Beware. if your just starting off and your a independent with no other means to finance you schooling you will run out of aid before you graduate. So you will be able to go to school for about 3 years and then your out of money. 50k in loans with no degree. Just a FYI before you sign up

I read some of the reviews and I can agree with most of you. Yes this is a profit school. Very expensive, I’m in the EET program and at one point I ran out of Funds, which they never said would happen. I have no one to help me financially, so my fate was unknown for 2 years. They don’t help you to find money. Only the federal loans an grants if that isn’t enough to cover the rest of tuition you’re on your own. Finally after 2 years when I got a cosigner, I decided to come back. Cause none of my credits would transfer anywhere else. So instead of all my initial cost going to waste. I decided to just suck it out and go back. It was a tough and decision I was and still am not happy about.
Once you’re in school and have classes make sure you have a job that is flexible cause they will tell you anything to sign you up. I was told I could work in the day and have class at night. That ship sailed I lost my job and had to go in to security cause that was the only thing I could find that had a 8 hour shift, which would allow me to have class in the day and work in the evening. Even tho I found an ideal work schedule they still scheduled classes at the dumbest times. 2pm-4:50pm. I start work at 4pm and end at 12am. So at this point I have to go to my boss and tell them I need to have a gap, so can I start at 5:30? Including travel from school to work. Luckily I have a great boss. For the classes and the education. I suggest, stick it out at a community college and then go to a 4 year, do it that way. Cause you don’t get anytime to learn. It’s mostly enough time to do your hw, discussion, and labs. If you want to learn the material you can’t have a job or life.
The professors are all great as far as knowledge but I don’t think any of them have a teaching degree. You have too many extremes. One professor will have his great lectures and concepts will be great. But the next class you get in your program will be with another professors and they will have a different way of doing things. So it’s not constant, you will see yourself trying to figure out what the current professor is talking about, something you already went over in your previous class with the last professor. They all have different ways of doing the same things. Makes it a bit confusing. They also all have accents which becomes a bit difficult. I feel like what ever profession you want to go into this school wouldn’t be for the person who is learning from scratch. If you know a good deal of what your major consists of then go here as a refresher and to get a Bachelors. Knowing what I know now I would not have came to DeVry. It is definitely not the school it used to be when I first started in 2010. Even in 2010 I would choose I community college then 4 year, if I could go back.

I will start this review by saying, I usually don’t buy into the doom and gloom of others, because typically their views are skewed by their own circumstances and perception.
The bottom line is yes DeVry and Keller are for profit schools that need students to remain in business.
Another post already mentioned this, but people are missing the fact that «What you put in is what you get out!» I completed a BSTM at DeVry Online and it was challenging with my work schedule.
The majority of my professors responded quickly to emails and most posted 3 – 5 times per week in all discussions.
These reviews are just ridiculous! I never wait for someone to get back to me I keep following up until I get what I want. Take responsibility of your own future people. If someone is rude, disrespectful, or out of line I tactfully let them know they’re out of line. Not get my feeling hurt and quit.
Since when did we ever receive goods for free, they cost something right? The cost of all education is constantly rising everywhere. You should receive excellent service for your money no argument there.
My niece started her freshman year a major university on a scholarship and we’ve faced the same issues. Administration were just plain rude and very unhelpful in explaining her benefits. The family had to come up with $ 1500 to cover a balance left over from housing and a meal plan that is mandatory or she couldn’t continue the second semester.
So, we can complain all day about different institutions and how horrible people are. In the end you need what these institutions have, which is a degree. As far as your degree being a paper weight from DeVry, that’s funny maybe I’m special because I’m making six figures. I consider myself very fortunate and blessed in that aspect but I received no handouts.
You will be surprised the number of people that used for profit schools to get their degree because of their careers. Until recently traditional universities didn’t even offer flexible or online classes. I wonder if it’s because they want some of that money too.
Food for thought: What if DeVry/​Keller required a SAT/​GMAT for entrance into their programs? Yes it would cut their profits, but it would also eliminate half of these silly reviews. The school serves its purpose, which to me was to make it more convenient for me to attend school while working. If it wasn’t challenging… well you don’t know what you don’t know! What you don’t know should worry you.
In closing, if I had an opportunity to attend a state college and work full-​time to support my family I would. Partly because of the cost, traditions, history, and lineage that comes along with century old institutions. The other aspect is the networking, but whose to say you can’t do that at DeVry or Keller.
One last thing, I read an ignorant review that financial aid reps get commission. That is such a load of garbage. Hey how about this, when you complain site your sources giving only proven facts. Then if you’re the reader do your own due diligence and don’t take the word of someone else. I was skeptical also, the biggest thing for me was the cost. If you hand me a book I can learn though, so a really strong teacher is just extra motivation. Get what you need somewhere. Oh and 50k isn’t a whole lot of money if you make a million+ in you lifetime. Just saying… Nuff said…

