Don Ayres Honda

3 stars because I waited over 5 hours for my car to be looked at. I was told I had transmission problems, CV joint problems, and crankshaft problems in my 99 Accord EX model. After distastefully being told I should just find another vehicle without any true reasoning behind why… Or specific problems of the car (i.e. Why/​how to fix these problems, pricing of the fix) After paying 84 dollars to look at my car, the employee wouldn’t actually tell me what was wrong with it. I felt ripped off and treated unfairly. I felt like the service employee was trying to make me get a new car from the dealer. Regardless, I will not be returning to this business. I did not feel like I was wanted at your dealership. I did not feel like you were being honest.

Great overall experience. I live in Chicago and found a certified Odyssey Elite that I really liked for a good asking price. Anthony R. was very easy to work with. He even did a walk around of the car and sent a video because I didn’t want to drive out unless a deal was agreed upon. Negotiated a price both parties were comfortable with over email/​text. I came in to test drive the car, everything looked really good, and paperwork was completed relatively fast. Happy with my purchase and I would recommend Don Ayres to anyone. Best car buying experience I’ve had.

My family has been dealing with this location for a few years now. We have leased multiple cars here and every time is a great experience. We deal specifically with Darrin and I can’t thank him enough for always getting me in the car I want!
I went in over the weekend to trade in my leased 2013 civic for a 2016 cr-​v. After going back and forth with a few options and numbers, Darrin came through with the perfect car for me at the perfect price. He really wants to get people the car they want, and not just any car. I really appreciated his help. We got in and out in a few hours and didn’t waste a whole day.
I don’t see any reason to discontinue going back for my future vehicles!

The past couple months I’ve had three services done to my car. Each time Tony has been a great! My first visit was for a recall, I was in and out very quick with an appointment. Second visit was for a check engine light. Tony squeezed me in on Saturday last minute, it was about a two hour wait. Third visit was for an oil change which took about an hour with appointment but they washed my car! Tony even took the time to look up information on a new/​used tire and made a referral to a business in town which I used and their service was awesome too. This dealership has a comfortable waiting room with complementary coffee and soda, makes the wait so much easier.

I purchased a new Honda Civic from Shaun, he was wonderful to deal with and even delivered the car to my work. Service was prompt and I was satisfied with minor work aka. oil changes, however I needed my brakes worked on in less than 2 years after purchasing the vehicle and that was rather pricey. In my opinion the brakes should not have needed rooters and pads after only such a short time with low mileage. Just saying!

This is not a rating on the dealership as a whole, just one really annoying issue.
If you buy a car here from Rick Kruger, DO NOT give him your phone number. He will call you every single year on your birthday for the rest of his life. I used him to buy out my lease 5 or 6 years ago and he calls me EVERY YEAR. To the point that I expect it and it makes me mad before my birthday even comes. This year he called me the day before AND the day after and left me the exact same message. Ya know, cause #YOLO.
So I didn’t buy my car from him (again, I just used him to fill out paperwork to buy out the lease). I do not live in the state anymore. And I don’t even own this car anymore. I can’t. get rid. of this nuissance of a salesman calling my cell phone every year on a supposedly happy day with his sales pitch.

I just purchased my second vehicle from Don Ayres. I am not a Honda fan, but that’s not an issue. Their selection of used cars is vast and has high quality. Use the website to shop ahead of time. Ed, JT, and Carlo are some of the most honest and upfront car sales staff I’ve ever worked with in Fort Wayne. I never thought I was being pressured and they really took the time to get me what I wanted.

We had been looking for a Honda Element for about a month. We found one online at Don Ayres Honda in Fort Wayne. I emailed about 9:00 in the morning and received a reply about 10 minutes later. I called to ask about the car and spoke with Jeff Gilmore. He was professional, knowledgeable and immediately took a video of the car and emailed it to me. Could not have asked for better communication. My concern was driving 2 hours to the dealership and the car would not be available, so we put a down payment on the car while on the way there and when we arrived Jeff was waiting at the door for us. The car was better than expected and we had looked at a lot of them! Jeff was very easy to work with, kind, sincere and we felt comfortable. We would definitely drive two hours to buy another car from this dealership. Could not have been a better experience.

Great service and great prices that can’t be beat! Bought my Honda Accord there and had a very easy car buying experience. Highly recommend

My wife and I had an extremely frustrating experience trying to purchase a used car from these jokers. Over several weeks they repeatedly lied to us and tried to exploit what I suppose they perceived as our naivety. Luckily we did our due diligence, and realized that they were unwilling to sell us the vehicle if they couldn’t somehow also take advantage of us in the process.
There were lots of examples of this kind of behavior, not only in negotiating the price, but also regarding the vehicle’s condition. There were a number of problems with the car, but they refused to drop the price to cover even half the repairs that would be needed. They offered to perform some (not all) of the repairs at their own shop, but when pressed for more detail, the repairs they were willing to do were only stop-​gap bandaids rather than long-​term repairs, and they were not willing to warrant their own repairs.
The day after we walked away, we found a newer, lower-​mileage car of the same model, in near-​perfect shape, for a significantly better price, at a dealership in another town 20 miles away. Well worth the trip. Wish we hadn’t wasted our time here first.

