History

Established in 1987.

This 1888 Victorian-era New England house was once the boyhood home of Arctic explorer Donald B. MacMillan. MacMillan was second-in-command to Adm. Robert Peary.

We believe this building was one of the original ’ Mallet Homes ’ built by EB Mallet to house the workers and managers of his many Freeport businesses back in the late 1800’s.

Winthrop Fogg, the original Freeport town pharmacist was the first resident of the building. He lived here with his wife, Letitia and their children as well as Letitia’s brother, Donald MacMillan.

The building has been a family home, a day care, an art studio and now a bed and breakfast.
