This place is delicious! Pork is really good and some of the best baked beans I have ever had. The banana pudding is to die for. You have to try it. The only downside is they have very limited hours and there isn’t air conditioning in the dining area. Otherwise this place is great!

This place has incredible bbq. Now that has to mean a lot from someone who doesn’t even like bbq. Chicken was pulled off the bone and easy to eat. The meat was smokey but so very moist. Original sauce was good and I enjoyed the mac and cheese. I will definitely be returning to try out their smoked chicken salad lunch.

Took a friends advice and finally drove up from Cumming to try this place. The service and friendly staff were great, and the pork BBQ was as good as I have ever had, with sauces that complimented the meat and didn’t compete.
The slaw, however, was just cabbage and rather mundane and the Brunswick stew, while tasty could have used a few veggies besides a smattering of corn. Maybe potatoes and limas?
Overall a good meal, but the next trip (and there will be one) I am going to try different sides.

Best stew ever. The sauce is perfection and there is nothing else around that can compare. The coleslaw is finely chopped and delicious. If you are looking for some good barbecue, this is your place. It may look like a hole in the wall, but you’re in the right place. You won’t be disappointed.

Only one word can sum up this place… unbelievable!!! After a long rainy day on our Harley’s, my brother and I stopped by Frazier’s HD for a break. Not wanting to eat at the normal places, we asked for a local spot that they could recommend. They sent us to Smokehouse BBQ off exit 16. The food was delicious and the owner and staff were courteous and friendly. I am not sure if you can go wrong with anything on the menu since everything is prepared in house and most sides are made from scratch. The Mac & cheese and the Brunswick stew were to die for. If you want to taste the best banana pudding on the eastern seaboard… stop here!

Super tasty though I wish they had fans on in the outdoor eating area because it was almost too hot to eat! We really enjoyed the food and the banana pudding is the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant!

Excellent BBQ! Great family atmosphere! Awesome banana pudding! No seasoning but good smoked flavor on the pulled pork we had and the original sauce we chose didn’t overpower the meat.

The outside shed dining area is unique and it has a wood burning stove for the winter. We had the pork and the beef sandwich with sides of Mac and cheese and Brunswick stew. The sandwiches had lots of meat that was tender and moist but not much in the flavor of a rub. The Mac and cheese and the Brunswick stew both were good. It was our first try of an «Alabama» mayonaise based sauce but do not know how it compares to other similar sauces.

This setup is pretty cool! They have a walk up window for ordering. Their prices are really great! I recommend the pork. Sides are okay but the meat is the star — nice smoke to it without it being too heavy or smokey. Only 2 sauce selections but they’re both solid sauces. Their dining room is a wood shed with fans and screened windows. I’m a repeat customer now. :)

Polite, friendly, and quick service! Food is delicious as well! The pulled pork and brunswick stew were both excellent. I thought the «woodshed» dining area was a neat idea. Definitely not fancy but fits the style of the place. Will return when back in town.

Don’t blink, you’ll miss it!
Great little weekday lunch spot. Food comes out fast, and you can eat in the «Wood Shed» next door. My pork was moist and tender, but not much smoky flavor. The Brunswick Stew had plenty of meat in it, and tasted good. The Potato Salad was good, but I prefer red potatoes and less onion. The pork plate came with generous portions of meat and sides, and your choice of bread. Their house sauce is a runny vinegar based with a good tangy flavor and just enough heat. Their sweet sauce is a little thicker and has some heat, but not too sweet. Prices are good, and the menu provides some unique options like hotdogs and chili.
If you’re looking for a quick lunch BBQ spot, then try it out. If you’re a BBQ connoisseur, keep looking.

Big BBQ fan and try just about all if them. This is my «go to» for BBQ! Real pit smoked and the sides are great. Live the brunswick stew.

I wish Unilocal allowed half star ratings… I would muster this place a 3.4 and round up to 3.5 because thw staff was so nice. But that’s not the case. We were passing through the area and had a case of the hangries and decides to forgo Sonny’s for this spot. Definitely better than Sonny’s but not quite up to the hype based on the reviews.
*Half rack of ribs: dry, slight hint of hickory, not much flavor otherwise. Maybe it was just not as flavorful of a cut? 2 stars.
*Beef: Good! Juicy with a nice flavor! Not overly smoked. I’m a beef brisket fan so I’m used to a fatties cut but this was a nice change. 4 solid stars!
*Potato salad. Kind of sad and lifeless. Mayo? Mustard? Relish? I think they were all part of the ingredients. 1 star.
*Cole slaw. I thought it was ok! It tasted like slaw. 3 stars.
*Brunswick stew. I was SO excited to try this after all the glowing reviews but after a couple bites I wished I could have gone back and let it be an enigma. Maybe the stew and the potato salad both had a rough night together. The stew was also terribly bland and non-​descript. The only flavor that stood out was the corn. 1.5 stars.
*Baked beans. Heavens to Betsy, these beans will give you glorious diabetes. Brown sugary heaven and spice. After this side I was stuffed and couldn’t even go back for a cup of banana pudding to go (my one regret!). 4.5 stars!
A nice, quick stop near the interstate– sure beats your standard fast food joint!

I struggled with how I was going to rate this spot for a while. I danced on the 4 star rating for a bit, but realized ultimately, it wasn’t a 4 star meal.
I got the pork plate with two sides, garlic bread, pickles, and a large sweet tea for around $ 9.50. As far as quantity for price is concerned, they’ve earned every bit of credit due. Great, great value for BBQ.
Taste. Hmm. I started with the Brunswick Stew as one of my sides, and I always gauge a BBQ restaurant on their Brunswick Stew. It was a thicker stew, which I prefer, but it was very bland. There was no smokyness, no real taste of the seasoned meat, and it was sparse on vegetables. It was a little bland and required some salt and pepper.
The Mac N Cheese wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t a standout, either. It needed a little salt, and was a little too cool temperature wise for my liking.
The Garlic Bread was decent. They put some dill on it, which I enjoyed.
Now. for the meat. The meat is the true telltale sign of the greatness of a BBQ restaurant. I tried an end piece with minimal sauce on it first to gauge the flavor the meat. It was. ok. There wasn’t a strong presence of flavor in the meat itself, no real smokey-​hickory feel. However, it was cooked absolutely perfect. It was a little cool, I wished for it to be a few degrees warmer.
The sauce — It was a thick sauce that started sweet and left some spicy tang after a few chews. I think the saddest part about all of this was that the meat required the sauce to have any real taste to it, and then there was no variety in taste as the pork on my plate became a sauce-​delivery device, making a sauce the feature of the meal.
All in all, I think the description of 3 stars sums up the experience; A-​OK.

This place is a true local gem. Maybe I’m too used to Atlanta pricing, but a reasonably size portion of pulled pork, two sides, a thick slice of bread, and a monstrous sweet tea allows me to walk out for under $ 10? I’d be hard pressed to pick anything else while I’m in the area.
I had the mac and cheese and the chili. The mac & cheese appeared to have panko to give it some texture and crunch, and the chili was akin the the soupy variety (including hominy!) that my parents love. Good stuff, but my next visit will probably involve different sides to continue the exploration.
Don’t let the walk-​up window dissuade you, nor the covered building next door with picnic tables. The line moves at a pretty steady pace, and a long line full of locals is a healthy sign of what you’re in for. They’re slowing working on moving to a bigger space next door, and I may get the joy of eating at a place with a pig weathervane next time I’m in Gainesville.
