H&J Landscaping Services

We got 3 quotes from different contractors, all came in at about the same price range. We picked John (owner of H&J Landscaping) because his schedule was the most flexible. I got to be honest, it was not the easiest to communicate with John, mainly because I don’t speak any Vietnamese. But we got over that with the help of Google translate and a bit of patience. The project was planned to be done in 2 weeks, but the delay in materials caused the actual project time to be 4 weeks. Given this was a rather small project and I didn’t need to closely supervise John personally, I think the time frame was acceptable. Just so you know, our project got turned down by several other contractors because it was too small for them. So like I said, flexibility in a small project like mine is important. So I didn’t mind a little bit of delay that was out of John’s control anyway.
Overall the trex deck turned out really nice as you can see in the picture. John was very careful in making sure the foundation was secure and level. I asked John to add a little bit of a paved stone area to help with the transition from the yard gate to the deck. the paved stone turned out to be amazingly lovely.
I knew that John’s expertise is stamp concrete work, but I am glad that I hired him to work on the deck and paved stone as he proved to be good at it too. I will recommend him to my friends.

After weeks of searching for a landscaping company for the soon to be mother in law– I decided to hire H&J Landscaping Services.
I had made appointments with 5 landscapers in the area and chose John because of his reasonable prices and more importantly his experience. He described in detail how things will be done, when and if there was going to be anything out of the norm going on and when.
My project was to get some artificial turf and the soon to be in-​law needed a new concrete driveway as well. John had quoted that he could finish the project in less than 3 weeks. He made it darn close to the deadline– and I’m a stickler for doing what you say and saying what you do. Good communication through the project, even on days that I wan’t there to oversee things.
These guys delivered on the both parts of the job and I was pleased by the outcome. Will hire them for a few other projects since god knows there is always stuff to be done. Actually his Unilocal portfolio was the one that sold me on this, so look for some pictures soon!

What a joke of a «business.» I read the other reviews about John’s unprofessionalism but decided to give him a shot anyways and boy was I wrong.
I called John at 10am for an estimate on my yard. He said he is available and would come by at 7pm to look at the yard and give an estimate. At 5 30 I called again to confirm because of the negative reviews I read on this site. John answered and said yes I will see you at 7pm.
7 20pm comes around and I’m expecting him to bail and be unprofessional like all these other reviews say. I call him at 7 30 and several times after that with NO ANSWER. I leave a voicemail and of course he does call me back or show up.
John you are a joke of a business and deserve the lowest star possible. You don’t even have the courage to tell your clients about promises you cannot keep.
DO NOT give business to these guys. If they can’t even call you to cancel and stand you up imagine what they will do with your yard.
What a embarrassment. I am glad you did not show up because you do not deserve my hard earned money and hopefully no one reading this review will give you theirs either.

Set a time to meet with John for a quote and he never showed up, I called and left a voicemail and heard nothing back. I just think that is unreliable and unprofessional. We took time out of our weekend to be home and wait for his visit and to not call or show up is extremely unprofessional.

I have called H&J Landscaping last week and this week. They promise on their vm to get back to you within a day. That did not happen and I can only rate them for poor customer service.

We recently got a complete overhaul of our backyard done from H&J landscaping. The work mainly involved stamped concrete, new retaining wall, planting new trees. My family was extremely impressed with the professionalism and the quality of work.
John is extremely easy to work with. He plans the work meticulously and delivers as promised.

John and his team did great work for a fraction of the price of most landscape contractors. There were a few minor mis communications but not enough for me to give it a poor grade or even subtract a star. When you factor in that you will probably pay far less than what a general contractor that pays other workers to do the job will charge you, any minor questions are just that, minor.
The work was done great. The concrete slopes away from the property, and the drain system he added ties into the downspout and runs to the front of the house. The finish was excellent and the work was done in a timely manner. Any questions during the process I just reached out to the business line and Alex did a great job in getting them answered. During the process if you have questions and have a hard time reaching John just call the main number and speak to Alex and your questions will be answered. John gets real busy but his communication can improve but again call the main number and you will get answers. I rate it a 4.5÷5 but since there are no half stars the 4.5 rounds up to ⁵⁄₅

