took car in for a smog check and it was the cheapest around anywhere and went very smoothly. Mark seemed like a very nice guy and was especially considerate with letting me know to be careful backing out and helping me cuz I parked very poorly. Probably saved me from a broken right side mirror.

I’m driving home in crazy traffic when my temperature gauge starts skyrocketing. I pull off, and a good samaritan pulls over (blessings on you, Michael Ray!) and stays with me until the tow truck gets there. He recommends I go to Lido and see Mark, the owner. Two tow trucks later, (the free one from CalTrans to get me off the freeway, then my roadside assistance), and it’s 4:40 pm. Mark comes out and tells me it’s too close to closing time, but I say please and tell him I’m still an hour from home and my family. He relents, rush orders the parts, and he and his mechanic Jose, stay late to get me out by 5:30. Mark reminded me of a gruff old friend of my dad, so don’t expect the red carpet treatment, but he took care of me when I was stranded, so I owe him one. He also gave me a long list of everything else I needed to fix on the car, and although I would have gladly paid twice as much, I was out the door with a new piston and serpentine belt installed for $ 150. And I made it home for dinner!

I started to have car troubles (Gasket/​engine problems) and my dad took my car here to be fixed. Both times, I had problem, both times problem were NOT fixed. Dont waste your time, money, and stress here! Dont even bother coming here. Not worth it. The second time, my car ALMOST had a big problem on the highway (already headed home), the car almost overheated on the highway, because of the carelessness of the people here. Thats all I have to say about this place… Thank goodness there are more of garage/​mechanics businesses nowadays! Another thing, the first time around my dad took my car to this garage, they dented (pretty big dent too!) my car! They did not even bother to fix it! Such carelessness! In conclusion, dont bother coming here!

Old man would not help with tire change said he was too busy! He was sitting on his ass in the office picking his nose I wish I could give zero will never do business with this place again very rude now I’m gonna crank call him all day!

ALERT ! ALERT! ALERT! Save yourself the headache! This guy Mark tried to physically fight me just like I have read in another review. I saw his bad Unilocal reviews and was more inclined to go due to the «Fake» 5 star reviews that he has. So with this I had gone into his shop on my best behavior and was super nice nice to this old douchebag. He did not want to smog my car because I had told him I had done a repair. I did not understand this one bit! He is a racist pig and tried to make any excuse to not accept my business! I went to Great American Smog on Thornton and passed my smog with the best service and price in town. Save yourself the trouble people. Be AWARE ! By the way Mark, you look disgusting, you inbred meth head looking hillbilly with no teeth. Go to hell.

Everything went smooth and well. I called a day earlier making an appointment. I showed up on time the next day, he was there expecting me. Had my smog check done in half an hour. Went to him two years ago was $ 20, now a $ 25, but regardless I still think it’s pretty reasonable.

I generally don’t get influenced by a single bad review, so I decided to give Lido a try.
My experience was exactly the same as Nawaf’s. I walk in, Mark comes over, I tell him that I need a smog check. And he starts about his philosophy and that I need to work around his schedule because he has the best-​price in town for a smog. Then he has the gall to say that people from certain ethnicity are never on time because apparently he was waiting for someone and that person hadn’t show up. He wanted me to come the next day and he was confident to I would because of the price. Frankly its not worth saving $ 5 and not getting my chore taken care of. I drove to A&A smog down the street and got my smog check in 15 mins and I was out. Bye Bye Mark — never going to back to him for anything.

I agree with the others on smog service. You can’t beat the $ 20 out-​the-​door price (cash).

Mark is definitely one of the old school in for the passion of loving cars type of mechanic. He charged me 20 $ for a smog check without any mentioning of the craiglists ad.
He also mentioned me to me my brake fluid was running low and I should do an AC check (both of which I knew as I just moved here). Respectable & honest

Hands down the most honest mechanic you’ll ever find. I went there about 7 months ago to get my Volvo 850 smogged and he had me in and out in under 25 minutes. If you’re looking for a quick, affordable smog this is your guy.
As for his general mechanic services he’s fantastic. My Volvo is from 96′ so it’s seen it’s fair share of usage, took it in and he and his other mechanic went ahead and looked at it for me and told me pretty much everything they noticed was wrong with it. I had a CV Boot done for a fair price and he tipped me off to a couple of other small problems I had. I remember asking him if he could read a CEL code for me and he did it free of charge since I’ve been there before. He told me what was wrong with it and told me how much it would cost to get it fixed. I told him I didn’t have that much money as I’m a college student and he pretty much told me flat out that it was a simple enough job for me to do and gave me some tips on how I could go about doing it. I’ve been to a few mechanics with higher reviews on Unilocal who weren’t half as honest as Mark!
Unfortunately, I had to move to Sacramento and dealt with a mechanic who claimed he was a professional Volvo Mechanic, lol. After taking it to him and finding that the Turbo Vacuum hose was completely loose, and that he had broken my turbo vacuum gauge wire I think I’ll invest $ 40 and a 2 hour drive to take it to Mark to get the job done right. He may not advertise it but I was surprised at how much he knew about Volvo’s, seeing as how his shop only had American cars in it. A foolish judgement on my part. Mark pretty much knew my car inside and out before he even started working on it. Gave me a heads up about a few problems these models experiences down the road (850 Turbo) and sure enough he’s been right each time. Heh, he even told me that I shouldn’t take my car to a dealership to fix the broken Odometer because I could get a kit online and fix it myself for ~$ 10. Mark has a great passion for cars that can be seen in the quality of work he produces.
Be it smog or auto repair, I can’t recommend this place enough!

