St. Joseph School is dedicated to providing a strong Catholic religious formation and a quality academic education for students in grades TK through 8 in an ethnically diverse community. Students, parents, educators and parish community strive to empower our students to be service minded leaders for church and community. Service to others is a powerful component of St. Joseph School.

The school is dedicated to fostering each student’s relationship with God and others and the educational program is directed toward the growth of the whole child: spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and psychological.

To accomplish this end there is a multitude of student services including comprehensive Physical Education, Art history, Music, Reading Enrichment and Spanish programs, Special Needs, Extended Day Care program, Choir, Drama, Glee, Ecology, and Math clubs, 6th and 8th Grade Science Camps, library, field trips, school counseling, and a variety of CYO sports.

History

Established in 1960.

The school opened in September 1960 with 100 students and 2 Dominican sisters as their teachers. Kindergarten was added in 1987. A library was added in 1994. In 1997, St. Joseph School became a National Blue Ribbon School. Early in the school year 2013 – 2014, the Dominican Kindergarten was fully incorporated into Saint Joseph School with a beautiful new facility and play area.

Rooted in the Dominican spirit and tradition of excellence and truth, the school is committed to instilling Gospel values and providing a nurturing, faith-​filled environment that strengthens the individual’s self-​worth, appreciates diversity and encourages caring interdependence.

My wife and I had high hopes for this school that we wanted our son to start 7th grade here coming out of 6th grade at a public school nearby. Long story short, our son was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age though he’s done good from K to 6th grade in public school with a GPA of 2.8. But after all our explanation and my son shadowing their 6th grade class (which the Principal asked for) so they can observe, the principal, Mrs. Mendoza, turned down my kid for admission.
Our face to face meeting with Mrs. Mendoza and Mrs. Vieira (I forgot her title. school health/​psychologist of some sort) revolved around drugging the kid. What’s wrong with these people. I can only conclude that Mrs. Mendoza is biased against ADHD and is ignorant about it. She didn’t even bother calling up my kid’s teacher to find out how he’s really behaved from K to 6th grade. She didn’t even bother responding to my email asking to elaborate why she turned down his admission. What a shame for a «catholic» school. God accepts all children but apparently not this school. Our son has been going to St. Joseph school for catechism. Even played the part of Joseph for the Nativity story for the church last year. Thankfully he’s completed his catechism this year so we have no need to come to this school… ever. We are frequent church goers to St. Joseph Church. We will be switching church as well.

My daughter has attended St. Joseph Catholic School since kindergarten. Now she’s in 3rd grade and is very happy. Her class is small and there’s a lot of individual attention. She gets instruction in music, art, Spanish and the basic academics. There is tutoring available to kids that need extra help. There are a lot of opportunities for extra curricular work. This is a school that works great for my husband and I because they encourage even require some volunteer work from parents. We want to be involved in our daughter’s education. We know almost everyone that works there now and we find our daughter is so enthusiastic about school and that was a feeling that I never had when I was in school.
The religion is not too heavy, meaning that students are taught religion as another academic subject. I like the religion and my family is Catholic, but I don’t want it take so much time away from a well balanced curriculum. There are a few kids in my daughter’s class that are not Catholic and they feel comfortable in the environment which creates a good sense of diversity. I would recommend St. Josephs School for families that want to be a part of a community and involved in their kid’s education. It works for us.

I love St. Joseph School! The principal has an open door policy and is always willing and eager to talk to students and parents. The kids are the center of all she does and it is obvious that she has their best interest and well being at heart. It is difficult to read reviews from an obviously disgruntled parent, L.N., who probably just did not get his or her way and then could not be bothered to take the time to go in and discuss it in a reasonable way with the school administration. So sad that he or she would take time to vent on Unilocal rather than take that time to try to resolve any conflict or misunderstanding with the school. My children are a part of the St. Joseph School and what L.N. has said is a very inaccurate portrayal of the school. The curriculum is strong and as far as I know most of their students who apply to Catholic High School get into their first choice. Mrs. M is awesome and her dedication is abundantly clear. (I have been an SJS parent for over 10 years!)

After 8 years of having my child at this school, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. My child has received an outstanding education and a solid foundation for going on to high school. But more importantly, he has been taught how to be a good person. The educational standards are excellent. The teachers are outstanding. The administration is phenomenal. The spirit and the message of Christianity and its teaching of kindness and compassion are an integral part of the school and their approach to educating the «whole child». Thank you St. Joseph for all you do for our kids!

St. Joseph does a great job of having a high level of academic excellence, without the high pressure. Also, while compassionately encompassing Jesus and the Church into their daily activities. I feel safe and secure that my child goes to St. Joseph School.
