City Pointe Apartments

Seeing that there are a lot of mixed reviews, Ill say there are pros and cons to this place, and a lot of the cons written here are people being dramatic. Its clean, and the apartment itself is pretty nice. I will say that I overall enjoyed living here and would continue to do so if I didnt already know the rent will hike up, and external noise.
The drunk people walking around weekend nights don’t bother me much. But every morning, roughly at 7 am this stupid garbage truck comes by and is LOUD, and right outside my window by the citi bank. I wish I could post a video so you can see how ridiculous it is. I would definitely suggest an apartment with your balcony facing the inside of the community. It is pretty entertaining where my apartment is, though. Every once in a while you’ll catch a hobo fight, or the bank security guard trying to diffuse a person flying off the handle.
Citi bank also did upgrades on the backside of their building which resulted in me fighting with them about in their loud construction that went on until 2 am every night (when I had to be up at 5).
Oh we also have a problem with our plumbing. We had a leaky toilet and fridge when we moved in as well as a backed up kitchen sink once (all repaired very quickly by maintenance) and our bathroom sink and tub backs up still.
I guess my point is that city pointe itself is a nice place to live, but the price of living in a downtown area is taxing and should be heavily considered when considering to move here. The location is great for going out for dinner/​drinks and not having not worry about driving home, though

First of all, all the negative comments make me laugh. Especially about the place being dirty, I don’t even understand. I been living here for 2 years now and haven’t had a problem. They clean the areas very well, its what the tenants do to it because it is dog/​cat friendly.
This place is honestly one of the best places to rent regardless of prices. Rent is high every where. What I like about this place is they do their best to respond to comments, inquires or questions. Also, this is a smaller complex compared to others.
When we first moved in, many things kept breaking but they fixed it ASAP. The only dumb thing was the tenant above me thought it was smart to drain water off their balcony which went through into my water heater and broke it. Maintenance figured it out when they were trying to fix our water.
I never have a problem parking except during business hours when people try to park in the tenant spots on the ramps, but the parking lady comes anyways. And security checks the garage parking from time to time.
LASTLY…I read comments about people saying tenants are rude, ITS CALLED LIFE. You will meet so many rude people everywhere you go. What do you expect? People to be nice everywhere? Also its called Southern California haha… I have met very rude tenants, but I am not going to blame City Pointe for that. There are very nice people who live in the complex, I’m sure the people who complain haven’t run into them yet, because I have :)

I’ve been here for almost 2 weeks. Place looked great staff was nice but as soon as I moved in everything came out. Neighbors are rude and disrespectful. Parking under ground is for residents only. There’s more parking passes then there are parking so it’s a first come first park kind of deal. I was told I wouldn’t ever have issues finding parking. Now I have to pull out one car n park another just to have a parking. I’m not looking forward to living here for the next 12 months.

First of all, I’m fairly picky! I’ve lived in a few different locations and found that I either didn’t feel safe, or felt that the accommodations didn’t match the rent I was shelling out each month. That being said, I absolutely LOVE City Pointe Apartments. I adore Kim in the Leasing Office — she has made my moving in transition (I’m new to the area) seamless. The maintenance team — especially Jesse — is incredible. They’re quick, clean, and super knowledgeable on what may be the issue with any appliances that may act up. My ONLY complaint would have to be the neighbors. Maybe I have just been lucky enough to live in friendly areas before but the people here SUCK. They’re rude, stand-​off-​ish, and seem to leave their dogs alone all day (i.e. loads of barking, whining, crying). Other than that, I love the place!

