Fremont Video

They are not allowing any new customers to rent now, because they are closing at the end of the month! It’s the last of the video rental shops (in Fremont, at least,) and will soon go the way of Blockbuster and so many others. At present, you can purchase their DVDs 3 for $ 10, which I did last night. So go while you can — Fremont Video is the last of a nearly extinct breed. Perhaps the government should pitch in and subsidize it as a sort of museum to the 1990’s.

Love this little gem of a video store! Takes me back to the Kevin Smith days of Clerks! The old carpet, the stacks of racks with DVD covers with the movie behind the case. The back room for adults only.. It’s got it all! Plus they are super friendly and have all the good flicks. I almost don’t want to post this review in fear you’ll go and take all the movies I want. They also sell snack just as coke products, popcorn and other movie munchies. Give the local business your business. Go check it out and while you’re there, a movie too.

So I know that the days of brick and mortar video stores are limited but it really is cool stepping into one again. The store is small and quaint but had a very large collection of movies. I’m pretty sure you will find something you will like! The girl at the front counter was super nice and helped me with my purchase. I really do hope that they stay around for a while. Mom and pop shops like this make a town/​city more interesting and I hope this one in particular stays around.

Jst became a member and they didn’t ask for my ssn they were friendly and had new releases not on redbox I don’t know why other ppl had bad reviews for this place but it is worth becoming a member considering its one of the few remaining placed to rent movies

Located here in the Pegasus Shopping Center is Fremont Video. It’s a store where you can rent various DVD’s at a price.
Although I haven’t been here in a quite a while because of new Red Box DVD Kiosks that are popping up everywhere nowadays in grocery stores, 7-Eleven’s, Walmart and more. There’s actually a Red Box DVD Kiosk in the neighboring Charter Square Shopping Center, inside the Lucky Supermarket.
I’ve been here many times when they used to be at their old location, a few doors down. Until recently, they down sized and moved into a smaller location. The one thing that was weird, was that upon registration for a Membership Card, they required your Social Security Number, I’m not sure why they needed that but now they no longer require it, which is good. Honestly, I don’t know many who would be comfortable giving out their Social Security Number to be able to rent movies…
Don’t really remember what the price was to rent a movie back when I used to go here but it was at least 3 – 4 dollars, I believe.
Not sure about the new location, but at the old location, when you walk in they had a popcorn machine that made popcorn. I thought that was a little weird, because where here to rent movies, and go not like where gonna stay and watch a movie here lol.
Customer Service: The guy who worked there was nice, nothing wrong with him, service has always been fine. No complaints there.
Parking: It’s a really small parking lot, but it gets the job down. You shouldn’t really have a problem with parking, as long as it’s not during the busy times.
Overall, 3 stars.

One of the last video stores standing. Gotta love this place. They get all the new releases (six weeks before Redbox/​Netflix) and have good prices.

So cool to finally find a video store where I can get new releases! The guy at the front desk is really nice and friendly. True they don’t have video’s, only dvd’s, but I guess most people have DVD players — or not?
In any case, if you’re looking for a dvd to watch and are tired of waiting for redbox to get it, then stop by over here. They offer two new releases for $ 4.70. true it’s not cheaper than redbox, but it’s definitely a different feel to walk into a video store vs standing in front of a box.

After passing by this place a couple of times my bf and I decided to go in and take a look. Its a small place but had new releases and copies available for rental. The staff working the counter was friendly and helpful. Best thing is the place was not packed with a huge line and they close late 12:00 a.m. :)

I went into Fremont Video and decided not to become a member for 2 reasons. First, they asked for my Social Security number when they created the account. I am very protective of my SSN, and do not want to give it to a video store. Secondly, while I was waiting, I looked around the store, and I couldn’t find anything! I generally look for a video by genre, depending on the mood I am in. I’d like to go to an «action» section or a «documentary» section. Such categorization does not exist in this store. Instead, all movies are sorted by the first letter of their title. All A’s are lumped together, in no particular order, so even if you want a specific title, you still need to look through all other movies that begin with that letter. You can’t look through all movies of a particular type, either. I spent 20 minutes in the store and couldn’t find what I was looking for, and was unwilling to go through this every time I go to a video store.

This place is all DVDs. If you aren’t looking for a new release, then they have a fairly poor selection. Not to mention they don’t categorize them unless they are tv shows or animation. They are all just lopped together in a sort of alphabetical order. For instance all of the H’s may be together in the same shelves, but the order ends there.
The one good thing about this place is the rentals are rent one get one free all of the time. Plus they have adult DVDs in the back if you’re into that sort of thing.
Going into this place really makes me miss Kohne’s Video. I get a tear in my eye every time I think about that place going out of business and the death of video stores in general.

For those of you familiar with Time Video in Union City, this is actually the new store of their old owners. You’ll remember Yelin, the friendly staffer who used to work at Time Video.
This new video rental place is the better of the bunch, and not just because I trust its owners and staff. Its size reflects its booming business, and they always, ALWAYS have the new releases on stock! Much more personable than Blockbuster, the store never gets too crowded and the staff is really nice! FV has a daily deal of rent one, get one free. and on some days, you get an even better deal-​I-​O!
