Queens Health Emporium

Came here once couple summers ago to look for kids organic sun block, store has a lot of inventory, packed house I would say. There is a second loft level for chips and junk food. The staff was helpful in helping me find what I needed but the store itself was not extremely appetizing to me. Even though there were a lot of people shopping, I get the feeling that the inventory just sits there for some time. Having only been here once, I would return if I need organic goods.

The queens health emporium is my go to place for almost everything. If you’re looking for this fancy Shmansy place to feel zen this is not the place– it’s a heavily packed shop which utilizes every square centimeter in order to provide as many products as possible.
They have an amazing organic section for raw fruits and veggies as well as a selection of packaged organic foods. I love coming here because they have everything from essential oils, cooking oils (refined/​unrefined) vitamins and herbal medicines– it’s truly a one stop shop for all of your holistic and nutritional needs.
At the back of the store they have a bit of a buffet comprised of a multitude of salads (hot or cold) soups, a juice bar, sautés and more. Their seaweed salad is so delicious as is the tempeh salad!
I was so pleased with the variety of products they have such as dried white mulberries, an array of oats and granola, raw nuts and grains.
I found organic raw sprouts and I couldn’t have been happier. I highly recommend coming here with a list of things you need because ones eyes are hungrier than ones stomach. Hence it’s easy to spend money here which you didn’t anticipate due to the large amount of unique and rare products they offer which may be tempting to purchase.

I so wanted to give this place a lower review but I knew it wouldn’t be fair.
Large selection of everything from vegan products, to produce to beauty supplies. There are a couple brands I have a hard time finding elsewhere in fact.
However, I have been coming here for YEARS and have never left with a smile. They staff is slow, uninformed and slow moving. The actual store is unorganized and there hot food leaves something to be desired. The location is also not the best… right off the highway… little public transit and parking.

They have a great selection of vegan items, in addition to organic items and other things health conscious people might be interested in like deodorants without aluminum, toothpaste without fluoride, cosmetics without the carcinogens mainstream ones have, and other things of the sort. They have monthly sale items, but they’ll tend to run out of them towards the end of the month, so shop early.

Good selection of fresh veggies and super large selection of organic vegan, dairy free and gluten free goods. Also good selection of supplements as well as natural beauty products. It’s oddly organized and not the happiest looking space. Prices are on par with fairway or whole foods. It’s a good option for bulk goods. Their fruit and veggies looked a bit wilted to me.

Great selection, a lot to choose from and has been expanding over the years which I am happy to see! Unfortunately, I choose to do organic food shopping elsewhere most of the time (although this place is literally a 40 second walk from my door) because their prices are just ridiculously over priced compared to other organic food markets.

I really like this place. Usually come here once in a while for lunch. They have hot food inside and I order soy chicken with various sides like kale or cabbage or rice. They also have veggie burgers and veggie juices they can make you. for about $ 8 it’s not bad at all and they give you a lot of food. I haven’t shopped around but they do have a lot of various products. Their produce section always looks fresh.

My eco-​organic friend bought me something from here once and ever since it’s been on my list of organic-​health spots to check out. This place and Westerly Natural Market…
Parking can be good or hard to find depending on the day. The parking in the rear is like a garbage alley way and fits 4 – 6 cars. The area is a residential neighborhood with the entrance to the LIE within a few hundred feet.
Walk in and I thought the place would be bigger but it’s mid sized.
Initial impression, fruit and organic veggies, nothing unique. I asked the dude where the organic ginger is he points and it’s not there, look around not to be fount… forget that I move on.
My daily organic honey I consume is on sale by a few bucks. Bam, a jar in my cart, thanks Queens Health Emporium for saving me a dollar. And I got myself some «Killer Bee Honey», is this stuff better then «Non Killer Bee Honey»?
And Dr. Praeger’s Veggie Burgers were on sale, so grabbed a box of that and some other stuff.
Lines are moderate but luckily they have many cashier’s to accommodate that.
The «Deli» section didn’t have Deli items. They had warm food. Walked upstairs to the tiny dining area and it’s blah, nothing to see there.
What’s good about the place is the frozen section is stocked well with a variety of items. Shelves have variety of items like vegan-​organic bars, snacks, independent wholesome foods, cereal, soap/​cleaning products of the non-​chemically harmful variety, etc…
Didn’t check out upstairs but first impression was a good one.

Iam always to excited to shop this place. They have a large collections of fresh organic produce. I like their organic apples, oranges and bananas. They are very fresh, taste excellent and distinguished in quality from non organic ones. The vegetables are also fresh and very good. I bought celery, carrots and cabbage last week. The quality is much higher than the non organic ones. I also like their nuts like almond and walnuts. They taste fresh. I also bought almond milk and organic corn flakes. I am enjoying these in almost every morning. The only defect in this store is high price.

As far as health food stores go, I really love this place. Solid selection. Beautiful produce. Nice variety of interesting vegan products that you don’t see very often. Decent prices. Sweet staff.
I took away one star because I think there are two issues they need to address. The first is expired food in the refrigerated section that goes unnoticed. The second is inconsistency in their frozen section. I’d say one out of very five frozen items I’ve gotten from QHE is either freezer burned or otherwise texturally off due to melting and re-​freezing. I’ve just stopped buying frozen stuff from there all together.

I love this store, not because it’s super fancy or special but because when I need something odd that I think I would probably need to find online they usually have it. It surprises me every time! Especially when it comes to supplements that other stores in the area don’t carry.
They have a huge stock of items, that comes with a price. Whenever I am looking for something they usually have a few options to choose from brand, size, assortment wise. The store isn’t huge but it’s far from small. So far I haven’t had an issue with not being able to locate anything and the employees are usually quite knowledgeable about the products that they sell.