I have lived at the City Pointe for a few months. I honestly don’t agree with negative reviews here. Yes the rent is expensive, but I can tell you it is worth it compared to what other apartment communities are charging. I am paying a few hundred bucks more than my old place, but in return I am getting a more secure location, a bigger place, and washer and dryer in the unit.
The homeless issue has decreased over the years. I also work in the area so I have seen the population that has been mentioned but FPD has made progress to clean this certain section of town.
The only fire alarms I’ve heard has been during the testing. The other luxury complexes in the area have similar complaints of fire alarms going off. If you investigate, the causes are usually idiots trying to sneak a smoke in the stairways or elevators. I’m sure there have been times when some drunkards pull the alarm, but that shouldn’t be on the management.
Speaking of which, the management has been friendly and helpful whenever I’ve contacted them. Service orders are handled very timely.
There are times when you can hear loud people coming home from the bars, but the location is right in the heart of downtown and should be expected. Plus I have only experienced this on some weekends, not all week. I will say, however, that my unit is inside facing the pool so probably more an issue for the units with street or park views.
Only reason this isn’t a five star is because I seemed to get unlucky with my upstairs neighbor. I can hear her stomp around all day and it gets under my skin. Try to get on the fifth floor.

I would give this apartment 0 stars if it would let me. I’ve lived here for roughly 4 months now. The size is hardly worth the 2300+ you pay per month for a 2 bed 2 bath. Fire alarm is constantly going off. Management thought it would be a good idea to do a fire alarm maintenance during the work week rather then have it done during the weekend. Alarm is sounding of every 30 seconds or so for 5 hours straight. Apparently they do this test once per year. Already having issues with toilets and water leakage. And apparently it’s our fault. Will not re-​up, highly advise others thinking about moving here to move else where. I can’t wait till my year is up. Only 8 more months.

I’ve lived in these «luxury apartments» for 2 years now and all I could tell you is that the leasing office staff are the worst type of employees you could ever encounter. They are polite, kind, and interested when you are about to sign the lease, after you do, they start with their carelessness and restrictive policies. Every year they pull out a new rule like no smoking, no swimming past a certain time, no dog breeds, and the rent is WAY overpriced. The area is seriously disgusting, there is no other way to describe it. I guarantee you, ask any resident of City Pointe or go see for yourself, there are crackheads, drug dealers, and occasional gang members right at your doorstep. Even worse, they all reside right behind the apartment complex. They’ve broken into cars and even abused a resident once, it’s terrible and disgusting. The leasing office has done little to nothing about this nor does the useless leasing manager seem to care what’s going on in or around her community. I urge you not to be deceived by the modern looks and amenities of this place. You’ll enjoy your first month or so but after that you’ll feel like you’re in a prison because of all the restrictions they impose. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, I should have took the previous reviews into consideration and ignored this place. Oh by the way, once a year, the ear-​exploding fire alarms go off for over an hour everyday forcing you to evacuate. There are other luxury apartments around the area, AVOID THIS ONE. Trust me on this.

The complex itself is populated by drunk and screaming college kids so expect to hear them stumbling down the halls at night shouting as they find their way to their door. My front door was egged on Halloween night and my front door mat was stolen in the middle of the night a few months after I moved in: classy individuals.
The fire alarms go off constantly, and they are all linked, so if one goes off the entire building goes off and the fire department has to be called to turn them off. They will go off in the afternoon, in the middle of the night, anytime.
There is a church on the back side of the complex and homeless people congregate there. They will urinate in the parking garage, break into the cars in the parking garage, and scream obscene things at you as you walk by them.
They increase the rent by hundreds of dollars if you want to resign your lease; it’s cheaper to move than to stay.
The only thing good about this place is the farmers market once a week on Thursdays and the location being close to Downtown Fullerton and all its shops and restaurants.

