History
Established in 1980.
A Child’s Hideaway is a private child care center first established in September of 1980. Owner/Director Brenda North, designed and built the Grimmer Blvd. facility, on property formerly used as a breeding farm for registered quarter horses, operated by her grandparents Alvin and Elsie Eaton.
In March of 1988, A Child’s Hideaway expanded by opening a second facility in the Centerville area of Fremont, which houses a Jr-Kindergarten program as well as a full and part-time child care services.
We at A Child’s Hideaway are committed to «learning for a lifetime», by promoting and fostering the intellectual, social and physical growth of each child in our care.
Self esteem and awareness of others is an essential part of development for children and we at A Child’s Hideaway develop this through teacher guided activities that ensure all children’s development is supported and enriched.

Business Owner
The plan for A Child’s Hideaway was
a college project Brenda prepared for
her administration class. Her dreams
became a reality in September 1980,
when A Child’s Hideaway opened its
doors.
Brenda graduated from Irvington High
School and received her degree in
Early Childhood Studies in 1974. She
continued her education at San Jose and Santa Cruz University, along with attending management seminars through private agencies. She also holds her Master Teacher permit from California Department of Education.
Before opening A Child’s Hideaway she taught for two years at Ohlone College child lab in Fremont and Newark and then taught for six years with the City of Fremont, Tiny Tot program.
Brenda is also one of the founders of ECDC, Early Childhood Directors Cooperative, which works towards promoting quality childcare and updating the childcare field in the Tri-City area.
