Terry’s Automotive

I have been to Terry’s twice now and both times have gone as smooth as possible. Prices are fair and their work has been top notch. Definitely recommend making them your go-​to mechanic.

I came in there with my check engine light on. I thought it would be an expensive repair like a sensor or something. Turns out I foolishly just did not have enough oil in my car. All they charged me for was the oil change. Really seemed honest. I’ll be going back for my next car issue for sure.

We’ve been taking our cars to Terry’s Automotive since the 1990’s and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. They were recommended by a family member in the automotive business who knows good service when they see it. Matt and Terry are very knowledgable and honest. They explain what they are fixing and why it needs to be fixed. I have never had them add extra fees or try to pressure me into buying or fixing something that was not necessary. Yes, there are days when they are very busy and might seem a little short, but I totally understand in this business there will be those days. They have NEVER been rude to me or my family. Sometimes they have even made accomodations when they are visibly extremely busy. Just like a good doctor or dentist, it’s hard to find honest business people nowadays that are keepers. I’m fortunate that I’ve found a «keeper» in Terry’s Automotive!

Awesome!!! Its 2016 and they are still great! I am not sure of the negative remarks? I was there this Morning and dropped off my Impala. This is a great Place! I have been to dealerships and other car repair shops an got the run around on list of items to be fixed. This place is a honest. Its the best place in Fullerton! I have had service done there before and my car runs great after my service there. Matt and Terry seem to always find out the problem. I would recommend this shop to all my friends.

I will never go here again after such unprofessional and unethical business standards. I can’t believe people can be this rude Matt & Terry and try to price gouge prices to customers. It shows that it only takes one person to destroy the reputation of a great company. I am sure there are plenty of great honest people there, but Matt is the most untrustworthy person. Very sad.
He doesn’t have the right equipment to test any type of German car… he just opened up my hood & THOUGHT he found the problem (& my car broke down again same day) my car was there 6 days & found out he cannot fix my car… you can never trust Matt or Terry they cannot even do basic diagnostic. It’s a guessing game

My husband and I have been in Fullerton for over a week, house sitting for my daughter. We had planned on driving home on Saturday, but Thursday evening our car started making a horrible noise, putting out smoke and smelled very hot. What to do and where to take it in an unfamiliar city? ??? With a recommendation via text from my daughter, we called Terry’s and talked to Matt. He was great and so accommodating! We had car towed in and knowing they were really busy, we figured we’d probably have to rent a car, drive 6 hours home then come back in a few days to get the car. We were amazed and thrilled when Matt called to let us know our car would be ready before closing! This place is awesome and we can’t thank Matt enough for getting our car in and fixed on such a busy day !

I had heard from other people that Terry’s was a great place to have your vehicle serviced, but after my first experience with them, I will never go back.
I am not super savvy when it comes to auto mechanics, but I am not an idiot either. I took my Jeep in to get it serviced because it wouldn’t start. I thought it was an electrical issue because fuel was getting to my engine, but it would just crank over, but not ignite.
So I had the car towed to Terry’s thinking they were a great local mechanic based on the reviews I have heard. However, I was wrong. I had them run a diagnostic on the vehicle, but they way I was treated by one of their service reps was horrible. He treated me terribly and made me feel dumb. For some reason, the anti-​theft was engaged on the car when it had arrived at his shop and he made me feel like it was my fault and that he was working on a stolen vehicle. I don’t a lot about that, but that is no way to speak to a customer. He was very rude the way he spoke to me and said I had to get a spare key to reset it.
The next day, I bring in the key, and they were able to reset it and run a diagnostic to figure out why the car wouldn’t start. it turned out that my crank shaft position sensor had gone out. He calls me at work and says it would cost $ 350 to fix it. Immediately, I was surprised by how much he was quoting. Like I said, I am not super savvy when it comes to auto repair, but I know enough to know when prices like that don’t feel right. I had a gut feeling that that was extremely high so I immediately did some research and I am glad I did. It turned out that the average cost for the part was around $ 50 – 60. I called him back and asked him why he was charging so much. He said the part was $ 180. I called him out on it and said that is shouldn’t be that much. He said they only get the best parts and don’t do any knock offs. At that point, I knew he was lying to me and didn’t trust him anymore. I can’t believe how unprofessional and shady he was. It is one thing to make a honest mistake, but when you come out and boldly lie to a customer about something that is a totally different story.
I told him to not work on the vehicle and that I would have it towed to a different mechanic. I am very happy I did. It turned out that I was right. The part was in fact around $ 60 and I was able to get the problem fixed for only $ 150. That is less than half for what I would have paid for Terry’s to fix it.

