Manco Abbott Inc

I have lived in Manco Abbott properties for over 12 year’s and have always had prompt service in my apartment. They used to have a saying «service is a habit with Manco Abbott,» and service is definitely what I saw day in and day out. If you are looking for an apartment to rent, look no further than the Manco Abbott sign at the entrance of the property.

I can only assume Manco Abbott must be doing something right to have stayed in business all these years, and to have grown. I knew the company when it was just Manco, and I believe just getting started. I owned a condominium in a complex Manco managed, and as association president, I had many dealings with their office. The management seemed to know what they were doing, they just didn’t follow through. I sold the condo, moved on, and have not had to deal with a management company for over 30 years.
Recently I rented a tiny studio in SF and had dealings with another management company. I think there may just be a general rule for these companies… know a lot, do a little.

Many, many years ago (or 7, if you want to be exact), a friend and I rented an apartment that was owned/​managed by Manco Abbott. It was the WORST living arrangement either of us have ever been in.
After months of trying to live there with ants/​insects, a non-​working dishwasher, broken electrical outlets, trash floating around the complex, inadequate parking, etc., we were at our wit’s end. We were constantly being met with bizarre demands for money. (Ex. — they boarded off all of the patios in our section with wooden beams and caution tape without telling us why. Then, on the next month’s rent, they charged us an extra $ 30 because they claimed they had to re-​board our patio because we broke the boards down. Might just be me, but if someone says «Hey, don’t stand on this, it’s not safe», the last thing I’m going to do is break through to get to it.)
We finally gave up and went to Manco Abbott to meet with the people there and ask them to get out of our lease. (After being thrown back and forth between reps and even having them hang up on us numerous times.)
We were in the meeting with the corporate reps for all of five minutes. They asked us what we wanted, we told them «To be let out of our lease without any repercussions», they said «Fine. Draw up the paperwork.» and we were done. or so we thought.
We were given a Lease Termination Agreement, told to sign it and when we asked if we had to sign anything else, we were told No, they had everything they needed and we were settled.
Fast forward to about three weeks later — we were served with an eviction notice on the day we were moving out. Even after the Termination Agreement we signed, they still tried to charge us well over $ 5,000 for breaking the lease.
There were TONS of other problems, including them saying we never paid a pet deposit, them refusing to honor their promise of «We’ll fix it in 24 hours, or you get $ 25 off of your rent.», being charged incorrect amounts for rent (seriously, the amount changed month-​to-​month) and a whole bunch of other issues that I don’t have the time or inclination to get worked up over.
I’m sure you’re thinking I’m just a bad renter, or one of those people who don’t treat things nicely unless I own them. I’d have to refer you to my TWO BINDERS full of notices and correspondence with Manco Abbott to show you how bizarre this experience really was. They deny things that THEY gave us receipts for. We could show them proof, in their own handwriting, and they would still deny it.
Manco Abbott, take your crazy elsewhere. We’re all full here.