Our battery died and so we lost access to our sound and nav system… unfortunately we didn’t have the codes. Went to their service center. Everyone was friendly and they took us right in and had us up and running in no time. They didn’t even charge us. Great experience.

I purchased a 2004 Acura TL from Don Ayers October 31, 2012 and I’m not happy with their service at all.
I dealt with Darren Bickel, who was somewhat pleasant to work with, but the more I think about it the more it seems like a «wolf in sheeps clothes» sort of deal. I admit that I should have taken more time getting the car checked out and researching things, but I had totaled my previous car and I was in somewhat of a rush to buy this car. I will list some of the things that I did not like about the experience and try to explain in detail.
The first thing that annoyed me was the fact that they want to tell you as little as possible about the car. This car was previously owned by another worker, and they did agree to print off a carfax for me (which I had already viewed online). Sometimes on the CarFax it states that the car was brought in for service but doesn’t indicate what service was done. Since some of the service was done at Don Ayers I asked if they have a detailed service record of what was done to the car. The seller’s response was somewhere along the lines of «I have no idea».
Secondly, the car had 103,000 miles on it. In the Honda industry, you should be very familiar with the 105,000 mile service, which includes changing the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, etc. This service costs about $ 1000-​$ 1500 if you get it don at Don Ayers. However, I had never owned a Honda before and was unaware that this service would need to be completed immediately after purchasing the car, since it was at 103k already. They did not tell me this at the time of purchase even though there is no way a Honda dealer wouldn’t know that this services needed to be completed. They were listing the car for RETAIL price, however. Which would have meant everything was perfect on the car. This car was nowhere near perfect, considering it would need about $ 1500 in maintenance in the near future. And the inside of the car was pretty beat up as well (seller scoffed at me when I asked if the car had been detailed before putting it up for sale).
Thirdly, I ended up purchasing the car for about 1500 under what they were asking, so you’d think even if I needed to get the 105k service done it would still be a pretty good deal, right? WRONG!
Upon driving the car home that day, I realized that it was shimmering going into 3^rd and 4^th gear. I was unaware at the time but this is common in Acura TLs when the transmission is beginning to give out. So I scheduled an appointment a few days later with the service department to have it checked, I was also experiencing a grinding noise every now and then when shifting. They drove the car and said they couldn’t find anything wrong. I told them that the transmission fluid was brown and they said «well changing the fluid would probably be a good idea». So come to find out the fluid hadn’t been changed in over 50,000 miles. In TLs you’re supposed to change it every 15−20k because of the way the transmissions are built and the fluid breaks down quickly. Instead of doing the drain and fill which is recommended by the manual and every other car mechanic I’ve ever talked to, they tell me they’ve never heard of a drain and fill and they did a transmission flush. From what other mechanics have told me this is a terrible thing to do to an aging transmission.
So this had all happened within a week of getting the car. The transmission has been shifting better now that the fluid has been changed, but who knows what type of damage has already been done. Let me also list everything that has been replaced within the first month or so of owning the car:
–Timing belt
–serpentine belt
–water pump
–spark plugs
— air filter
–cabin filter
–power steering o-​ring (power steering still squeals when it’s cold outside)
This brings me to my last point of contention.
When buying the car I noticed that the tires were a bit worn but looked as though they could last another year or so. When taking the car to Tuffy for an oil change 3 weeks ago (as of now I refuse to spend another dime at Don Ayers) and tire rotation, I was informed that ALL FOUR tires were separating and the belt was sticking out of the tire. The owner of Tuffy told me that I’m lucky I’m not DEAD from all 4 tires blowing up on the highway! This is all documented on my sales records.
So to make a long story short, in a car that Don Ayers was selling for full retail price, I ended up paying $ 150 for Don Ayers to flush the transmission, I paid $ 700 for 4 new tires and an alignment, about $ 800 for the 105k service which I got done at an independent mechanic but it would have cost about $ 1500 at Don Ayers. LUCKY i’m not dead from my tires separating. I’m not sure if it is legal to sell somebody a car in this condition.
BUYER BEWARE!!!

I got my civic here and its still running awesome. Never had a problem and took in once for my ABS recall part to be fix. The will notify you anything that needs to be done. My mom hustled my ’06 civic for $ 17k (bought in ’05) and now im almost done with my payments=) Great service and dealing here!
