Los Jalapenos

Great atmosphere. Manager came over to our table and greeted us and was very friendly. The chips, salsa, and guac were worth another trip! The giant burrito was awesome, very fresh and light! I will def go back next time i’m in town!

I had this delivered via
to my place in New Albany. The snow kept me inside and I was craving some mexican… some people think because I am latin that I can just whip up a chile relleno or a tamale… not so! In fact, I can only make grilled salmon… and that is about it for my cooking skills…
I ordered online and got some enchiladas and guac. the delivery service was great, I will use them again. but I wasn’t impressed with the food. I am not giving them a bad review because it wasn’t horrible… it just wasn’t my kind of mexican… I like very authentic style mex… I am from Los Angeles… I would say it was decent food with good flavor… i just don’t really use white sauce and white cheese in my enchiladas. or rather. in those i order other people to make for me… I am more of a red sauce kinda girl…
Anyway, I think it was decent mexican food, if you aren’t into super authentic style. This might be more tex/​mex than actual Mexican food…

I would like to start off by the customer service it was not what I expected there was many of the employees were standing there doing nothing while we needed assistance secondly the plate that we order didn’t come as I expected some things were missing the food didn’t have the mexican flavor I was really disappointed this was definitely my last visit

I started coming here when I got tired of the wait at El Vaquero down the street. While the food isn’t quite as good, the place is generally wait-​free. If you want a decent Mexican meal in a hurry, then I would recommend this place. If you want an AUTHENTIC-​tasting Mexican meal, plan ahead and go to El Vaquero. The waitstaff here is a little slow, but still get the job done. I always get the Fajitas Burritos. The cheese sauce is a little spicy for my taste, but I guess they don’t call it Los Jalapenos for nothing. I’ve never tried their Mexican Burgers, but they do look good on the menu. Overall, I would say that the food is a little bland compared to most Mexican dishes, but not bland enough to keep me from coming back.

This place is better than El Vaquero. My husband and I went on Labor Day, it was
fairly quiet. We also had our 9 month old with us. We were seated quickly, the chips
and salsa were great and replenished as requested. We ordered margaritas,
chicken fajitas, and the shrimp chimichanga. The food arrived promptly and had
wonderful flavors. The beans are topped with a few diced peppers and onions, if you don’t like that, it would be easy to scoop off. The refried beans were standard and the rice was lightly seasoned and had perfect texture. The server checked on us frequently and a bus boy took our picture was helpful. The
margarita was good too, I liked that they have 3 different sizes of margaritas for those that may want a larger or smaller amount. Overall a great family dining exerience, priced right, clean and good service and food.
We will go here now instead of El Vaquero.

These giant Tex Mex type places just all seem the same to me. The good thing about Los Jalepenos is that they’re not afraid to spice up their food a bit. Even the refried beans had a kick. We had chimis, we had enchiladas, we had tamales. Everything had a kick. I also think that the food was a bit overseasoned. The salt and pepper flavor of everything was a bit overpowering. Overall though, for this type of place, the food wasn’t bad.
The reason for the two stars was the service. We came in at 9:00, and the place closes at 10. Translation: no hostess, floors already being mopped, server: clearly checked out for the day. Zero attention to the customer, mumbled everything he said (I seriously didn’t understand a word), no welcome, no «how’s everything». Nothing. We had to get the other server who was mopping to go tell him to bring our check. He was very excited to tell us about a salsa dancing class that he teaches. I just can’t stand when you have to go to a place «at the right time» just to get decent/​half-​friendly service.

For us, there was nothing remarkable. The food was neither good nor bad — just OK. The food was very salty, if nothing else. I have two teen sons who will eat just about anything (and they are always hungry), but they didn’t finish thier dinners. Our server, however, was very pleasant. When the food arrived, it came out in large portions and it was delivered quickly. The guacamole was excellent!

I’m not sure this place really merits a 4-​star rating. It’s very similar to the other Mexican restaurants in the area (El Vaquero and Las Margaritas, specifically). Both of those are pretty standard 3-​star spots. Los Jalapenos is only slightly better – but, it is better, so by default it gets 4 I suppose.
I tried Los Jalapenos on Monday around 6:00 and it was pretty dead except for one group that seemed to get a new person to join in every 5 minutes. The waiter I had was friendly and attentive at first, but near the end of my meal a little less so. I chalk this up to the growing group next to me that didn’t seem to get the idea of all ordering drinks at the same time. So he would make 3 trips for 3 people instead of 1. He did a good job, though.
A Mexican restaurant is only as good as it’s salsa. The salsa here is a notch above El Vaquero and was pretty good all around. I ordered an enchilada and a chimichanga. Both were good – although the chimi was considerably larger than the enchilada. Usually I like my Mexican spicy – this wasn’t nearly as spicy as I would have liked. But, in fairness, most places in Columbus (sans Chile Verde) don’t really have much heat in their food.
Bottom line, I work near Easton, and if I was in the mood for Mexican I would absolutely go here again. But, if I was at home near German Village I wouldn’t make the drive all the way out here for it.