I was turned on to this mechanic by coworkers, mostly female. Our company has a Fleet Manager who maintains our co. vehicles mostly by himself, but as needed goes to Terry’s. Good referral right there.
As I’ve needed repairs and maintenance done, big and small, I ask around as to who goes where. The ladies at the office all go to Terry’s with confidence! I’ve always found it intimidating (being a not-​mechanically inclined female) going to a repair place and being at the mercy of whatever they told me I needed. Twice I have taken 2 different cars to other places, gotten a quote, stating I’d have to check finances and get back to them. Went to Terry’s and one time the problem was not what the other place told me, and the other time Terry’s was ½ the price. Totally confident with them — not going anywhere else.
One more thing — the extra mile. I took my car in for an oil change this week and picked it up about noon. Later in the day I took a break to run an errand and when I got back in the car, I couldn’t get my key to turn. I called and talked to Matt, told him the situation and that I wondered if I got towed to their shop if it was something they could fix or did I need to take it to the dealer (I was thinking my ignition was shot). He asked where I was, I was less than a mile away, so he told me to hold on and he’d be RIGHT OVER!!! Who does that!!! Good, ol’ plain ol’ great service shops with GREAT customer service still do! My key was worn out by the way, he got my car started, suggested I use my spare and get a new spare made off of my spare. Done.
I can’t say enough good things about this place and their performance and customer service.

Stopped in because I heard a rattling noise in my 04 Subaru. The guy spent 45min fixing the problem and didn’t charge me a cent. That’s unheard of for a mechanic.

Terry’s is a gem. Pep Boys gave me a $ 1600 estimate on repairs but when I took it to Terry’s for a second opinion they fixed everything for $ 70 in less than three hours. They’re fast, thorough, and the guys are all really friendly and hilarious. I will never take my car anywhere else.

If you’re looking for quality and positive customer service, check out Terry’s Automotive. They were responsive and diligent with following up on the status of my car which can be difficult to find. Even pricing is on par and typically cheaper than other Fullerton auto repair shops located nearby. You won’t regret working with this company!

These guys are great! I would push my car past other shops to go here. They will work on anything from cars to boats, have honest prices and do the job right. We’ve been coming here for years.

My family has been taking our cars to Terry’s for 15+ years. They are extremely honest and fair, stand by their work and will let you know if they are not the best shop for a particular job.
A few examples of their honesty…1) My sisters first car was a 1984 beater Ford Mustang. There was a crack in the power steering pump and it leaked. Terry said the cost to replace it would be about as much as the car was worth. He gave her a case of power steering fluid and said to re-​fill the pump when it gets empty and get a new car. Another shop probably would’ve sold her a new pump and pocketed a few hundred dollars.
2) My sister took her new car in because the «brake light» lit up on the dash. She assumed that meant she needed new brakes. Turned out she was just low on brake fluid. Terry refilled it for free and sent her on her way. Another shop might’ve sold her new brakes/​rotors etc. for hundreds of dollars.
3) I took my truck in for some work (can’t remember what). About a week prior I had my alignment done at a shop Terry recommended. It turned out that they did not tighten some parts of my suspension correctly and had I not taken it to Terry’s when I did I could’ve been in a serious accident. Terry made the truck safe to drive, called the alignment shop for me and let them know of the problem so I could take my truck back and have them redo the alignment. Another shop might not have noticed the faulty repair job and certainly wouldn’t have taken the time to help a customer correct it at another shop.
I HIGHLY recommend Terry’s automotive. You’d be hard pressed to find a more honest and fair repair shop in OC.

