The Dr. James W. Thornton Dog Park is a beautiful membership-​based 1.5 acre park located in the Valley Animal Center complex at 3934 N. Hayston in Fresno, California.

The park occupies 1 ½ acres of grassy land, and features the following:

* Separate dog runs for canines under 25 pounds and over 26 pounds

* 2,000 gallon canine wading pool with water jets (for dogs only)

* A canine agility course with a variety of obstacles

* Several water stations that are filled with fresh water daily

* Toys of all varieties included in each run

* Doggie bag dispensers throughout the park

* Lockers provided for your personal items (Lock not included)

* Bathrooms, drinking fountains, and a beverage machine

All potential canine members must be spayed or neutered, up-​to-​date on their vaccinations, and temper.

History

Established in 2013.

The Dr. James W. Thornton Dog Park is a members-​only dog park and is a part of the Valley Animal Center, the Central Valley’s premier no-​kill shelter for dogs and cats and low-​cost spay, neuter, and vaccination clinic.

Been a member for about a month now. Love the cleanliness of the grounds and the park! Highly recommend bringing the dogs here they love it and the fact that it is not overly packed makes it great and less worrisome for the dogs.

I love all of the friendly dogs here. All of them are temperament tested and there’s a park manager on duty for the park’s active hours. The membership cost is cheap considering the areas they have to play and the giant infinity pool for the dogs. It’s completely private and secure. The people here all seem to love and honestly care about the animals there and consider the animal as well as the owner’s happiness.

I love taking my baby to this park! I absolutely love how all the dogs have to be fully vaccinated and behavioral tested before coming in because then I know my dog and the rest are safe. The pool is too cute for words and I love the obstacle course as well. This park is really great and worth the money! I recommend it to anyone that loves to see their dogs have a good time!

I honestly don’t understand why this park doesn’t have 5 stars. It’s the best park in all of Clovis and all of Fresno. I’ve taken my dog to literally every dog park in the area and none even compared to this park. It’s very clean, has an agility course, a small dog park, a big dog park, and pool!
Yes, your dog has to be neutered. Yes, your dog has to have all up-​to-​date shots. And no your dog will not be admitted if they are aggressive. I love their requirements! That just means my dog will not get anyone pregnant, he won’t contract a disease, and he’ll play with sweetest dogs. It only takes about 5 minutes to sign-​up and after that it is smooth sailing.
I can be there for hours and not notice how fast the time goes by. The park is filled with happy dogs and awesome owners.

I tried taking my husky to go play today, but its 25 $ for a year.
you have to have your records of vaccines (take them with you) and your dog has to be spayed. your dog cant be aggressive and has to have some training. For me we left because we dont have our dog spayed.
its very very picky and not worth the hassle just so my dog could play so i took her to a different dog park called Basin AH1 dog park. It’s simple yes, but you dont have to go through 25 min of papers to just let your dog play.

This dog park opened a few months ago and it’s pretty awesome! Everything is really clean and new. Great location, this part of fresno and clovis really needed a dog park!
There is a 20,000 gallon swimming pool with fountains (dogs only), a small and large dog area, and an agility course for dogs!
The park requires everyone to become a member to enter. The membership is $ 25 a year for two dogs. You can get a one day membership too. Dogs must also be up to date on all vaccinations. There is a pet clinic on site, which makes everything simple! Nice to know everyone there is a responsible pet parent.
There are dozens of dog toys at the park, small swimming pools filled with clean drinking water. The park provides bags for clean up.
My only complaint would be that there are not enough dogs there. I’ve only seen about 4 to 6 dogs there at a time, which makes it slightly boring.