I can’t say enough great things about the office staff. They are always friendly and courteous!
The building itself is always clean, and meticulously cared for. The parking is completely secured as well as the building itself. The security that patrols the building and grounds are very professional, polite and really do care about your safty.
Our apartment was very clean, handsomely finished with great quality appliances and nice carpet.
One of he few drawbacks to the property is the elevators. There are only 2 for the entire building and are not very strategically placed. If your apartment is on the back half of the building, I strongly suggest investing in a hand cart for groceries and/​or goods you’ll need to haul from your apartment to your car. I would also suggest hiring movers, and tip them well.
The park next to the building is pretty, but at night the vagrancy there and in the area can be scary while out walking your dog. I wish they could put a dog run/​area inside the property itself.
The location is mostly great but also the reason why I did not give the property more than a 3 star review. Although conveniently located downtown, its very very very noisy, and unsafe. I can only assume the only quiet units are the ones that are in the courtyard. The back side of the build (alley facing where we rented on the highest 5^th floor) is so ridiculously loud. The trash trucks at 7 & 8 am, seven days a week crash and bang will have you jumping awake startled. Been here almost 8 months and just can’t get use to it.
Also, the bars will play music and when they get out at 2 am, that’s not so great. Intoxicated people screaming, yelling and fighting all weekend long. (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) this of course is not City Points fault and in no way do I blame them for anything outside of the property. But its beyond acceptable noise to have to live with. Then there’s the church bells that go off every hour on the hour. And also chime on the half hour. The ringing is ear piercing. We had complained to the city and even contacted the church. Alas, nothing could be done.
If the noise wasn’t so bad we would renew our lease, but the property management is why we will strongly consider one of their other properties.

I have lived at City Pointe (CP) for 4 years. No apartment is perfect, but there are a few «old-​timers» here like me that feel this is the best in downtown Fullerton. I’m plugged into the community and have paid attention to the trends inside and outside the building.
Positives consistent over four years:
1. Great location
2. Attractive, high-​quality colors, materials and appliances
3. Excellent maintenance and janitorial service
4. Beautiful grounds (pool, hot tub, BBQ, fitness and game rooms).
Positives that used to be negatives:
1. There is now a really nice market on the first-​floor; so convenient, good service, great hours, free delivery, truly awesome you don’t have to drive to Ralph’s anymore for all the necessities!
2. The homeless situation has markedly improved in the last few months. Our property manager (PM), Jen, helped lobby the City Council to pass an ordinance curtailing loitering and other activity in the parking lot which occupies the first floor. We’ve all endured screaming, public defecation, trespassing, vandalism, rampant drug use, aggressive panhandling, and all the other problems one might expect in an urban location. In the last 6 months, however, this activity has fallen probably 80%, and most of the instigators have moved on. Will the peace last? I don’t know. But we have an engaged PM, the best security force we’ve had, and finally the civic will in the City Council and Fullerton PD to tackle this complex issue.
3. Management. I started with Stephanie, who was beloved by all. Then came Jon – nice guy but he might not have been up to the task. Now we have Jen. Jen is a fixer. She can rub people the wrong way, but she was sent to do one job: clean this place up. It had gotten frayed over the last 3 years. Since Jen came, everything runs tighter. She’s trying to do more community activities, she’s brought in new services, everything is in better repair, landscaping is noticeably nicer. Her job is to enforce the rules and keep things running tight. I’ve been on the wrong side of her a couple times, but I still respect the job she’s doing.
4. Underground parking is still tight, although mgmt regularly replaces permits to ensure only authorized vehicles park. It’s better than it used to be
Negatives that used to not be negatives:
1. Smoking: CP went smoke-​free in 2012. Many still smoke – some follow the rules, some don’t. A less-​intrusive policy, like restricting smoking to inside apartments only, could have made better sense, and would have made us all feel like adults.
2. Cost: I’ve talked to many who moved out because of rent increases, yet some get only modest increases. The local rental market is intense and increasing 5−7% annually, so high increases make sense but still suck. I started at $ 1430/​mo, then $ 1515, $ 1595, now $ 1643, and I just received an offer for a 7% increase. With the high water/​sewer/​trash charges, is the apt worth over $ 1800/​mo? CP resembles corporate housing (some units are actually dedicated to this purpose). It feels like they’re happy to have you for 1 year, and then expect you to move out to make way for someone else. Maybe that’s the way every upscale apt is… Unfortunately, this fuels #2 in the next section:
Negatives consistent over 4 years:
1. It can be noisy, especially on the south side, especially on weekends right around 1:30AM. I have worn earplugs sometimes to sleep, even with blackout blinds and two curtains.
2. Fire alarms: We had a lot in 2011, then a bunch in 2014. Mgmt sometimes blames it on smokers. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though. From what I know and have seen, this building has some overly sensitive – perhaps defective – sensors, both inside apts and in hallways. Tobacco smoke should never trigger a smoke alarm – period. Normal cooking shouldn’t, either. Mgmt seems to have put a lot of resources in to fix the problem, but it may be bigger than they’ll admit, or fix. Some alarms may have been set intentionally, too. It’s been quieter the last few months, though.
2. Lack of community feeling: The market, the hot tub and the elevators are where you’ll meet people. You’re probably not going to know your neighbors. My idea of a Social Committee that would plan and resource events, sanctioned by the PM, hasn’t been taken up. Most of us are professionals in our 20s and 30s. Many are transplants. We may not have a lot of friends here. There are a lot of cool people I know here, but there’s a lot of cool people I’ve never met or even seen. If we had closer ties, we might be more willing to put up with more in order to stay.
As overall nice as CP is, people don’t feel very rooted here. If they feel insulted when they get $ 100 rent increases, some rationalize their decision to move by stressing the flaws, which in reality are modest, managed appropriately, and improving. I will probably not renew for a 5^th year due to the cost, but it’s been a great experience. I wouldn’t have wanted to live anywhere else.