I’ve been to Terry’s several times and they have done great work, even saving me money on parts sometimes. They know what they are doing and are on time with delivery. I would go back.

I took my 2005 Honda Odyssy in for 65,000 miles service plus brake job. Prior to this my husband called the Honda Dealership service department and was quoted for $ 600.00 (not including brake service). Terry’s Automotive quoted us 350.00 dollars less than the dealership. When the car was done, the final price was even 50.00 less than it was origally quoted for. They even shuttled me (and my 2 year old son) back and fourth to drop and pick up my car. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I had been taking my car to Terry’s for years. A few years ago I took my car in for repairs and was way over charged. I felt the quality of work did not match equally with the price. I do not know what happened, Terry’s was always good to me for years. Because I felt I got the shaft, I went looking for other repair shops and found out I was way over charged. Plus, they did not even replace the part I was charged for. They just cleaned the old part and made it look new (new mechanic told me). I’m so disappointed and hurt. It makes me wonder what other times over the past I was over charged and paid for services I never got in return.

When going to a mechanic, you get what you pay for. Is Terry’s the cheapest place? No. Is their work good and are their prices fair. Yes. I’ve been going to Terrys for about six or seven years and have never had any problems with their work. I’ve had minor and major work done on my college beater and my wife’s college beater. We’ve also had maintenance work done on our new «grown up» cars. On more than one occasion, I’ve seen mechanics from local dealerships bring cars by to have Matt figure out what’s wrong with them since they evidently couldn’t. Every time Matt was able to quickly figure out what was wrong and send them on their merry way. So, yeah it might not be the cheapest place, but I’d rather go to the place that other mechanics go to for help.

I was personally referred to Terry’s by a friend, and have had a couple good experiences: they offer great customer service (personal, friendly, seem genuine & honest, don’t make you feel rushed, don’t tack on hidden fees, and explain problems in depth), their prices are reasonable, and their location is in a good spot as well (you can walk in downtown Fullerton/​get a bite to eat nearby).
The first time I went, Matt fixed my rear stop light for FREE. The second time, I got my brakes replaced and was offered a free ride home by Terry.
I will continue to go to Terry’s…

The rating of one star might even be over doing it. I would NEVER go back here again. I was referred by a long time client of Terry’s who has also spent thousands of dollars on auto repair. Long story short, my friend took me down to Terry’s to pick up my truck. They pulled out my truck and parked it in front of the office, meanwhile a woman was pulling out of a parking space along the back. She was obviously not looking as she backed out of the parking spot and she backed right into the front end of my truck.
My first thought was, «Accidents happen… that’s why they call them accidents. No big deal.» However, this woman comes out of her «mom van» screaming at me (while her child climbed out of the passenger side of her van and watched this whole disgusting confrontation) that it was my fault that she backed into my truck, that she didn’t do anything wrong, that she didn’t cause any damage, and that I «better not get attitude with her.» She was a pretty large woman and quite honestly I would have needed some heavy artillery to «get attitude with her.» What made it even worse was that TERRY came running out of the shop (after not seeing a thing) at her defense claiming that the damage to my truck was already there, and that he could fix the bumper hanging of with a simple zip tie, which he went running back into the shop to retrieve. (she was obviously another one of his «favorite» customers who had spent MUCH more money that I during the past years)
My truck DID in fact already have some damage to the front end, but scary mom in the van contributed to even more.
I had a final in Speech class minutes later and didn’t feel that calling the police would be to my benefit, especially since this crazy lady and her knight in shining armor, TERRY would have their word against mine.
This happened about two years ago and as you can see, I have not forgotten about the way I was treated. I feel like you should all know that if you go here, you’ll over pay and not only that but unless you’ve been over paying for years and years, you won’t be treated with any respect.
They didn’t even do that great of fixing what I brought it in for and they were supposed to reattach my rearview mirror, which they half-​assed glued to the wrong piece of the base stuck to my windshield. I knew I should have just done it myself because after that it was forever ruined.
Happy auto repair shopping. I’d say you’re better off pulling out your manual and trying to fix it yourself!
