limit yourself to just the main drag either — venture out into the other streets and you’ll get a little bit of the ‘local hideouts’ without hiking out to a far distance. Fredericksburg has a lot of history to share with you too. The Nimitz Museum is a great stopover — definitely check out the Japanese Garden of Peace. A zen garden in town? No way! Annual events such as Fredericksburg Trade Days, the Gillespie County Fair, St. Nikolausmarkt, and Oktoberfest are just a few things that are celebrated here as well. They’re definitely very active in the Hill Country! I can spend hours and hours here — and I have plenty of times. One of my favorite towns in Texas hands down!

Lots of cute and unique shops. It was frustrating that everything closed at 5:30 or 6:00, but now you know, so you can plan accordingly.