Although is is one of the nicest «looking» places in Fullerton, here are some reasons why this place is outrageous:
1. The amount of homeless people that surrounds the property is crazy, I often feel unsafe.
2. I literally saw a man’s penis (not sure if he was homeless) because he was peeing out in the open lawn area.
3. It being CHRISTMAS … or the holidays… its really sad to see all the letters from family out in the mail lobby area. The staff here do not care one bit about mail and the fact that if it gets to the right tenant. I BRING THIS UP BECAUSE I LITERALLY SAW A BUNCH OF CHRISTMAS LETTERS OUT IN THE OPEN BECAUSE THEY ARE PUT IN WRONG BOXES. NOW I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE STAFF DO NOT PUT THE MAIL IN BOXES BUT THE POST OFFICE DOES BUT HERE IS THE PROBLEM… as a person who has MANAGED a 600+ resident apartment… AND ITS MAIL ROOM, we made sure that the RIGHT MAIL GOES IN THE RIGHT BOX! OR EVEN CHECK IF THAT PERSON LIVES IN THAT APARTMENT #.
4. Staff here are so fake!

I don’t even think this place even deserves a star.
From the crack heads who wander the parking garage to the poor management skills.
I have lived here just over 6 months, and am putting in my 30 days.
The current manager Jen is terrible, I have a service animal due to medical conditions.
She made a comment to me about the fact she is sick of other tenants in the complex asking her why a bully breed is allowed to be allowed. She acted as if because I have this dog for medical purposes I was a burden because of the breed of my animal.
It is completely outrageous.
I do not recommend anyone to live here, unless they enjoy poor management and screaming homeless people.

