Ascend Salon

I had been going to this salon for at least three years. I’ve never had a bad experience and I’ve referred a few people here as well.
Last weekend I had an appointment and I received a phone call 10 minutes prior to my appointment notifying me that the girl who I was scheduled with no longer worked at the salon… seriously? I’m being notified 10 minutes prior to my appointment when I had scheduled it three weeks prior? I was also coming from and hour away and was almost in Ascend’s parking lot. The way the whole situation was handled was really disappointing… all I got was a curt «I apologize, I thought someone had contacted you.» No effort to rectify their mistake so I won’t be making an effort to come back.

I really hate having to give this unpleasant rating, especially because I’ve had good experiences at this salon in the past. I went in for a cut recently with Emily and I came out with an awful, uneven, chunky and blunt layered cut. I had showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted and she said she could do it. As she was cutting, I kept thinking, this looks off. At one point, she stated herself that the layers looked a little thick in front. I couldn’t tell how chunky and uneven it looked because she immediately started to dry and curl my hair during the blow drying process.
I got home, washed my hair so I could see how it looked without the curls she added, and wanted to cry. The layers were way too thick and blunt in front and the back layers were too thin near the bottom making it look like I had a mullet in the back. It looked nothing like the picture I showed her. I thought maybe I could live with how bad it looked but then gave in and tried to fix it myself. I am a total amateur but I was able to turn the horrible cut into something a little better with some thinning and texturizing in front and cutting off the too thin layers in the back.
I’ve never had to fix a salon cut before this one. Emily is a nice girl but she really needs to improve her layering technique. I should have heeded the advice of another Unilocaler who also complained about her layering skills several months ago. It’s too bad that Melanie, their best stylist, no longer works there. It’s time for me to find a new salon, unfortunately.

Got my hair cut by Melanie today. She was wonderful. When I arrived I was offered a drink. The facility was very nice modern and clean. While cutting my hair, Melanie explained the process which I appreciate since it has been very hard for me to trust people with my hair for a pretty long time. If you can schedule an appointment on the week day (except Monday since they are closed) then it’s less busy around 11 am. I went on my lunch break from work and when I got back, many of my coworkers complimented me and asked where I went. I look forward to my next visit!

I am in love. Amazing service from the ladies there, so sweet but not over the top. I hadn’t got my hair cut in 9 – 12 months and desperately needed some work. I was able to make a same day appointment with Melanie, who let me just say is the best hair stylist I’ve been to in YEARS! I just moved to Fremont from San Jose and am so lucky I have found my new salon. Melanie did an amazing job and was so friendly and easy to talk to.

I’ve gone to this salon a couple of times for haircuts, and Emily has been my stylist. She’s great! She is really nice and always asks questions about my hair type and styling so that she can get a better idea of the look that I’m going for. My visits have been very pleasant and I’ve been completely satisfied with my hair when I walk out. I highly recommend Ascend and stylist, Emily.

I’ve had my hair done here 3 times by 3 different people and each time, I was disappointed because it was not what I wanted. But this latest appointment officially made me think «no more.»
I was going for a very dark grey/​brown look so the girl bleached my hair 3 TIMES in total. However, in the end, it turned into some turquoise color. She tried to make things better by dying it my «natural» color, but she dyed it straight BLACK; which in my opinion, looks like a completely fake black. Nowhere near natural. Reminded me of back in my middle school days when people dyed their hair completely black and wore Hot Topic. Even one of the other stylists said my hair was a very DARK brown during my 1^st experience there.
I’m tired of spending money on something I do not like, especially since it is on the pricey side here.
All of the stylists and staff are nice and I’m grateful that they offered me a refund, but now my hair is completely fried and it is hard to look at myself without being extremely insecure and disappointed. What makes things worse is that it is my birthday this Saturday. Completely ruined the occasion.

I came here for the first time yesterday and had Emily as my stylist. She first assessed different things about my hair like what kind of haircut I wanted and whether I wanted one part of my hair thicker than the other. I have curly hair and finding a place that cuts/​styles curly hair can be difficult. She also asked me if I had any general concerns for my hair and recommended some good products. I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone. They have great customer service and really listen to what you want.

Great salon and friendly staff! I got partial highlights done and a haircut. Emily did a great job letting me know what she was doing along the way, and gave me subtle highlights — just what I wanted. I definitely recommend this salon.

Ever heard of customer service? Your hostess is a disaster. The stylist Emily was no better. Making a returning client with an appointment wait 30 minutes after the appointment time without so much as eye contact is unacceptable. Clearly you don’t value your customers or their time.