DeVry University in Fremont, CA is were I graduated. I would not recommend going to this college. The administration and staff there are not courtesy nor efficient. They don’t work with you and procrastinate on simple questions. I hate it!

I’m not even going to spend my time writing a long review about how terrible this place is when so many other people already have.
When I started there, I had only come across a few bad reviews because I hadn’t really looked. And the few that I had read, I was just hoping were just a few people who had a bad experience and wanted to complain, but that there were probably many more who had a great experience. I’m pretty sure now after my own experiences with them and now actually looking at all of these reviews all over the place that this place, bottom line, just cares about trying to get as much money as possible from you.

I don’t appreciate being hounded all the time asking if I want to come back for a worthless bachelors. If I wanted to come back, I would’ve called a long time ago.

Update on how my life has bin fucked by this school. My debt, has gone up to like over 40,000 bucks, i called before and asked what the original amount i was loaned. She said 18,000. W… T…F?! My mom has passed away like 2 months ago. She didn’t leave a will, but she said she wanted everything for her kids. Guess what, cus of my debt and bad credit. Nothing will be put in my name. None of the houses or properties, not even the one over my head. For the fear that the collectors will take my home away from me and leave me homeless on the street. So now it will be all under my brothers name. You can tell them how you have no money and your not making enough, they highly don’t give a fuck. Also sense they are private loans and student loans. NO ONE WILL HELP YOU!!! they are nearly starting programs to help students in debt. If they work i still don’t know. All i know is, I can’t get credit cards, loans, nothing. I feel that my bad credit is messing with me being able to find employment at good places, sense they do credit checks on people they tend to try and hire. All they see is that «bad credit= unreliable, lazy, stupid, untrustworthy, don’t hire this guy.» As well as when i turned 25 and became independent and im broke. I started to get FASFA money for school, the first time i finely qualified! I had it for half a semester and it stopped. I went to the financial aid department and then found out that I don’t qualify anymore because i have defaulted on student loans… So they basically denied me for being fucken broke and in debt. That makes no sense. Then I tried to get food stamps at one point cus im not making much money at all. I was denied cus if you go to school and have more than 5 units, you don’t qualify. The lady told me its because you have FASFA. I told her I don’t get FASFA. All they do is make an assumption that you do because minimum units to get FASFA is 6. So basically to get food stamps, I have to get no more than 2 classes a semester under 5 units, or stop going to school all together. Anyway, they don’t even give you the chance to prove your not getting it. All I do is ignore the 100’s of letters of bills I get in the mail. Because theres nothing els I can do. I don’t know how to manage my money to pay my bills when all i make is like 450 a month. All i can say is, they invent these loans and programs to keep you in debt. I feel like they have a 1inch leash on me. Bolted to the ground. I can’t do anything about it and thats exactly the way they want it. Don’t go to this school, and don’t recommend it to anyone. This place is a poison, that kills you as slow as life itself.

