Dealing with taxes can be very stressful sometimes. I had used a few accountants in the past until I’ve found Winnie Chan @ Hyton Accounting & Consulting LLC. Not only Winnie is knowledgeable and confident in her field but she would patiently go over all of the expenses of my business & personal accounts and look at every angle to maximize the possible deductions. When handling personal finance I want to find someone trustworthy and reliable, and I have found the one! Sometimes, even in a city full of service providers in every field, it’s not easy to know who to engage. It’s hard to know who the good, reasonably-​priced lawyers are, the decent accountants, the doctors with the right touch.
If you can’t find out via word of mouth, it’s a slightly scary, almost random selection process.
On my very first visit to her office (which she squeezed in on very short notice after I explained the seriousness of my problem) we dug right in, got some stuff resolved, spent some time on the phone with the IRS, and we’re on the road to resolving my tax issues.
Again, if you have a tax situation, and don’t know where to go and are looking for help, call Winnie, I did and I feel better already.

I highly recommend Hyton Accounting for personal tax returns. This is my second year using Winnie’s services and she’s been able to maximize both my federal and NY state returns immensely — more so than most previous years of returns. I’ve already referred her to several of my friends and was provided a referral discount on my tax preparation fee.
All in all, I feel that Winnie is a highly competent expert in tax returns. She’s very straightforward, made a few suggestions to maximize my itemized deductions (ie: whether setting up a college fund for my daughter would be beneficial to me), and is very knowledgable about all things taxes. For example, I received a random letter from my bank about a mistake they made two years ago on one of my tax forms but Winnie promptly told me that it wasn’t applicable to my scenario and that I didn’t need to worry about it. It’s good to have an expert working on your side!
What to expect when you file with Hyton:
Winnie asks that you first print out and fill out a few forms, scan them when complete, and upload them to her secure file server. It’s bit of work to go through all of my tax forms to fill out the pre-​paperwork but any questions I had were answered by Winnie over email. Winnie then prepares your taxes, sends them over for review, and schedules a time for you to sign the forms in person in her office. I was in and out of her office within 15 minutes once everything was complete. (My previous accountant was old school and I would have to drive to his office, give him all of my hardcopies, answer a bunch of questions, wait around, and then drive over a few days later to pick up the completed return. A big waste of time, in my opinion.)
If you respect yourself, go with Winnie at Hyton Accounting and you’ll definitely reap the benefits of doing your taxes with a true professional.

So I actually visited Winnie last year for the 2013 tax season but purposely did not write a review. I wanted to make sure she was as good as the other Unilocal reviews made her out to be before posting. What can I say — she passed my expectations.
After working with Winnie, I noticed just how bad of a job my previous accountant was doing. I felt like I was just another customer who made «this much money» so they templated me and gave me whatever the program decided to spew out.
Winnie on the other hand was to the point, meticulous, detail oriented, asked a bunch of questions to familiarize herself with my situation and all this resulted in her maximizing my tax return. She responds to emails throughout the day and even late at night which is a huge plus. My mind was especially blown when I went to do my taxes this weekend and she remembered who I was, that I referred my sister, and she knew my sister’s name! I can’t say if that verified her interest in her customer or just how prepared she gets for tax season (or both), but at the end of the day I knew I was in the hands of a top-​notch accountant.
I’ve already recommended a bunch of friends and family to her and they share the same thoughts. She has a new office too so no more cramped for space.

