Description

Specialties

Columbus Academy is one of the premier Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 coeducational country day schools in the United States that provides students from throughout Central Ohio with an exceptional academic education and a wide array of extracurricular opportunities. Our «In Quest of the Best» motto emphasizes developing the entire individual: mind, body and character.

History

Established in 1911.

Columbus Academy was one of the first schools in the nation to embrace the «country day» philosophy: a belief that the education process is a cooperative effort between the school and home. Originally located on Nelson Road near Bexley, the school moved to its current 231-acre site on Cherry Bottom Road in Gahanna in the fall of 1968. Coeducation was introduced in the early 1990s, and the first coeducational senior class graduated in 1993. The school — which promotes a well-rounded experience — has won over 80 state championships in 13 different sports, has students selected for state and national art awards on a yearly basis, and consistently has Central Ohio’s highest percentage of seniors recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Based on its high academic standards, Columbus Academy was one of only three schools in the nation selected as a 2010 recipient of a $ 2 million endowment to provide scholarships for top-level students with financial need.