The good: I have a Bachelor’s and my Cisco certification that I set out to get.
The bad: Teacher quality is unbelievably poor. Online teachers were a roll of the dice, with maybe one in ten being quality. I had one good teacher while I was there, and he got promoted to a Dean’s position extremely quickly. Probably because he was one of the only ones who actually cared about his work and tried.
The ugly: I stopped attending classes on-​site due to what a waste of time the professors were. Gary Giomi was the most discouraging person I’ve ever worked with. On the first day of class, he opened up by saying «oh good, no women in the class so I don’t have to watch my mouth.» He followed up with a joke about how the most common question asked by DeVry graduates is «would you like fries with that» suggesting that the degree is worthless and it’ll get you a job at McDonalds. I had an 8 week course with him where he sat at the server rack attempting to install Server 2008, and every time he encountered a hiccup he would call the class off for the day. I’ve installed Server 08 in under an hour at home. Another time, the Dean came in to review Giomi’s class. Giomi «snapped» into real teacher mode, and actually asked questions for the first time out of the three classes I’d had with him. Once the Dean left, Giomi said something to the order of «I’m glad to be done with that BS, let’s get back to relaxing.»
Online professors are a roll of the dice as well. I had perhaps 4 – 5 total online teachers that were active teachers. The majority do not communicate, do not respond to emails, will not get on the phone with you, and only log in to their teacher portal once a week to grade stuff. And within that group of teachers, there are two kinds: one that give 100% if you write words down (literally anything will score 100%), and another kind who keeps your grade at a 92% all semester no matter how good your work is.
TLDR: You can get a degree. You will only learn the things that YOU motivate yourself to learn. Professors do not teach, they are grading robots except for the extreme minority.
If I was in a hiring position, and saw DeVry as someone’s school, I’d ask them «What did you think of DeVry?» and if they told me it was quality, I’d know they were lying. If they told me «Not only did I have to struggle to learn the course materials, I also had to deal with terrible administration and teachers who did everything in their power to avoid helping you.» I’d believe them.
Everyone that leaves a negative review is telling the truth. Nobody at DeVry responds to emails or phone calls. Professors aren’t held to any quality standards.

Why I love DeVry! I went to school here for business for two years but I realized it wasn’t something for me. I decided to take on a challenge and continued my education in biomedical engineering. It was the best decision I made. I got a job right after graduation with the help of DeVry’s job placement starting with the average of 60k a year at a very reputable company with full benefits. I can see why some people may give this school bad reviews but that’s because at this school you really have to work on your own — they really prepare you with tasks and projects for the future. Senior projects were extremely difficult, but it was very worth it and the lesson was taught.

I just graduated from DeVry in February with my Business degree and I am very happy with the degree and the education i received. The format and ability to take classes online or onsite as well as evening classes really supported my full time job and full time family. Yes private school is expensive, but in all truth, DeVry University is only «expensive» if you dont finish and if you go part time the whole way. It’s an investment and if you dont see your education that way then you will never understand the debt you put yourself in to be there. It is more valuable than any car or house in my opinion. I stand behind this school 100%, and it is so sad when I see the complaints and these are from people who ended up in tons of debt because they had to borrow private loans… from people who may have been burned due to their own inabiltiy to communicate. The staff at DeVry Fremont was exceptional to me and those i knew the whole way, yes they got busy and didnt answer my calls sometimes too, but it’s a business and if you go into the office, they are always willing to see you and help you. I never found that at my community college!
I would say the entire experience was 5 stars, I think being able to be focused and determined to graduate no matter what it took was one factor on my satisfaction… you can be in and out in 2.5 years if your serious and you dont fail out and withdrawal from classes. You put forth the strong willed effort and you will see the benefits. I recommend this school to everyone I know, especially those who are struggling to find a job in the market today and taking forever to get their degrees from the state schools, when all i hear is how hard it is to get into a class they NEED. How they may be there now another year because the classes are full, i never had that expeience at DeVry, the teachers knew my name and i could call them anytime to ask for help if needed.
I am a proud DeVry Graduate and if your serious about school and want to finish quick, this is the place!!!

This is a horrible school as a whole! IF, and only IF anyone ever replies to emails or voicemails, they will avoid you if you have ANY form of issue. They care only for the money and not for the students. They are LOADED with hidden fees, and not the nickel and dime type, we’re talking hundreds and thousands. The worst part is a degree from them is worth less than the paper it’s written on, and that’s IF they even send it to you.
Bottom line is, trust the reviews, I’m not the only one, and Unilocal isn’t the only review site saying the same things about this horrible «school». Try a different school that might actually be worth something.

I’m graduating from DeVry in CIS (WebDev) currently and I think that it’s prety good university. There are some good Professors like T. Lam, Pamela Price.