I have largely ignored my hair for almost a year due to illness and wanted to give it some life. I made an appointment with Melanie to get purple and red highlights that stand out but still look classy. Melanie seemed to know exactly what I was going for and gave me beautiful color! It was just the right shade to complement my brown skin and black hair, and yet enough vibrancy to make the highlights ‘pop’. She also gave me a fantastic trim which really added life to my thin and neglected hair. I am super happy with the results and even after two weeks the color looks amazing indoors and outdoors. I am already thinking about which shades to get next once the color fades out (blue?)

I’ve had super long hair down to my waist my whole life and woke up one day and decided to get it short, at least up to my 6^th rib (still considered long but i wanted a slow transition to shorter hair eventually). I booked an appointment with Melanie and showed her some pics of what I wanted plus talked with her throughout about how short im comfortable with for layers. I went from flat long hair to voluminous medium length hair and absolutely loved it. I thought i would end up crying at the end of the day because i was completely attached to my long locks, but Melanie did an awesome job and i love my new hair. I would definitely recommend Melanie, she’s really friendly too:)

My first time here and what should I say, it was amazing I mean I just loved it. Melanie she is amazing, she has magic hands. I’m in love with my hair cut. Thank you so much melanie for great hair cut and styling my hair.

I saw Emily for a cut and peekaboo purple highlights. She did an amazing job and let me know what she was doing throughout the process so I got exactly what I wanted. The staff were warm and welcoming. A huge plus for me was also the ease of scheduling online.

I am new to Norcal and wanted something drastic done. I was super nervous about my haircut because I’ve had a lot of really bad experiences, but she went above and beyond for me! She cut my hair to perfection and even made time to balayage a few strands. I love my new hair! She is fantastic :)

I went in today for balayage highlights. I went through Unilocal reviews for weeks until I decided to make my appointment here, and I do not regret it! Emily walked me through what she was going to do. The price wasn’t that bad. I honestly thought I was going to spend ~200+ on my hair but it was less than that! Definitely coming back in the future!

I went in as a new client. Having just moved from the east coast i needed a new stylist to repair my damaged hair. The salon is absolutely gorgeous and well kept. You are provided with your choice of tea, champagne, water or a mimosa!!! The stag was extremely nice and very well presented. Each stylist had recently had her hair colored by another stylist at the salon. Just gorgeous work. Emily was my stylist of the day. I left the salon feeling and looking like a celebrity. My service for the day was a wash blow dry and flat iron. I absolutely love it. I have already booked my next appointment !!! Just loved the atmosphere the people and the service

I visited this salon last night for the first time after finding them on Unilocal.It was AMAZING! I had Emily and she did a wonderful job cutting and styling my hair. She also explained everything she did so I could recreate it myself! She was very friendly and sweet and I really enjoyed my time here. I’ve already booked my future appointment!
The salon itself is very clean and modern, I would definitely recommend this salon!

I really have nothing negative to say about this Ascend Salon. The location was a little hidden but not hard to find. My boyfriend had recommended I come here for my next hair cut and I have to say, we’ve had trouble finding a good salon in Fremont so I took his recommendation very seriously. We booked a double appointment and was helped by Jessie. She was very friendly, conversational, and asked the appropriate questions before cutting my hair. The standard hair cut comes with shampoo/​conditioner, blow dry, and styling. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she gave me her recommendations based on my regular hair routine. She told me that is was important that she styled my hair using products that I would normally use, so that I could actually achieve the same look when I style it myself. I really appreciated this because a lot of times, stylists will go all out to make you look awesome and then you leave knowing your hair will never look that way until your next appointment. She introduced me to a few products from Redken that she was using for me, but she wasn’t at all pushy about selling me the products.
And yes, they do offer tea, coffee, mimosas, wine, and water. I think it’s pretty standard at most places now so you don’t have to go to an overprices salon for this type of service. It’s also very convenient to be able to make your appointments online. I made mine the day before and there were still slots available for the next day.
In terms of pricing, this place is as good as it gets. My boyfriend received a referral discount and I received a discount for coming in! I left completely in love with my cut and style, and happy that I didn’t just spend my paycheck on a haircut. Thank you Jessie!

I was in the market for a whole new do and a new stylist. It’s a huge decision so of course I turned to Unilocal.Ascend was on the top of the list with raving reviews and it just happened to be close by. It’s located in what looks like a transformed house with hair stations and the wash in a different room.
The hours are very flexible and they are open weekends. I had a early morning appointment with Brooke who is also the owner. I let her know I was thinking of chopping it all off, and she slowed me down and walked me through it. She gave me a great cut, and also ended up doing some color which I was always nervous about.
I loved the new do, and will definitely be coming back.
PS: they serve coffee, tea, and mimosas while you wait! How classy :)

First time at Ascend Salon today and I had a great experience. I had my hair cut by Elissa. She’s very nice and very sociable. She’s very knowledgable on hair and the products she uses. I would recommend getting a hair cut by her!
The salon is nice and clean. Professional appearance. I got promotional offers for future visits and a free blow out for being a first timer.