I was at Easton and in the mood for Mexican food so looked on my GPS for places to eat. I ran across this place and decided to give it a try. I’m really glad I did.
I went at about 1:30 in the afternoon so it wasn’t busy and I got seated right away. The server brought out the chips which were really good. Most Mexican restaurants will bring you free chips and salsa, but these were exceptionally good. The chips were hot, fresh and salted perfectly. The salsa tasted really fresh also.
I ordered the cheese dip with my chips and just a chicken quesadilla for my entrée. The chicken quesadilla was pretty good. It was large enough that I had to take home some of it. The cheese dip was tasty but a little spicy for me.
I noticed all the interesting drinks and margaritas they have. I will definitely be coming back to try the avocado margarita. It sounds awesome! I can’t wait to come back and try some more stuff!

I’m on assignment in Columbus through the end of this month and tonight I felt like having Mexican. Then I ran into this gem. The chips and salsa were very fresh and great tasting. I wish more Mexican restaurants would follow this standard.
I chose the chicken Enchilada patter and couldn’t decide between the cream sauce or the salsa verde. On the recommendation of my waitress I ordered it half and half. The restaurant wasn’t very busy and my order came out very quickly. It was wonderful. Both sauces were good; however, the salsa verde was a bit salty. This was a minor blemish on a wonderful dinner.
Definitely check out this place for great food, good service and very reasonable prices.

This place was great. Awesome food, I had soft tacos, husband had burritos, happy hour specials are great. Very festive, and the service was great. We will definitely go back soon!!!

I can’t remember what it is called, but the stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon… that’s what you need to order. You get about 12 shrimp (decent sized) stuffed with cream cheese and jalapenos (which they can leave out) and then wrapped in bacon and grilled. The skewered bacon/​shimp are served on a bed of sizzling peppers and onions. This dish comes with a side of beans and rice. It’s excellent.
If you order the guac, get it made tableside! They will customize the ingredients to suit your taste. Their chips are also very good. The salsa has a bit of spice to it, so be careful with that first taste!
The TVs are tuned to Spanish language stations, so don’t try to strain to hear what’s going on unless you’ve got an ear for Spanish. :)
I really like this place, it’s my go-​to for casual Mexican fare.

This is only a review for the take-​out food here, because I have yet to sit in the restaurant and eat. When you walk in, it’s very bright and vivid, and seemed clean enough, but I didn’t experience the service.
The chips were very good, and tasted house made, and the guacamole was good but would have been better without so much cilantro. Which ended up being a theme in the rest of my meal. It was like they’d gotten a truckload of cilantro that was all going to go bad in a week, so they started throwing hand fulls in everything.
Which was how half of my burrito was unedible to me until I’d opened it up and scraped out a salad’s worth of greenery. But after that it was quite good.
So if you don’t like cilantro, let them know before they make your food, and if you do like it, then you’re gonna love Los Jalapenos.

In the mood for a cool adult beverage on a warm summer evening, I spotted the signs. Plastered along the windows of this strip mall eatery like circus posters before the elephants come to town, I was enticed by the «Happy Hour Cerveza and Margarita» specials. I had not planned to eat, so this suited me just fine. As I entered, I noticed another sign saying that most bottled beer was $ 2.50, and selected appetizers were half price during the 3 to 6 «Hora Feliz»!. That’s Happy Hour up here north of the border. The menu calls it «La Hora Loca» (The Crazy Hour), and lists it as «3:07 to 6:02″. Craaaaaaazy!
Being just after 5:30, the restaurant was still relatively empty. I sat myself down at the small bar, just as the barmaid departed for parts unknown, and perused the beer selection. As I scanned the choices, a waiter popped out of nowhere and produced a fresh, warm, large basket of chips, and a moderately good sized bowl of salsa, medium in spiciness if I were to guess, and apparently in-​house made. I decided I would ask for a „Negro Modelo“, one of the many Mexican varieties available, and probably my favorite South of the Border beer. This, of course, was provided the barmaid would stop by to say „Buenos Dias“ to the only patron at, or in, the bar, before it became „Buenos Noches“. She eventually returned, and after several minutes of counting tips, organizing receipts and arranging barware, I got her attention. I ordered the Negro Modelo, (nice with the salty chips and flavorful salsa) and commented that I thought the price was pretty good for an import during happy hour. She said she wasn’t sure if that was one of the beers on the list. I pointed to the sign next to me on the wall that indicated it was. I got the beer (and a lime wedge stuffed into the opening that was big enough to keep a semi-​truck from rolling), that was cold and frosty. She asked if I wanted to eat, and since I had seen a $ 0.97 taco special after I was seated, I ordered a couple of those. She asked what sides I wanted, and I said „just the tacos“ and pointed at the sign. Again, no clue that they were happy hour treats. When I asked about what appetizers were ½ price, she had to get a waiter. I looked over the menu, and decided the „Mexican Nachos“ would be good instead of the tacos; and oh boy, were they ever.
Arriving perhaps five minutes later, there they were: A stack of chips all covered in cheesy goodness, with plenty of classic nacho goodies on top. Warm, fresh, salty chips covered with chili, cheese, beef, sour cream, guacamole, tomatoes and carrying the most wonderful, moist and marinated shredded chicken ever to grace a humble tortilla chip. I loved them. These come highly recommended when you go, and at $ 4.00 during the half price special, they are an excellent deal.
The service was spotty, the waitress needed to be more familiar with the restaurant’s „CrazyHour“ specials, but in the long run, I walked away satisfied.