I have lived here since ²⁄₂₀₁₄ so I can’t address any concerns about rent renewal increases but I have sincerely enjoyed living at City Pointe.
Any time I had a service request, the issue is resolved immediately. The requests have been for the normal issues such as low battery in fire detector, light bulb changes, etc. Kim is always my go-​to person at City Pointe.
The grounds are clean in my opinion and I always run into the security guards at night when they’re out patrolling. They definitely make their rounds around the interior and exterior areas of the complex.
I must admit the panhandling situation in the parking garbage did get a bit out of control for a couple of months. The same group of kids asked for money everyday from when I left for work and when I returned home and it was becoming a nuisance. It was only occurring in one area of the parking garage though where a lot of traffic would be coming in and out from Starbucks and FedEx. However, that problem was addressed and the area where they were sitting has been closed off. I haven’t had any issues since. I personally didn’t complain but it seems others did and the issue was resolved.
Also, there have been no noise concerns from where my apartment is located. I have NEVER heard any loud parties nor have even heard a peep from my neighbors.
The location is great, the amenities are amazing… there’s a dry cleaning service available! And as for the price… the apartment is located right in downtown, which is amazing. You get what you pay for. I looked at other apartments in South County for the same price or more and would have received far less and been in an isolated, boring area.
City Pointe is a great place to live if you want that upscale, downtown feel. There’s really nothing greater than being able to walk to neighboring restaurants, enjoying a couple of drinks, maybe some music and walking right back home.

concerns were addressed… apreciate it

I moved in just about three weeks ago and the apartment itself is great. Layout is awesome, lots of closet space and not to mention full sized washer and dryer. The amenities are great, you can time it perfectly and have the gym completely to yourself.
My only complaint is the people in the surrounding areas. As a young woman, my safety is very important to me. One evening while I was taking my dog out to use the restroom I had a man ask me if I wanted to get into his car with him. I had never met this man in my life, clearly his intentions were not the greatest. The homeless and kids who do drugs in the neighboring plaza are also a bit frightening. Since living here I have had to carry pepper spray with me when I take my dog out for my own peace of mind after the incidents that I have had happen in the three weeks I have lived here.
Granted, these are not issues with the apartments themselves but the neighboring area. Either way, my safety is my main concern and I will be seeing to get out of my lease as soon as possible.

City Pointe is in a great location, in the heart of downtown Fullerton. It’s fun to live in a nice apartment community, walking distance from the bars and restaurants nearby. The common areas are nice too, very clean, and well maintained. The pool is beautifully located in the center of the community, and always clean, which is important to me. These are all reasons I recommend City Pointe.
However, the new office manager, in my opinion, is not flexible and here’s why. I have lived here for almost two years with a perfect rent payment history, all payments in full and on time. Rent is due no later than the fourth of each month, which landed on the Fourth of July last month. So due to the holiday and visiting family, it skipped my mind and I ended up making payment one day late, on the fifth of July. Needless to say I was charged a late fee. I later asked the office manager for a one-​time courtesy fee waiver and was shot down immediately. No consideration was given to my perfect payment history, or that payment was due on a holiday, which never happens. I am a branch manager of a local bank in Fullerton, and I know customer service and when it makes sense to issue a client a courtesy waiver. This office manager gave me no respect. And actually now that I think about it, the manager declined my fee waiver request via email, and did not return my phone call. Anyways that’s my soapbox on that.
Overall City Pointe is an excellent and fun place to live. And if you like Downtown Fullerton, I say go for it!

Everyone is so nice! The place is well maintained. The location is close to different freeways. Easy access to bars and restaurants. The amenities are cool with a pool, media/​theater, game room and fitness center. They have BBQ and a zen relaxing area. The parking is secure and the prices are decent. I plan on staying here for awhile. The office staff; Kim, Betsy and Jason are the coolest down to earth people you’ll ever meet. The layouts are perfect.

