Ireland Engineering

We found out last year that we had big problems with our foundation and needed to do major repair work. That was stressful news, and we were thrown into the world of soils engineers and structural engineers. We searched for a structural engineer and found Joe Otto, of Ireland Engineering, on Unilocal.We also saw that he was local (Fremont), and been voted Best of Fremont in his profession. We called Joe and thus began our journey into the unknown! Joe was such a pleasure to work with from the very start. He and his colleague, Garry, worked with our contractor to design a solution for our foundation problem. Unfortunately, once we uncovered the old foundation (piers) and saw that they were not structurally sound, we had to regroup and come up with a new solution. Joe worked quickly and diligently to provide a new plan and drawings which passed the planning department with no problems. Joe was always available to answer any questions our contractor had, and coordinated with our contractor to make the necessary site visits. Joe is professional, diligent and detail oriented — qualities that we greatly appreciated. He was also very fair with his billing. We had such a negative experience with our soils engineer, so it was especially nice that things went so smoothly with Joe. The foundation repair and earthquake retrofitting we did passed city inspection with no issues, and we feel so relieved that our home is now safe and sound. We also decided to add a bump-​out to our dining room, and Joe and Garry were able to draw up the plans, do the Title 24 paperwork, and those plans also had no issues with the planning department and inspectors. We would not hesitate to recommend Ireland Engineering, and if we ever add an addition to our house, we will be calling Joe to do the engineering. Thank you, both, Joe and Garry.
