Dumbarton Bridge Toll Plaza

I drive through this bridge daily, from and to work /​home. I was surprised today that one of the toll clerks working in station #3; a husky Asian middle age man, at around 9:30 AM @ 9÷2÷2015 came off extremely and un-​necessarily rude.
I had my cash counted and ready in my center console. Once it was my turn to pay, I grabbed my cash, re-​counted it and gave it to the clerk with a tight grip to make sure that one of the dollars doesn’t slip off my hand. The toll clerk shook his head, re-​counted my money which I brushed off and didn’t mind. Then he gave me an intimidating look and said to me, «This is how you should give your money next time». While slapping /​clapping his left hand to his right hand while holding my toll cash paid. HOW IMPOLITE CAN YOU BE! I was in shock and irritated, I never experienced that type of customer service nor reaction from any toll clerk from Bay Bridge, Golden Gate and etc.
I don’t mind if I am not greeted, I can careless… all I care about is paying the exact amount of toll and get to my destination ASAP! May be it was the big tattoo I have on my left wrist and the fact that I am a woman that gave him a bad perception of myself and felt like he can give me his two cents on how I should pay my toll… Well Mr. Toll Clerk Guy, next time I see you I am going to act like nothing happened and let karma bite your tongue and do it’s course! To prevent this from happening again, this experience made me realize to get my very own Fastrak!

Cashiers in the Dumbarton toll plaza are too slow in giving change. They count their money while I wait to give my payment. One of the cashier there who is Asian-​chubby guy doesn’t extend his arm to get money from the driver and likewise to give change. I have to extend my arm to reach the money to him. He’s too lazy to reach his arm to the driver.

We ALWAYS called this bridge the «Swiss Cheese» bridge when I was little! But it’s the way to cut thru & get to Sacramento.

horrible !! every saturday they only have two open paying toll booths !! on a saturday !! when allot of people are off and need to use the bride !! this is ridicules !! don’t come this way on a sat !!

OK, I have it easy because I’m usually going over the bridge before 6:00 am, so I miss the traffic, but Fastrak is the way to go. The dedicated lane is on the left (I hate when you get to the front and find out you’re on the wrong side), and it splits into two going through the plaza. Far left is the carpool lane (5−10÷3−7 M-​F), but you can usually use it off hours w/​Fastrak since they don’t have the bar down.
Sorry — I can’t remember the last time I went through with a toll taker, so I can’t comment on them.

The toll plaza is different day to day and depending on what time you are going through there. I know the earlier it is the less toll takers they have so it can get a bit backed up if you don’t have fast track and you are paying cash.
Also later in the mornings between 7:30 — 8:30 it can get get really backed up sometimes down 84 all the way to Decoto Road. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays in my opinion are the least busiest of days during the way.
You really just have to time it right or get a fast track if you don’t want to be waiting at the toll plaza. Some of the toll takers are fatter than others and that’s all I have to say about that.

Efficient bridge. Traffic isn’t ‘too’ horrible. The marsh swamp really stinks so turn up your window for 10 miles.

I had to drive to Palo Alto, several times lately, so instead of taking a 880 freeway to 237 and to 101, which was kind of getting me lost while driving even though I was using my GPS phone navigation, and it took longer.
I decided to just go ahead and spend a little extra just so that I could take the Dumbarton bridge. It made it so much easier to drive to the Stanford shopping center in time. The people at the toll booths on this bridge are very friendly and nice and were wishing me happy holidays and a great day each time, they were cheerful.

Ive never been over this bridge. I’m admitting it now. Ive never had a reason to come over here. But recently due to work and my husband having to visit Stanford Hospital on multiple occasions its been a regular thing.
I was surprised at how big the toll plaza is. We fortunately have missed rush hour here so I cant say if its bad or good. I don’t have FastTrak either so the cash lanes aren’t that bad either.
The one thing I found was that you have to have Fastrak to even go through the Car Pool lane. Good thing I just stopped and paid the $ 5. Otherwise Id have a lovely ticket in my mailbox.
Its nicer than I thought. Much bigger than I thought too.

Yes its service without a smile! Lets all love our Union job where we are in customer service and can ignore our customers. YAY! But honestly its all in who you get I suppose.
Its the benefits baby! Ohhhhh yeah! Gotta love the backup around this Toll Plaza when headed westbound in the mornings.
Pro Tip: Get fasttrack and save a few minute.
Hopefully these guys dont raise the cost again since they are not earning enough. You would think that they would drop the price and thus attract more customers! Apparently not.
None the less enjoy the lovely workers here as well as the marshlands on either side of the plaza at the edge of the bay.
