Fremont Unified School District

Staff @ the Fremont unified school district are not very friendly. When I was enrolling my child for kindergarten I had asked the lady if this was a good school district and her response was, «Well there’s a lot of people moving here.» (which to me was a sarcastic response) I was just looking for a simple yes or no answer as a concerned parent. And after calling the district again after finding out our child’s homeschool would be going into a lottery system. I was just simply stating that it wasn’t fair as we registered early and I get a response of, «well we would be here all day trying to figure out which students go where.» Again with the sarcasm. Attitude is not needed.

Don’t know how a school can be rated highly. Kindergarten i either 8:30−11am or 11:30 — 2:30pm. WTH? This is suppose to be top rated school district? Feel like I wasted $ to live here.
Considering sending kid to private kindergarten for a year, then come back when they offer real full-​day schedule…

Im a graduate from this district and have loved every minute of it. But now my son is in Kindergarten and I have to say my first experience has been awful! He started at Mission San Jose Elementary and in the first week the teacher told me he was going to have to be held back. THE FIRST WEEK! And then she let him walk off campus TWICE IN THE FIRST MONTH!!! That teacher is probably the worst teacher i ever met. She ruined my experience as a first time kindergarten mom! Im just glad the school was willing to work with me on transferring him to Azevada. And I have to say 5 stars to Ms. Temores who has worked wonders with him! She is super sweet and I can tell she is really trying to help him. He is the youngest in the class since his birthday is the cutoff date. I wish I could have had this experience in the beginning.

This lady who’s taking care of the appointment table and sign in for enrollment is so so so rude.

I haven’t even been to the district office, nor do I know where it is. However, FUSD is a good school district for Fremont residents who have children to rely on.

As a graduate of Fremont Unified School District, having the pleasure of attending Forest Park Elementary for Kindergarten, Ardenwood Elementary for grades 1^st thru 6^th, Thornton Junior High for middle school and finally American High School for High School, it has been one heck of a long ride.
Ardenwood Elementary, one of the largest Elementary School’s in the district, along with Forest Park Elementary. Ardenwood was named a California Distinguished School in 2010. The school had an experienced principal, Mrs. Rugg, who has been a proud Dragon for 18 years, but sadly just recently retired. The school also has an experienced faculty and very, involved and supportive parents. Even though many of the previous teachers when I attended Ardenwood retired, Ardenwood is still a great school!
The Ardenwood PTSA hosts various different events throughout the school year such as a Spooktacular Halloween Carnival, Dragon Dash (Run-​A-​Thon to Raise Money), Winter Festival, Movie Night, Red Ribbon Week, Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week and more!
The students, staff, teachers, parents, and community members all work together to show that it’s the best elementary school in the district and that «WE LOVE ARDENWOOD ELEMENTARY!». Go Dragons!
Thornton Junior High School, is one of the Junior High School’s in the district and was the one I attended. It was alright, the campus really needs a make over though. It’s like ugly and the buildings are like all over the place and not close to each other. When I was there, the Principal was Ms. Hamilton and the VP was Mr,. Hicks. although, now Mr. Hicks is the Principal, Hamilton is finally gone!!! she was mean, and I’m glad she’s gone even though I don’t even attend Thornton anymore. The teachers are alright, some are extremely easy and some are extremely difficult. Go Thunderbolts!!!
Now, American High School, is a whole different story LOL. Many things have changed throughout American, between multiple different Principals, Administrators, Teachers, and Staff. The school itself is pretty good, with many good teachers and of course some bad ones, haha. It’s a great school to send your child. Most people praise about Mission San Jose high School but really… just send them to American and they’ll do just the same lol.

Overall, the Fremont Unified School District is pretty good with multiple well known schools.

When I stopped by the district office recently for training, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease and efficiency of the sign in process, the friendliness/​helpfulness I was received with by the HR staff and the time saved by the expedited processes in place.
I really appreciate the staff for making my trip a breeze! Now instead of dreading going to the district, I really look forward to it!

THIS IS THE BEST SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE U.S. MSJHS is rated the top school in the country. Schools get money from the improvement of the test scores. These schools are already at the top of their scores, so our schools look shabby.