Do I have to give a star?
So most would think this comes from an unreasonable, disgruntled resident that just moved out. Actually, I moved out in November 2013 and let it settle first in order not to write things in anger. Here we go…
In total, I lived at City Pointe for 2 years. I moved in right before the manager changed from Stephanie to Jon. Stayed in the same apartment, never failed to pay my rent on time, was a good tenant. I’m working full time and attend school full time — so I don’t party. I lived on the second floor and experienced exactly what another person described. The people above me were super loud. However, they did not only walk loud, they also yelled and screamed. Complaints to the new manager, Jon, totally pointless — couldn’t care less. I guess Stephanie had a different way of dealing with things. So, since this wasn’t going to change, I just dealt with it.
When I first moved in, my rent for a 1BR was about $ 1400 — a decent price for what I got. After a year that went up to $ 1600…wow, don’t they love their tenants. I stayed because I can’t move every year and I loved my place nevertheless. But then, trouble really started…
— Grounds weren’t maintained. Plain and simple just dirty. Cockroaches not just in trash areas. In stairways and elsewhere. Simply disgusting.
— though you get parking, it’s unassigned. Meaning there were times I got home after 12 hours of work and I didn’t find parking. Because they didn’t keep track on who was allowed to be parked underground in the garage. The security guy — useless. He was changed so many times… ridiculous.
— talking about security guy. In June 2013, they actually had several cars, that we’re parked in the gated garage broken into. The management didn’t even have the courtesy to notify tenants. Had to find out from security by chit chatting…
— then security changed again. This time to this huge, bulky guy. Looks scary. Problem, he is very social and talkative but not patrolling. Found myself in the situation of running into strangers lingering in front of my door, that should’ve not been there couple times. Security — nowhere to be found…
— when it came to renew again, they raised rent to almost $ 1800?!? Really? With a neighbor whose dogs barked 24/​7, and probably tried to eat through the wall… After multiple complaints nothing done but yet you want to raise my rent yet again? Wow… Crazy talk.
— I tell them, I’m leaving… starting that day on, even ruder than before. Not helpful, trying to charge for painting the whole wall for thumb tags. Trying to even go the ‘we might need to install new carpet route’. Elsewhere they call this fraud. They stepped away from these charges, because they knew they were ridiculous.
I could go on and on and on. Bottom line. The apartment, the layout — I loved. The management — especially Jon, some kind of person. Really? Customer service — no clue. Worst ever. Living there — worst ever. Total rip off. Prices are so high, bunch of college kids room in together, constant loud parties. Glad I don’t live there anymore. Oh btw, all ammenities — yes pool and such are nice. But only till 10 or 6 if you want the game room. Plus sign here and there… It’s nit worth the trouble. City Pointe costs more in the long run, and it is not worth it. Stay away from it!

Updating this since I sent a letter to «resident relations» at corporate. I was contacted by a regional manager letting me Stephanie would respond to me by Tuesday (since they are now closed Sundays and Mondays). Spoke to Stephanie who was terse, and was told I would receive a check from Atlanta in 21 business days. No explanation, nothing. To anyone who is moving out, please take a look at my previous review and if your security deposit is not refunded to you, do not give up! The law protects tenants from abuses by the landlord/​leasing company so know what you are entitled to! That marks the end of my crusade against Equity Residential Inc.

As first looks go, City Pointe is great. That’s how they sold us on this place. The layouts, the square footage, the amenities were all outstanding. Even the location was exciting… for a while.
The longer we stayed, the more the flaws revealed themselves. Of course they initially take you on a walk-​through of a vacant apartment that has no one remotely nearby because they don’t want you to hear how poorly soundproofed anything is. We can hear everything our neighbors on all sides do… and I mean everything. If there is a maintenance related issue at hand you can count on it being addressed several days after you’ve notified management. They’re simply inept. City Pointe is also near a couple colleges and a high school, so we’re constantly having to endure the 18 – 21 year old move ins that come and go for a few agonizingly party ridden semesters at a time.
Our 2 year lease is just about up and we were being persuaded by the newest and weakest addition to the «management» team to stay on for another year at $ 300 off our monthly rent. Isn’t that blatantly disclosing that they were grossly overcharging us? Needless to say we won’t be renewing here. We did have a lot of good times and made some great memories but as time went on and the façade was chipped away we realized that we were deceived. Rookie mistake. As a couple starting a life together we are now a little older and wiser when it comes to renting property. With any luck our next place will be just as luxurious but far better managed and tenanted by people who have to pay their own rent.
If City Pointe is a complex you’re considering… think again! Smoke and mirrors my friends. Smoke and freakin’ mirrors.