I found Winnie and her firm on Unilocal and decided to give it a try since my previous accountants’ performances weren’t exactly satisfying, and I needed an accountant badly to handle my case that was quite complicated. She has been working with me on managing back taxes dating to 2010 and issues on LLC dissolution. She might come across as a bit stand off-​ish or of not exactly fuzzy and warm personality, but she is very good at what she does. Winnie tells you like it is, and does not over-​promise on returns or positive outcomes. I found comfort in discussing with her such private issues as finances in frank and practical terms, while finding steps that might help me to be better at managing these tasks. I will update once my issues are finalized as I am still sorting out LLC stuff and 2013 tax returns that are on extension with her. All in all, I find her to be a sound advisor trustworthy on tax matters. She is certainly a keeper, even though getting to her office from Manhattan is a bit of a challenge.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! I wished I knew what all the good reviewers were talking about, it’s seems like a completely different person. But I went to Winnie for the first time this year hoping to try my luck with a new accountant. She seemed CONFUSED every step of the way. She couldn’t answer any of my tax questions (e.g.-what can I write off as a freelancer? Does it make sense to write this off? If I only made x amt of money on my freelance business, do I have to report it.). She made me fill out a form to add up my personal expenses as a freelancer and do the calculations on my own. Why would I need her if I have to do the math myself anyway?! I could just use turbo tax! She was also confused with my multiple receipts for different monetary donations (couldn’t find the dollar amts donated which is clearly listed on the official letters — I’m talking about standard receipt letters from the Red Cross, cars for kids, etc.). And to top it all off, she would look at my W2 and paperwork and then refer to me and my husband in the third person when we are sitting right in front of her — we had just introduced ourselves! Then after spending ½ hr explaining my own tax information to her (again, could have saved my breath and used turbo tax), she wanted us to just come back another time to pick up the taxes instead of doing it right there during our appt. We should have walked away right then and there. We ended up owing money which is besides the point since Uncle Sam is unkind to responsible working professionals who don’t have kids or own a home. In short, if you want an accountant who can truly advise you, she is NOT it. Actually, she’s not even an accountant, just a tax preparer which I only realized after the fact. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!

Well, sadly for you Winnie I am a real customer. Everything I wrote is the truth, you couldn’t advise me on my taxes or answer any of my tax questions. You DID talk to me in third person and you didn’t even introduce yourself. My advice is if you are going to run a business, learn some basic social skills for business interaction. If you know your stuff, then answer the questions people ask. If you don’t answer basic questions like should I file this form or that for my taxes, then I can’t trust that you know what you are doing.
Anyone thinking of using her, I wish you luck. Maybe you will get the person all the great reviews rave about. That was the whole reason why I even tried her out. Doing taxes is never fun anyway, but Winnie made it super stressful and maddening just by the way she treats you. I had a terrible experience, maybe your experience would be different, but I just want to prepare people so they’re not shocked when they get an experience like mine.

P. S. — I did my taxes with Winnie during the tax season in March, I just never wrote a review about her until now since I want to make sure everything was filed and went through properly.

Not only did this firm take us on last minute, they actually saved us a bunch of money that our previous accountant could not !

I was in need of a new accountant, I didn’t like how my past accountant handled my paper work so I went on Unilocal for assistance. I came across Hyton accounting then I read all the great reviews about this place. I was convinced that this was going to be my new accountant for the long haul.
I had made an appointment a week ago and the day finally came. I was 30 minutes late but I had called to apologize and they were very understanding, which was GREAT because I felt horrible about it!
I finally arrived to the office and met the popular «Winnie!» When I got there I apologized for being late again but this time in person. She was very short with me and told me I had a few minutes because she has another client that was running really late as well. (I guess the person felt her fire over the phone)
The entire time I was there she was short with her words and had very little patience when talking to me. I felt so uncomfortable!!! Then I felt as if I was getting punished because of my past accountant’s mistakes. How was I supposed to know he did something wrong? I didn’t go to school for this?! If I did, I would’ve done my own taxes! Then I was being treated as if I was a moron because I didn’t know the steps that had to be taken after I sold my property (I’m young and this is all new to me)! So she stared at me for seconds with out blinking. At this point I was really nervous and wanted to get out of there. I got the courage to tell Winnie, that I will take my business somewhere else and that I was very sorry to waste her time. She then ripped my paper work in front of me. I was so shocked with her nasty behavior. She seemed like she was going to call the irs on me herself because of my old idiot accountant !
This lady was rude, condescending, and just plain ol mean! I really could’ve stayed and sucked it up but her rates are high and if I’m paying a pretty penny, you better be respectful.
I don’t understand why she has great reviews? Ugh, she was so scary! Oh well, you can’t please everyone. I hope this was helpful!

I must say that Winnie is a true professional. She is very clear with tax explanation and makes you feel comfortable. Her office is clean, tidy, all the documents she handles are highly organized.