My family and I have been coming here for 25+ years.
I give 5 stars to the grocery store. Good selection of fresh produce, vitamins & medicine, tinctures, essential oils, natural makeup & hair dye. They also have an array of vegan products like Follow Your Heart, Daiya Cheese & Amy’s. They have speciality foods like sunflower and quinoa milk & a baby section of jarred foods & special baby items like natural teething gel. You can basically find anything healthy here. Everything a health food store should be. Many cashiers and fast lines. Prices vary from moderate to expensive.
I give 1 star to the hot food cafeteria. Let me just warn you NO! Don’t even think about getting food here. It’s all vegetarian which made me quite excited & and like any strict vegan I still asked many questions. When I got home soon after to eat my food, is when all my troubles began. I had food poisoning for 3 – 4 days. It was my first and only meal of the day so I know it wasn’t from anything else I ate. The worst I’ve ever felt!
Come here to shop NOT eat!
You’ve been warned…

Ohmygah! This is pure bliss for someone that values good nutritional value of whatever it may be. Plenty of organic produce (apples are cheaper than anywhere else), but other stuff is similar to fairway and not too far off Manhattan prices.
It’s a very spacious store.
I tend to picture myself in an enchanted forest as I take my cart and fill it up with magical produce, I hum and hop and slide through other aisles filling it up with quinoa, almonds, all kinds of non dairy milk (by the way, how ever do they make almond milk if almonds don’t have nipples?), then i load up on organic chocolates, gluten free pasta, sauces, lots and lots of beans, dried fruit, toothpaste, deodorant, snack bars, essential oils and more.
It’s a magical place and letmetellyah, one cart is not enough. I fill up one cart, lug it to the register. Get another, fill that one up… one could never have enough bananas, just ask the banana girl herself!
Highly recommend! I always drop hundreds of dollars each time I come. I «make it rain» all over my carts.
So, if you’re a tree hugging, hemp wearing beyotch you’re gona love this place.
If you’re far from it, worry not… they have plenty of dairy and gluten.
I haven’t yet had the pleasure of tasting their bar food, but one day soon, especially with all the hearty winter dishes that are out.

I really love this place, I’ve been coming for years. The vegetarian lunch is great they have pretty much everything you could ask for. They sell my all time favorite shampoo & conditioner, Tate’s as well as a lot of other interesting smaller brands not offered in a whole foods. It also feels like you’re in a neighborhood store, not a whole foods-​esque store.

Great place, lots of selections, lots of unique items, but… it’s a bit pricey. I went for the first time and spent over an hour just checking out what items they have and I still missed the upper section. Staff was friendly and helpful.

This place boasts ‘fresh off the garden’ organic produce and lives up to the reviews of other patrons. The drawback of this place is that it’s expensive, which makes it difficult to be a frequent shopper or meet your entire grocery list on a practical budget. In fact, if you do price comparisons in other places, chances are, it’ll be cheaper for the same product or similar from another source. I’ll use the tart cherry concentrate from Dynamic Health as an example. A bottle cost $ 17.99 in Queens Health Emporium. I found that same bottle/​size for $ 11 somewhere else.
The customer service is mediocre, but they will help you, if you ask. Don’t expect the voluntary ‘can I help you?’ customer service like Wholefoods or Trader Joe’s, because they won’t. Overall, if you’re in the area and looking for super fresh produce (I love their kale!) it’s a complete place for vegetables, fruits, and supplements.

Great selection but cramped, narrow isles, & low ceiling (2^nd floor). The price seems pretty good. The staff were friendly, polite, & helpful. Definitely worth visiting.

Absolutely love this place but haven’t been here in a while so this visit (08/​10/​2013) was a real treat. Came to grab a bite and do a little shopping, more for the eats though.
I ordered the veggie brown fried rice with bok choy, chicken and soy duck. The bok choy was really fresh and well-​seasoned while the duck and chicken were tasty as well. For those who avoid spice, the duck has a little kick to it.
My friend ordered the veggie brown fried rice as well with chick peas, chicken and squash. She too was completely satisfied with her meal.
The food is consistently good, generous portions and a definite bargain for the price. While one order is usually enough for 2 meals for me, on this day I over ate and finished the entire serving in one sitting (burp).
Food is served for take-​out but they have a seating area upstairs and make cups of water available at no extra cost.
Parking can be a pain sometimes but we seemed to have lucked out as this was a Saturday afternoon and we had no problems getting a spot right out front.
As you can tell, this review is mainly for the hot food bar.

Upon my friend’s insistence, I went to Queens Health Emporium to check out their small cafeteria in the store. They serve 100% vegetarian-​friendly options in their hot bar and you can get a combo meal for under $ 10 which comes with a grain and two sides. During our first few trips, I was totally dazzled with the food and overall, the market is actually well stocked with an incredibly wide array of organic, rare brands.
But, once we got over the novelty of the store not to mention coming to the realization that the food is probably not the healthiest even though it is all vegetarian, I’ve begun to see some of the «cracks» and I now see a much less romanticized version of this place. A lot of the items are very expensive, for instance I saw a bottle of natural baby shampoo for $ 20! I get that natural products are sustainable for the earth and healthier for the baby, but $ 20 is not sustainable for the wallet on a regular basis. Of course this is just one example, but you might find a similar comparison with a great many other items within the store.
Overall, it’s a great little place to stop by and have a quick meal, and pick up some natural and organic products when you’re in the area, but don’t count on it being your new «go-​to» supermarket if you’re not some ultra vegan. It seems like it would just be impractical for a regular shopper.