We made an appointment for H&J to come over to estimate the work. I took off from work early that day and waited and waited. They called 15 mins after the agreed time to tell me that they couldn’t make it and want to come over the day after. Like the good’ol proverbial… «Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me». I wasn’t going to be a fool…

We hired John to do the stamped concrete in our back yard. His price was cheaper that any of the bids that came in and I was a bit concerned about that in the beginning because thought that there would be corners cut while doing the job. John came out the day he said we could start but only brought 1 guy to do a all the breaking up of the concrete. Next day at no surprise his 1 helper called in sick so not much got done that day. After pushing John to finish the job in the time that he promised he finally stepped it up and started getting things done. Concrete pour day was a bit of a mess because John wanted to put his pattern that he loves on the concrete. We didn’t want and it came out ugly because the lines were not measured correctly. He apologized for the mistake but damage was done we would have to live with it. Stamping pattern was not consistent and looks a bit fake. After job was done John requested more money than he quoted but to be fair I met him half way. Always a good reminder to get everything down in writing because you may have the same problem. Clean up wasn’t very good. They left a mess all around the house and told me that he would come back to take out the wood borders and he never did. He told us that we had to seal the concrete but couldn’t tell us where to get the sealer or how to get to the place to buy it. After many attempts to call him after he never returned my call on questions about sealing the concrete. YOU really truly get what you pay for. Get a contract before you start work with him. I seen pictures and read all the reviews so not sure why we got such bad service. :(

John & his landscaping crew was a pleasure to work with. We wanted to install a new driveway pavers and walkway. We got a few estimates from different landscaping contractors but chose H&J Landscaping Services we enjoyed their previous work. John showed us example pictures of driveways he has done before and my partner was impressed. We were glad that we chose John! They did a great job on our driveway pavers and walkway and we were very impressed. Many of my family and friends were very impressed. I would highly recommend John and his crew and would hire them again if I want to do other landscaping work (patio, lawn or maybe a deck in the backyard).

My dad contacted h&j landscaping services to do some work on our backyard. John called me back a few hours to setup a free estimation. The estimation was quick and only took 15 minutes, in which john gave a reasonable quote for a new patio area and some retaining walls. We were planning to do some concrete or paver work too but it did not fit our budget.
Pros: john and his team work very diligently and clean up after themselves ever day. Any concerns that we had was well received. The job was done quick we didn’t really notice them.
Cons: the price is not the lowest that we got a quote on, but the other landscapers did not any license so we couldn’t trust them. Also their communication can be a little better.
Overall I give them 5 stars, my parents really like what they have done and we would recommend them to anyone.

John is a great landscaper and a pleasure working with. I needed some landscaping work done in both my front and back yard. John quoted me an reasonable price and completion time for a retaining wall and pavers installation. He and his crew was always working hard and completed the job on time while always cleaning up after every work day. I highly recommend H&J Landscaping services for any landscaping work and will sure to hire them again (since I would like a pond or waterfall & patio in the future).

We hired H&J Landscaping for a complete overhaul of our backyard. John and his crew were very kind and professional.
John came out for the free estimate and we talked about how we wanted the backyard to look and he totally got it.
The project involved cleaning out the backyard, building a small deck, a paver patio and laying new sod. It all came out perfect! (I’ll post some pictures soon)
We now have a great space to enjoy year-​round.
**The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars, it’s because I’m still waiting for a few patches of grass to came to life ;)

John was very friendly and professional. I hired him for a yard cleanup and while he was working, he noticed a leaky sprinkler. He offered to fix it for a reasonable fee. He worked quickly and did a great job. Would hire him again.

I had John come out and fix two of our lawn sprinklers. He returned my call the same day and gave us a quote the next day. The work was done quickly and professionally. I had noticed flooding and dry spots in other areas on our lawn. I thought maybe it was a broken pipe. Turned out it was just a couple of sprinkler heads. John did the fix at the quoted price and now our lawn should look green again! I would definitely call him again if I had any other gardening needs.
