I found a new Chinese restaurant that’s not a so call take out joint. I have a method and it usually works. I go to a new place and order very simple food to go. For instance, I ordered sweet and sour soup and pork dumpling. If a place messes up on these 2 food then they are pretty much done. I tell you. The soup was perfect I mean the soup was actually hot(spicy) and sweet. Some places are very blend and not hot at all. Dumpling was just perfect too. Perfect texture to enough pork fillings. Sauce was just right. Final note. I got chopsticks in my to go bag. They want you to have an authentic Asian experience. Good job…

I went for take out. I ordered the shredded chicken noodle soup and also the wonton soup. The broth in the wonton soup was so clear and delicious and the wontons were light, fluffy and had a good amount of pork. The noodle soup had lots of white meat chicken and lots of noodles. The person who took my order was courteous and friendly. I’m glad to have authentic Chinese cuisine close by instead of the usual Americanized Chinese food. I’ll definitely be going back.

A friend brought over takeouts yesterday. Again, big disappointment. All ingredients were not fresh especially shrimp. We had to throw away the whole order. Shame…

My wife and I went here looking for a good sit down Chinese restaurant, we have passed it many times so figured we would give it a chance. We were given menus and were given a table, at first it was empty aside for some college students. After a while the place filled up, we noticed that the Asian people that came after us were given a different menu than we had received(both in English and Chinese) and they were also given tea which we were not offered. It made us feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable. The food was a bit more authentic than I thought it would be, but we stuck to basic American Chinese dishes. We ordered Sesame Chicken which was as it should be and tasted good. The pork fried dumplings were quite good though smaller than average. I ordered pan fried noodles with beef. The beef was tender, but the sauce was too bland, tasted like a simple mix of soy sauce and beef broth, it lacked seasoning and flavor. The snow pea pods were very limp. If you are looking for sit down chinese restaurants that are less authentic and that have good food, you can find better option up Union Turnpike.

We’ve eaten here a few times and the food’s been consistently good. I love their Prawns With Sichuan Pepper and Spiced Salt, as well as the Fish with Silky Tofu and Soybeans. Most everything is spicy, and definitely tasty. They have great presentation too. Their menu has a variety of choices, which made us decide to hold my in-law’s 75th birthday dinner here. Amy helped us plan the menu for 15 people, and she was very accommodating and knowledgeable when it came to food requests and the number of dishes to include. Needless to say, the dinner was a success. We’ve recommended this place to people we know, and we’ve also been back a few times since.

Love the food And the service here. This is my first time to this place and I’m happy they open here. Don’t have to go down to the messy and all the traffic in flushing.

I came from sichuan where the origin of spicy food. So I can easily tell which restaurant has the most delicious spicy(Sichuan cuisine) in the U.S. Definitely the authentic spicy food in this area.

We tried some new dishes today and they are really good! Fish is sour flavor. Pork belly is spicy and we all like chicken and the vegetable!

The restaurant overall is pretty good. Food is good. And they also have a small bar for people who love to drink.

The restaurant was pretty much empty when I went around 4 in the afternoon. The food tasted decent but the presentation was great. I was not prepared to have such a heavy tasting meal but pretty much everything had some level of spiciness.

Markets itself as a Szechuan restaurant but a quick glance at the menu will lead you to believe otherwise as it is a hodgepodge of popular Cantonese dishes, Szechuan dishes, Shanghai, along with ten other cities and provinces of China. I ordered a classic Szechuan dish listed on the menu as ox tongue, but what I received comprised mainly of intestines and only five or six thin slices of actual meat, which is a far cry from what I’m used to having in authentic Szechuan eateries. Very disappointed with the food but the person who greeted me was very nice and welcoming, so it wasn’t an entirely negative experience.

Saw this place when I was driving by heading to my uncle’s place from my parent’s place. At first glance it looked similar to Mian which is located on horace harding. I thought it would be similiar and be Cantonese café type of food. To my surprise, this was actually a Szechuan place. Always happy to find a good Szechuan place. Well if that’s what you’re looking for, look further away. Best way to summarize what is to come in the rest of this review. We got here around lunchtime on a Saturday. Not to difficult to find parking since there’s free parking all around in the residential area. It was pretty empty for lunch on a Saturday, but we weren’t concerned since it was a rainy and cold Saturday. There was one large party in the back and a 2 top. We were ushered to the other side of the restaurant, where there is a larger seating area. The flow is definitely not the best. On the other side there was 1 party of 5, they were St. Johns Pharmacy school students, as you could tell by their conversation. We were seated in the back next to this party of 5. There were 5 of us and we ordered several dished, please refer to pictures. We ordered the spicy fish pot, fried rice, broccoli and tofu, soup dumplings, pork and chives, spicy dumplings, spicy beef tendon and sweet ribs. Not sure if these are the correct names on the menu. The food came out pretty quickly. The ribs were pretty tasty, but so incredibly dry it was like eating charred meat. My little cousin literally ate all the sauce with rice. I thought the broccoli and tofu and the pork and chives were pretty tasty. The spicy beef tendon was not really spicy. Everything else, I would care to forget. Especially the soup dumplings, which were obviously frozen store brought dumplings. They had no soup in them and you could tell they were most likely prime brand soup dumplings. Yes I know my frozen dumplings quite well. The rice was soggy, both the fried and the white rice. It was borderline dense congee. We got our check and intended to leave a 15% tip since the service was mediocre and the food was just plan bad. The owner or manager came back and said that we needed to tip more because she gave us a discount. First off we didn’t notice the discount, so that was quite awkward for us. It would have helped to let us know in the first place. It was a nice gesture, it just became awkward when she asked for more tip… So in the end it might not have been the weather, but probably the food that leads to this place being empty at lunchtime on a Saturday.

