We specialize in treating chronic and acute pain using a combination of chiropractic and acupuncture. We are a family practice that serves children, adults and seniors. Our sub-specialties include the care of expectant mothers during pregnancy, the rehabilitation of athletes following a sports injury and the restoration of proper alignment and function for those suffering whiplash or otherwise injured in an auto accident.

Chiropractic care is provided by Dr. Greg Swistak. You may know him from his many talks at community health fairs and at local employers. Our board certified acupuncturist, Wei Zhao, is a Chinese physician having practiced acupuncture and herbal Chinese medicine in Shanghai.

Together we recommend the combination of therapies that produce the best results for the patient. Our goal is always to get our patients feeling better and back to doing what they enjoy as quickly as possible.

History

Established in 2004.

Active Family Chiropractic was founded in 2004, opening its doors with just one doctor and no staff. Since that time, the practice has expanded its services to include acupuncture, and now has three other team members working in our office. Across the past ten years, we’ve treated thousands of patients!

Our healthcare professionals help patients with a broad range of health issues, treating everything from everyday lower back pain, neck pain and headaches to sports-, workplace and auto injuries. As a father of two active kids and an exercise enthusiast himself, Dr. Swistak understands how debilitating back and neck pain can be. He enjoys getting people well quickly so that they can return to their active lives. Our practice also excels at knowing which health conditions we can treat successfully and when it’s appropriate to refer a patient to another medical professional.

Business Owner

Dr. Greg Swistak graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1997. He is the founder of Active Family Chiropractic in Gaithersburg Maryland and serves as its chief chiropractor. Dr. Swistak believes that patient education about biomechanics, nutrition and other wellness topics is an essential component of care. He is a well know lecturer on alternative and complementary medicine having presented at many DC-area employers including NASA.

Dr. Greg Swistak is an expert in the field of bio-mechanics. He is currently a member of the Maryland Chiropractic Association, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and a Fellow of the American Medical Acupuncture Society.

Dr. Swistak has been my Chiropractor for 10+ years. I started with Doc when he was located in North Bethesda, and I’ve followed him to his location in the Kentlands.
Knock on wood, I’ve been healthy and have avoided spine and muscle problems, however, when the occasional spasm or twinge happens, my first call is to Dr. Swistak.
Our injuries are never convenient in our busy lives, so it is incredibly helpful to go to a practice that can always fit you in. Their lunch hours and late evening time slots have allowed me to run over for a quick adjustment and consultation. I generally go only once or twice a year, but it is comforting to know I will be seen when I need help and within just a few minutes after arriving.
There is a great rhythm in Dr. Swistak’s practice, where is expertise and supportive staff handle patients needs without rushing you or being out of control. That adds to the patient experience, as one never wants to be treated as a number or an income stream. Great care is taken and that keeps me coming back.
If you suffer from chronic pain or the occasional flare up, Dr. Swistak is a great choice for a Chiropractor. I have referred friends and family to him as well.

I have seen 4 chiropractors in my lifetime, and Dr. Swistak is by far the best — as such I have been seeing him for 12+ years.
He’s not only a gifted healer, but very personable and professional.
I’ve gone to him with upper back pain (holding children), lower back pain (sports), ankle pain (lacrosse), and various other tweaks as well. Even when I had odd chest pains that couldn’t be explained by a physician. Seems the cartilage in my ribs had compressed. A few manipulations and I was good as new. His diagnosis of the cause of my various pains and discomforts have been spot on.
I would recommend Dr. Greg Swistak to anyone who has skeletal or spine issues and wants to feel better.

I came in with chronic lower back pain. I like to support the businesses in my neighborhood, so I called them up for a consultation. Dr. Swistak’s office was very accommodating with early and late appointments available. I never waited more than 5 minutes and the staff is very friendly. The rolly-bed thing is the best and he gave me exercises to do at home which were helpful. I would recommend this office to anyone. Oh yeah, and my back feels much better now.

This practice is great. Always on time. I show up early and they take me right away. Staff is super friendly and personable. I had a hip and sciatic problem and he fixed me so much that he even improved my golf game! Attention to all golfers-visit him! He will help your rotation! I’m a converted chiropractic skeptic, now a chiropractic believer. Dr. Swistak has helped me with a lower back pain problem I’ve had for over 10 years. A sudden re-injury sent me looking for something, ANYTHING, that could help me. Dr. Swistak’s evaluation hit on all of the things that were of concern to me. He thoroughly explained the process, what I could expect and how long I could expect it to take.
I appreciate his approach of combining work in the office with stretching and strengthening on your own. After just a few visits, my back was greatly improved. Several weeks later, I was feeling as good as I have in years. There’s another sign that points to the type of practice this is… he told me I didn’t need to come in anymore. How crazy honest is that? A doctor telling you that you don’t need his services anymore, wonderful.
Dr. Swistak and his staff know you by name and remember the things you talk to them about. I always get asked, «How was [that thing] you were going to last week?» or «Did that visit with your [relative] turn out ok?»
I don’t usually give out 5-star reviews. In my opinion they should be very hard to come by and represent truly above and beyond service. What earned this 5-star review in short is:

Went to Wei Zhao, acupuncturist, to help my daughter’s chronic pain. After several years of specialists diagnosing everything from fibromyalgia to psychosymatic pain, no one could help. We spent so much time and money. Wei Zhao was not only able to help her manage the pain but was able to tell us that it was caused by a problem with her sciatic nerve. That led us to a chiropractor who was able to fix the problem within a month.
Wei is very nice, friendly and listened to my daughter to find out how to help her best. If we have any other acupuncture needs, I would definitely return. I recommend her highly!
