Every tour is different. The rise and fall of the ever changing tidal and seasonal cycles develop a rhythm for all coastal life. Weather changes, lunar cycles, tides, currents, winds and waves; constantly changing, and with every breath of salt sprayed air we experience something different.
The level at which you’re ready to adventure, to spontaneously explore and heel over with the boat and be part of the dynamics of nature and you will grow as you become accustomed to the dynamics of sailing in the Pacific North West. Every sailing experience on Peniel is new, awakening us to our own place of awareness, learning, change and growth in the universe.
Tours range from the the hot springs of Doe Bay to sunsets with the whales on the West side of San Juan island to going ashore at the outer islands state parks. The skipper is Captain David Howitt from Cornwall and the boat is Peniel, a yellow cedar sloop built by the Prothero brothers 1956 in Seattle.
History
Established in 2013.
Knocks and footsteps round the house — whistles after dark —
You’ve no call for running out till the house-dogs bark.
Trusty’s here, and Pincher’s here, and see how dumb they lie
They don’t fret to follow when the Gentlemen go by !
‘If You do as you’ve been told, ‘likely there’s a chance,
You’ll be give a dainty doll, all the way from France,
With a cap of Valenciennes, and a velvet hood —
A present from the Gentlemen, along ‘o being good !
Five and twenty ponies,
Trotting through the dark —
Brandy for the Parson, ‘Baccy for the Clerk.
Them that asks no questions isn’t told a lie —
Watch the wall my darling while the Gentlemen go by !

My parents told me I was born on a beach and I know the trail to that beach was well trodden by a line of pirates, wreckers and smugglers. The rugged coastline of Cornwall was a dynamic place to grow up and explore and I saught to capture those experiences of the winter storms crashing waves and summertime emerald green snorkelling days through photography.
Sharing experiences, sharing lesons, sharing images and sounds. I believe it’s important to spend time close to whales, towards immersion with their culture and to gain stories which are important to share. The sailing boat Peniel allows me to take others into that environment, to witness and connect with the life we share this planet whose voice is so rarely heard, particulalry our close relatives of marine mammals.
