History
Established in 1998.
The Peña family had the vision of a supermarket chain that would provide quality products, exceptional service and low prices to the community. After three years of working to make this dream a reality, a new chain known as Compare Foods, opened its doors to serve the community on October 1989 in Freeport, New York. The success with which the first store was met encouraged the family to open a sister store in Brentwood, New York. Today, the Peña, Jorge, and Gutierrez families operate stores in NY, CT, RI, MA, SC and NC. Wherever Compare Foods has opened a new supermarket, the community has enthusiastically embraced it and has continued to give it support.
Compare Foods works hard to better the communities it serves. It sponsors and supports local groups such as churches, youth services and non-profit organizations. It constantly looks to make the neighborhood and its surrounding area a better place to live, work and do business in.