Least expensive place in Fremont. Friendly service by a guy who obviously just wanted to turn his love for cars into a career. Only bad thing I have to say is he does not do oil changes, because he can’t find a oil cheap enough to do it at a fair price. I personally blame the big oil and wall street for this. Give this guy your business he is one of the last honest business men in Fremont

$ 20 flat smog check, including certificate and ETF (this is if you mention the craigslist ad, otherwise it’s $ 30, which is still a steal, but all you have to do is say «craigslist» and you’ll get $ 10 off!)…I’ve been shopping around for a while and this is THE lowest price ever, and when you consider the fact that you’re also getting great, friendly, honest, and meticulous service that only takes 30 minutes, this is an absolute steal. Please pay him cash if you’re doing the $ 20 deal… it’s so cheap we should really help him keep every penny that he earned.
I loved my experience so much here that I implore you to please support this tire and auto center and come here if you need any work done on your car! It seems to be doing very well but I would be so sad to see it disappear if people don’t know about it and don’t go. Don’t go to the guys next door… have you seen their Unilocal reviews?
I’m definitely recommending all my friends and family go here. It’s just off 680 and easy to find (look for the oil change shop, and it’s right behind it!). Just bring your laptop or book, and have a seat on the couch!

So happy I found this place! Needed my 4WD SUV smogged. Heard all kinds of stories online about places charging extra for 4WD because they have to manually run the RPM or need a 4WD dyno. Never heard of that in the previous 2 states I’ve lived in and it’s a farse to think the small amount of extra effort… not extra time… required to do this is somehow worth $ 10 – 20 more for a stinkin’ smog check. Called this place up, set an appointment and everything was done quickly for me with no hastles. The person was apologetic for having to charge me $ 30…TOTAL (certificate/​transmission inclusive). Apologetic? For charging me possibly the lowest price you can find anywhere, and no coupon required? He said the machine was just costing too much to maintain for him to continue the $ 20 checks. I certainly wasn’t complaining! After all the horror stories of dishonest smog check shops (come on guys… it’s just a smog check… just…do.a.smog.check!) I am very happy to have found this place and will return here yearly.
Sadly, even my 12 year old SUV with a hulking V8 engine produces smog levels at the bottom (or 0) on the scales, and yet somehow I STILL have to smog this thing every year? It doesn’t make sense, but I suppose it helps employment at the DMVs and smog check stations.

Honest Service and good value pricing. I had the check engine light on my car and needed a smog test. The manager used a computer scanner without charge and told me that thermostat needed replacement. I dropped my car off since I work during the day and I was called about the price of the service and parts before completing the service. I got my car back after work and they were even willing to wait for me to get to the shop. I was also informed that I needed to run my car a several miles before smog check since the smog system will fail to combat fake smog fixing. Overall, satisfied and happy customer. I recommend this service center.

$ 20 out of the door, nice owner, got done in 30 min. What more can you ask?

Alright, I’ll check it out. My 2002 Ford Explorer needed a smog check. I thought they might add a few bucks ‘cus it’s a truck. Nope! $ 20.25

Visited Lido Tire for a smog check after seeing their Craigslist-​advertised pricing of $ 20.25 out the door. Very small two-​man operation on a sparsely trafficked block near the Fremont Blvd/​Driscoll Road/​Washington Blvd intersection. When I arrived at the garage, Mark, the proprietor, was busy with another smog and suggested I return in an hour’s time.
Upon my return, sure enough, the smog queue had disappeared and I was promptly serviced. Mark was quite outgoing and shared some interesting stories spanning 26 years (and going strong!) of business at this location. The smog check was quite comprehensive, much moreso than the usual 10-​minute computerized dynamometer check I’m used to, as Mark dug around under the hood with a keen eye. At this point, cynicism kicked in and I started feeling a bit uneasy about what was to be discovered, but at same time, wanting reassurance that I wouldn’t be rendered disabled awaiting emergency roadside assistance for being lax with my car maintenance. Fortunately, aside from some corrosion and a partly cracked hose, all measured up to Mark’s stringent standards.
30-​minutes of garage time well spent, highly recommended!