The previously ancient Italian restaurant, Danté at this location has been replaced by Ly’s Chinese here on Union Turnpike. A sit-down Chinese restaurant has been absent in this area for a while since Elite Chefs across the street closed a while ago. But while Elite Chefs was a Cantonese cuisine and dim sum house, Ly’s offers a spicy and fiery Sichuan experience. We started with the hot & sour soup, which wasn’t excessively hot, but we followed with wontons in spicy oil and dan dan noodles. The wontons were overly sauced, swimming in chili oil, but the noodles were spot on. Skip the xiao lung bao, it’s not their specialty. The mapo tofu was the killer and just kept on burning. After a while it was a slow simmer, but it was a good burn. Mind you that the spiciness is a good mix and to accent to the flavor of the dishes. Word to the wise, get plenty of white rice to cut the spicy sauces. We also ordered some non-spicy stuff like the fish fillet in black bean sauce, dry string beans and chicken in basil sauce(3 cup chicken), which were good sized and tasty. Excuse me while I run outside and dip my tongue in the snow bank. YOW! I don’t know what they consider extremely spicy, but the medium hot is enough to seriously scorch some taste buds. It’s probably because we ordered a bunch of different hot dishes that just built up the spiciness until your eyeballs start sweating and bulge out. I’m usually good with spicy and this is a good burn, but this was teetering on the edge of torturous pain. Hit me with some more of that mapo, will you?

I’m always super sad when an Italian restaurant leaves the neighborhood, but I have to say this restaurant is really good. Contrary to what Jean said below, this restaurant actually has Szechuan food, not Cantonese. It’s spicy, tangy, peppery and the unmistakable minty yet piquant flavor of the Szechuan peppercorn is featured in many of their dishes. I love almost everything I’ve had on the menu here but my sole critique would be their chicken – sometimes it’s difficult to eat certain chicken dishes because all their chicken seems to come on the bone. You know when you wanna just dig into your food and chow down? You kinda can’t do that here because you’re worried about a million tiny little bones getting stuck in your gums(happened to me from the food here once – OW). So you have to eat it very deliberately and it gets very messy. I would recommend the Szechuan popcorn chicken. So delish.

I just went there today with my friend for dinner. No greeting when entered the restaurant. Waitresses are lack of knowledge on menus. We ordered one noodle and three other courses includes fish, crab and cabbage. They all taste bad, worth than any small take out restaurant. Waitress never changed dishes, never asked how is the food, no smile when we called for refilling hot water in tea pot, no greeting back after we said thank you. It’s a very bad experience and I will never go back to this restaurant. Tastes bad and waitress no smile and no services. Will never go back!

Not a bad place. It is spacious and roomy. When I went, it was pretty quiet and people came in and out taking their orders to go. The dishes here are mostly spicy dishes since its a szechuan place. Being that I came with my mom and she can’t handle spicy dishes, we were able to tell the waitress to make the dishes suitable for her taste buds. This took away from their dishes but if they were able to cater to our needs and have the dishes still taste good, I think the chef deserves some compliments. I would definitely come again and order without having them alter their dishes.

Have been here a few times and have really enjoyed the food. I have gone for the more authentic dishes instead of the lunch«specials». So can’t really speak to the latter. Had pork buns today that are close to the best I have had. Dried bean curd dishes, sliced fish, Sichuan chicken, all really good. Portions on some dishes like wonton in hot oil are really small for the price. Should also get bigger steamers for pork buns to prevent crowding. However, the chef has some serious skills! Hope they continue to work out the kinks. Will be back for sure. Ample free parking in side streets. Nice alternative to downtown Flushing.

I’ve been here 6 times and I’m always very satisfied with the food. The Fish Filets Caserole with Napa and Chili was fantastic. The Beef Tendons dish was very different… not what I expected… but I enjoyed it very much. I also had a GREAT spicy pork dish which was delicious. The Won-Ton Soup is excellent. Very clear and pure and flavorful with deilcious wontonettes. I still need to get up the nerve to try a few of the more exotic dishes. I’m going to do it. The new sign has been installed and my friends and neighbors… and St. John’s students… need to get on your Laptops and iPhones and iPads… and snap photos and write reviews of the great dishes they’re cooking and serving at Ly’s. This is a great new place.

I have come here twice for lunch take out. Cheap, solid, and delicious. Sounds like a plan. Typical cantonese food on a budget. Sounds like my groove. but… don’t start expecting any high level of haute cuisine here… The last time I came, I ordered the Ma Po Tofu and the Sesame Chicken with brown rice and hot and sour soup. The soup was fine(how on earth does one mess up on that). The Sesame Chicken was alright. They used white meat… and as a legit Asian person, I’d rather have dark meat. The brown rice was fine. It was the MAPOTOFU that was rather on the nasty side. Vile? no, that’s much too far. Yeah… my original choice of nasty sounds right. The tofu had NO flavor. The sauce was some sort of corn starch sugar mixed with hoisin… that is NOT the correct sauce. It was gross. DOWNRIGHTDIRTYGROSS. if you’re strapped for cash, come in. But don’t start expecting something amazing.

There are a lot of choices on its menu. Service is good. The dishes were mildly spicy. I give 70⁄100. Will go and try more.