This review is expense related– stuff I think people should really, really be aware about before thinking of going here.
1.I attended half a semester here (received A’s in both my classes.)
2. $ 580 per unit when I attended. Decide for yourself if that’s reasonable. Up to now, I’m in debt 5k for attending half a semester there.
3. Be very aware, there are hidden fees that aren’t included in the amount for your degree. It will cost $ 150-​$ 200 minimum for books, equipment, and whatever they feel like charging, etc. per semester.
4. If I knew how much it was going to ~actually~ cost to attend here, I would have ran the heck back to community college without accruing a bunch of debt.
The recruiter basically told me what I wanted to hear. I would be able to receive a huge grant (he wasn’t specific about it when I’d asked) but that fell through and I ended up having to take out a loan. Thinking about it now, I feel this was just a lure to get me in, even though I’d decided to attend before that.
My recruiter was very kind, helpful, and very often kept in contact with me, that is until I decided to change my degree– this probably had to with me having to change to a different Devry campus. I’m not sure about the internal workings of the school or how these recruiters get paid, but I’m thinking he probably would have lost me as a form of income if I were no longer at the campus he worked at.
He sounded very disappointed over the phone and asked if I was making the right decision, but I’d made up my mind. Beforehand, he’d always be available for a talk,(I had lots of questions) but after that, it was a huge pain in the ass to get in touch with him. it was like he just dropped off the face of the planet.
TL;DR: Go to a community college and spend a fraction of what this or other proprietary schools charge. You can receive grants, BOG waiver, EOPS, and other financial aid to pay for school. Lots of financial aid options, and ones you don’t have to pay back! I even get leftover money to buy some freakin clothes for school.

Why does DeVry always force the students to submit their class
appraisals before the class is finished? Students will hardly
dare to tell the truth about a poor class. Most reputable schools
do appraisals either apart from the teacher’s review or after the

I noticed many companies wouldn’t consider the people who graduated from Devry/​Keller. Even their own HR in Devry, they only hire/​promote the internal. So, don’t try to waste your time apply any of the positions in Devry, even you graduated from Devry/​Keller.

This is the WORST college I have ever worked with in my life.
My husband decided to join this college on the post ⁹⁄₁₁ GI Bill. First off, he was told wrong information regarding enrollment which left us not receiving money due to us by the govt (about $ 4000 worth) because no one knew what they were talking about. No one from the financial aid/​enrollment office EVER answer their phones, and my husband called daily for a week until he finally got a hold of someone there.
Don’t waste your time, and especially your effort on this school. You would think they would be much more eager to please their students, being that their per unit cost is over $ 500.

