The Computer Place

I got hit with a verson of the locky ransomware virus, and all my files got encrypted. The Computer Place basically got backup copies out of my computer (despite my not having backed them up normally), and all was well. Cost was a fraction of what the ransom amount would’ve been. Couldn’t recomnmend them more for service! (which is all I have used them for thus far, but might consider them for the next time I’m in the market for a computer).

Great service, great work for new or repair of PCs! I’ve used these guys for four years and they are the best around! Just bought a new system there; they transferred old HD to new and all is well!

Totally fixed my clamshell notebook. I basically knew what was wrong (loose daughterboard connector after my own ham-​handed replacement of the HD) but it took them 25 minutes to fix what would have taken me all day.
In, out, very inexpensive, great guys. What else is there?
Don’t get me wrong: I hope never to have to come back. But if I need parts, then I guess that’s okay.

I love this place! I recently experienced problems with my laptop and not only did I receive excellent customer service but my laptop was returned to me in perfect working order. I particularly appreciated the fact 1) that I was not talked down to; 2) I was kept aware of the status of my laptop for the entire time they were working on it; and 3) even though the techs put in long hours troubleshooting my computer and even ordered a SUPER expensive part which they spent time installing and then had to uninstall, the total cost to me was ONLY $ 50 (I was originally quoted over $ 200!). For any issues I have in the future I will definitely bring my computer here. Thanks to Charles and The Computer Place!

I bought a computer from Charles, located in Fairfax VA a while back and he tailored a machine to my specific needs. My list of potential perfect laptops went from 15 to 2 in a very logical manner.
I saw that they had to close down their Fairfax store and I was very disappointed but it was understandable because of the horrible taxes/​costs of the property manager that aren’t exactly amenable to a unique (non-​chain) business like this.
When I realized they have a main store in Maryland, I dried my eyes and set the GPS to their new (I call it hidden) location. Within 45 minutes, I was face to face with Charles and his HUGE selection of computer cases/​parts/​accessories.
Thank you, computer place… for not wearing a black/​blue bestbuy shirt and not looking clueless when I ask you how much L2 cache a specific processor has.

I have brought several computers here for repair over the years and I have always been satisfied. They have even told me when a less expensive part would actually suit
my needs better than the more expensive part I was asking about. They have a well-​stocked parts department and someone is always happy to help you find the right cord or part to fit your needs. Prices are excellent.

Recently, the cord to the AC adapter for my laptop cracked, and rather than having to purchase an entirely new AC adapter, I was able to simply buy a replacement cord at this store.
This place has two great things going for it: a large selection of obscure computer parts and helpful sales staff.
Any sort of component for desktops or laptops that you need is likely to be found at this store, and there might even be some there that you never knew even existed.
As for the staff, they’re friendly and knowledgeable, and best of all, they explain things to you in a way that neither puffs up their intelligence nor insults your own.
While it’s possible you can find lower prices for some items online, I have purchased items at this store that are difficult to find even on the web. Give this place a try some time.

This place was highly recommended to me and everything started out great. Someone sat down with me and discussed what I used my computer for and what my options were. Based on my answers they designed a computer for me. They called within a day or two to say my computer was ready. While I was picking it up I said I also wanted to up-​grade my printer. There was one on sale with all of my needs – copy, scan and print so I bought it. When I got home I realized it was not Windows 7 compatible but it still copied, scanned and printed documents so that didn’t ring any alarm bells for me. It wasn’t until some time later when I tried to print photos that I ran into the problems. The color was totally off. I kept thinking it would be better if I changed the cartridges, used a different photo editor, etc., etc. Finally I really needed some photos for a mini-​reunion and started to investigate and found that the Windows 7 issue would never be resolved and I would never print usuable photos. By then it was too late to return it so today, less than 2 years later, I went to a super electronics store and bought a new printer. I originally went to the Computer Place because I trusted that they would get me set up, and since I’m no computer expert, they would help me avoid any problems. It never occured me to ask whether a printer was compatible with my computer so I’m disappointed they didn’t steer me to one that was.

Brought my computer in after going to another place another horrible place. They were nice, knowledgeable, and helped me figure out what went wrong. We found out the problem was the mobo and sold me something that could tide me over till I get a new one. My original was under warranty. They let me make sure my comp was usable before I left. Great place and will go back again

I took my computer in for repairs. The technician I spoke to is evidently unfamiliar with the term «customer service». The conversation consisted of explanations on my part and grunts on his. No effort to understand the problem, no offer to hold the door while I carried the thing in. .. and the problems I described were not fixed. The inside of the computer was filthy when I got it back, it was still so noisy it’s hard to carry on a conversation in the same room, and it’s still slow as molasses in January. I’ll never go there for service again.

Welcome to one of the last «mom & pops» computer shops. This is where I usually go for computer hardware (memory, CPUs, cases, etc). The store is actually quite sizable and they have a good selection and a knowledgeable staff. They can build whole systems or you can buy all the parts and build it yourself. They also sell software, although I haven’t paid attention to their selection. (I usually go to Best Buy for software, but for hardware I go to The Computer Place, especially if I’m going to have a question like «what size power supply do I need for this», which is exactly the sort of thing that generic electronic store employees don’t usually know.)
They’ve also been there for years, so they must be doing something right.
Granted, you can probably find better prices online, but then you have to factor in cost and time of shipping. I prefer to just walk into the store and buy what I want. In fact, I need to stop by there sometime this weekend and get some more memory for this resource hog called «Vista». They suggested I stick with XP but did I listen? No, I didn’t. Should I have? Yes I should.