The reality is that this school district isn’t that bad. It’s not particularly good either. What makes it stand out are the students and their parents.
They’ve created a self fulfilling prophecy. Parents choose to come to this district because of the higher API scores and better reputation. (Look at the property prices for houses that are within the Weibel, Hopkins, MSJHS) Parents who are willing to do that are willing to shell out for tutors, extracurriculars and to spend late nights to make sure that their child does well. It doesn’t matter how badly the school prepares them, all that extra support almost guarantees the good standardized test scores which bolster that schools reputation.
A note for parents, fight tooth and nail to get your kids into honors and GATE classes. It’s a divide that separates your children from a good education and a state-​mandated minimum. The justification is that if you cared more, your kid would be in an honors class. And as such, there is more effort by the administration to provide a decent education to the honors children lest they face the wrath of an angry parent.
My major gripe is with the complaints about overcrowding and underfunding. If you were to look up the salaries of these teachers and administrators, this becomes one massive joke. We could easily freeze these already ridiculously high salaries and hire a few more teachers but then the teachers would be up in arms, protesting on the local news.

I could go on for hours about the school district, the teachers’ union and tenure (not just for professors!!), but in the end they’re marginally better than the alternative.

As a parent with two children in FUSD, I am fortunate that I am surrounded by parents with the same mindset to help our children excel. That is the real reason why FUSD has high test scores. Between parent and supplemental after school education, and parent financial support, FUSD cannot take all the credit. Also, having experienced trying to help FUSD in fundraising and cost saving solutions, I can tell you the employees at FUSD really don’t care. They would rather feel entitled and not do anything outside their job description. Don’t depend on the teachers and administrators to really support your children. They keep saying they are but their actions say otherwise. This is the same school district that has paid for their Superintendent’s lodging and raising this position’s salary over the years from 5−40% each year. And they asked parents to pass Measure K which passed $ 3.4 million. Where is the money going to? Salaries or our children? If you do move here to Fremont, make sure to live among other parents willing to work hard for your children and your school. That is the only way FUSD will hear you and elicit any positive change for your children and your school.

I know I’m only attending high school right now. But this district is the worst district ever! They won’t help the schools with many various problems, fired all the good teachers who actually teach and don’t give anything for the school’s sports. Favoring MSJHS isn’t a great idea please! What about Kennedy or American or Washington, these are the ones you are avoiding! God help us all try to get some help from the district when only the students and parents are doing something.

On paper the School District looks pretty good — high test scores especially in the Mission District — but the reality is that the schools are underfunded compared to other districts like Pleasanton. The reason it scores so high is the demographics in Fremont — there are some low income schools but not many. Schools in Hayward and Oakland would be happy with the test scores of Fremont’s underachievers. The high income areas have parents that value education — they are willing to pay for tutoring, extracurricular activities, and are more likely to have 2 college-​educated parents in the home. Mission San Jose High School is good not because of its overcrowded, outdated facilities, its average teaching staff or its meager counseling staff; it’s because of the families who support their kids. Not a good environment for non-​academic students but at least you graduate Mission with good basic academic skills and the awareness that working hard does pay off.

Uhh. no dear reviewer, kennedy is not, and neither is American High. The jewel of the district is Washington High, and maybe MSJHS. Kennedy has the lowest API scores in the district in terms of HS.
I hate FUSD… they repeatedly shortchange the teachers and thus inconvenience students. Every single year they over-​fill class rooms to the point where some students are sharing tiny desks, and even sitting at the teacher’s desk (this is in high schools). The teachers and parents complain, then students are hastily reshuffled and it totally disrupts the start of the new year. This happens every school year… when is the district gonna learn that they can’t get away with 46+ students in an honors english class? The district tries this stint each year and thinks they can get away with paying teachers less by filling as many students as they can in a class so the teacher doesn’t have to get paid for more than four periods.

Weibel elementary school — the district’s highest-​ranking elementary school in the state, and one of the better schools in the Western US.
American High is one of the best high-​schools in the state, and in WUS standings. Kennedy is also pretty high in the standings too.