I went to this school, and about half or ¾ of the way, I felt somewhat regretful.
One thing is, you’re only going to find a few, good professors or teachers that respect and will help you (well, during my time from 03 – 06) and the rest. well they suck because most of them are either asian or from the middle east with the heaviest accents you can’t understand, therefore you’re going to have to be a good student and have the book teach you, and maybe take some tutoring.
SPEAKING. of tutoring. I have a complaint. during my troubles with the C++ class, and that this Arab teacher taught sometimes that I cannot understand that I might have to drop, I decided to take up some tutoring. C++ is the strongest, yet fucking complicated computer language there is. Some tutors were able to help, but this one guy, filipino with the flag tattoo, as he was trying to help me out and with the dumb responses that I gave on working or making an algorithm, I can tell he was laughing. He didn’t laugh in my face but he was looking away from me and at another tutor and had a smirk. Well, I stayed as much as I can but gave up and decided to go back to another professor which I was a student at before, to get some help. So I said fuck the tutoring room. that was just disrespectful.
And speaking of the major, CIS, I didn’t pick that major. The recruiter did. I originally had Business Information Systems in Health Management. He suggested CIS instead, which is all fuckin computers.
The reason I went to DeVry, because of certain people that gone there are now successful and so on, but those certain people continued for a masters, somewhere else. And I wanted a Bachelors quick, in 3 years or less.
Unfortunately, I started in 2003, and left 2008 with my degree, finished the classes at DeVry Center, and online.
I wanted to find a hot asian/​filipino girl to be my girlfriend or girlfriend for one night but didn’t. they were all taken, plus I was out of shape that time. More opportunities at a forreal university/​college.
Also, I think the scheduling and arrangment of the professors teaching this class and that. is all fucked up.
There was this class, Microsoft Excel and Access… there is no real fucking teacher or whomever that can teach it. I just don’t under fucking stand. We had to have an IT repairlady teach the class. What kind of bull shit is that?
Also, some teachers are too good, being too lenient. But you do pass with at least a B+.
And what I read mostly online about DeVry, is that its a ripoff and a scam, on dreaded troll infested craigslist forums, and
. Sadly, some of my friends, say its a ripoff. I see many many video spoofs and many troll comments on a youtube video that DeVry is just plain scam.
The thing is, high school students still go, but find out about this problem later, or ignore it.
Last thing is, I haven’t gone out and searched using my degree yet. Im scared of todays economy and that you’re better off staying with the job you had for the longest from what I hear. I don’t know if that’ true.
And speaking of job searching, career services department is a waste of space. they only look using the same damn websites and forums you would use to look for a job.
So in conclusion, I really don’t know and I’m not here to tell you if this school is good or not or to recommend or not recommend. The thing is, if this were a forreal diploma mill, as many trolls from forums call DeVry, I’d think there would be legal action to close down the school, or something. So, probably this school can be good in some ways. And students I gone with, were already doing internships or co-​op programs.
What could be cool, is they have a nearby dorm building. but again, expensive.
For the other one star review on here, I would agree and yes the debt can be tremendous. If you have to go to this school, I’d use the «refund money» towards the next semester; in other words just go to your financial aid dept to turn it in. Try not to use it. I was in between jobs and living in a high rent apartment, and had to work full time and go part-​time at Devry, so I had to use it.
So for last words, DeVry «University», should just lose the University part and just be considered an institute.

So here we are again. I just graduated from my BSTM degree yesterday, June 19^th. There was a very well-​done ceremony in Cerritos, CA that I was able to attend (as an online student, you can attend any of the campus ceremonies. I chose Cerritos because my family was in SoCal, so it was easier for me to go there then to have them all come up here.)
So — 9 months later, has my opinion changed? No — not really. It’s still a great school. In fact, sitting at the graduation ceremony I was thinking about a lot of things and I’d like to share them here.
The world has changed — for sure — I spent 3 years at Sonoma State University and had 30 credits to show for my time there. Why? Because the school had nothing I was interested in doing. The only computer programs they had were learning programming. Yet somehow I was pressured to go and just «get a degree» in History because I had to go through the whole process.
To the rest of the world — yes, all computers are is programming. To those of us in the industry — programming is just a small subset of an overall grander career path. You don’t learn systems management, administration, information security and all that from those kinds of schools. You really need a fast-​paced and evolving type of university that can do that for you — and is willing to employ people in their field with different circumstances and often other full or part time jobs due to the fact that in order to effectively teach what they are teaching, they need to be current on trends and in the industry.
I’ll be blunt — DeVry isn’t as romantic as a well-​established school. It doesn’t have the old history, the classical architecture, and the odd buildings with crazy teacher offices on them. It’s a bit more modern, sterilized, and money oriented. And honestly, to me, that’s slightly sad. There is something intriguing about the pursuit for education framed in old tradition and all the experiences one’s parents had.
However, the world has changed, and with it this new breed of school comes about. It’s not cheap. It’s not romantic. But it prepares you for life. It really does.
My suggestion to DeVry is to try and capture that romanticism again — every single time I told my family members about this school, they either laughed or didn’t think it was a real degree. «Technical Management? How do you get a degree in that? Isn’t DeVry that weird game programming school?»
I think the image needs to be improved and profit needs to be looked at in terms of the high quality of the programs, not how many students can be sucked in with intriguing ads both on the internet and TV. I think the university needs some more class and appeal, ultimately taking itself a lot more serious than it does now.
For a lot of people out there — yes, DeVry is a good school and they churn out graduates you’d hire in a heartbeat, but it needs to separate itself from the pack. Get out of the same classification that University of Phoenix, ITT Tech, etc. are in. The rumors of «students can never fail because they pay a lot of money» need to be completely axed. Failure rates need to be highlighted, and they need to go head to head with the established UC’s and CSU systems, especially here in California.