I happily paid up, glad that I had stopped by. Oh yeah, and „Muchos Gracias“ to you, Señorita».

I thought this place was great! I’m not sure what it is with some of the other reviewers dogging the atmosphere… its about as authentic Mexican as you can get… VERY similar to some places I’ve been in Mexico — including the painted tabletops and the painted and carved chairs, as well as the wild wall colors. No it may not be «Columbus TRENDY», but it is Mexican.
As for the food, I thought it was great! HUGE portions… make sure you’re hungry when you go. And it seems they have nightly drink specials too… always a plus! The night I went it was $ 3 sangria — very tasty!
Long story short — if you want good food, come here! If you’re going to base your decision based on the décor… this is Mexico folks.

A typical Ohio Mexican restaurant. The service was very good. The prices, for the $ 5 lunch special anyway, are great. The food: average. My chimichanga was great, the usual beans and rice sides were mediocre. I also had a side of guacamole, which was good but not quite fresh.

This was a lovely little place! As you walk in, it looks like you’re walking through an old town in Mazatlan, Mexico. Very nice décor and lots to look at.
I had the chicken fajitas and they were amazingly delicious! It was a huge portion. It comes with beans, rice, and three tortillas. If you ask for more tortillas (which come in a foil wrap of 3), they will charge you $.99 more. (Boo!) Other than that, everything was very good.
Tonight, they had sangrias for $ 3.00. Very tasty!
My dinner companion got the chicken quesadillas, which looked excellent! They were large and covered with a flavorful cheese sauce.
The salsa as cold and fresh and the chips were good too.
Overall, I’d definately go back.

Oh my gosh! I LOVED THIS PLACE!!! We went late on a saturday so the place was DEAD!
First of all, the chips and salsa were AMAZING! I have been trying and trying to replace my old Mexican restaurant since I moved, and this was the one place that has come the closest! The salsa was very flavorful and had a very strong flavor. It wasn’t fruity which I’ve had at a few places. The chips were a little thicker than I normally see which was only a bonus!
Our food seemed to take a little longer than I would anticipate for only having to prepare two dishes. I tried the tacos which had a very rich flavor. Wasn’t a big fan of the cheese though. I usually like my cheese cold and with a strong flavor, there’s was a little on the bland side and melted when it arrived at my table.
All in all I was very satisfied with the meal and will most likely return!

I’ll be honest: we started off rough. The ambiance of this place is more Chuck E. Cheese than Columbus Chic. The starter was disappointing and throw in an awkward (but attentive) server and I was ready to condem Los Jalapeños to 2-​star land. «But you gave it Four stars?» you might ask? Turns out they had a few surprises in store!
First, the bad. For a starter we got the $ 7 nachos. I expected something more than the 12 chips that came out. Each chip was covered in cheese and had a single jalapeño pepper on it and while they were tasty, they weren’t worth the price. For $ 9 you could have meat added. Stick with the complementary chips and salsa, or give the queso a try, but avoid the overpriced nachos!
The entrees were a different story completely. We ordered the Molcajete and the Fajitas Quesadilla. (Note: the menu on their website and the menu in the restaurant are completely different. I couldn’t find any of the items we had on their website!)
The Molcajete was amazing – A huge, hot lava-​rock bowl filled with onions, peppers, cheese, and amazing spices. On top of all that, shrimp, chicken, steak, and BBQ ribs all sizzling away. The food had a smokey taste, but the steak took it a bit too far and was easily the worst meat on the platter, dry and overwhelmingly smokey. The menu says the $ 20 Molcajete serves two, but it could probably work to serve 3 in a pinch, especially if you fill up on free chips and salsa!
The Fajitas Quesadilla were quesadillas with fajita ingredients, all smothered in a cheese sauce. They let me get half steak and half chicken, so I was pleased to try both. Again, the steak was a bit overdone, but not powerfully smokey like the steak from the Molcajete. The fajitas were generally good, but not nearly as impressive as the Molcajete.
The strangest part of the entire experience was the Astro Pop. When our server brought the bill, he also brought 3 Astro Pop popsicles. I can’t explain this and the server didn’t offer a reason for it either. It was odd. We quickly realized that grown adults can’t eat popsicles without some level of self consciousness.
Bottom line: The decorations are awful, the chips and salsa were great, the nachos were overpriced, and the entrees were amazing. I’d go back, but probably with a large group so we could try more things.
