Retail bakery baking with organic grains. Sweets and artisan breads. Eat in or carry out. Special orders are welcome! The bakery is adjacent to Cornucopia Natural Food and Fine Cheese where, in addition to the natural foods grocery, there is a small deli to complete one’s meal.

History

Established in 1989.

Uncle Billy’s Bakery has been in the Historic Seminary Street Commercial District since it was established. We have always baked from scratch and only us quality ingredients.

Shopped here last week. The food is good but the cashier was not competent. It took several tries for him to get our six-​item order straight and we eventually gave up and just took what he
managed to assemble. Tip for success is to place your order ONE. ITEM. AT. A. TIME. If we said we wanted two or more items he was unable to accurately fulfill the order. Never experienced anything quite like it.

FANTASTIC!!! I was passing through Galesburg and am so happy I found this gem. It’s a small local bakery – and you know it’s good because it’s where all the locals hang out! I had one of their blueberry muffins: outstanding! Everything is made from scratch and by hand. The owner is incredibly friendly. I highly recommend!

Wow, I can’t say enough good things about Uncle Billy’s and the attached Cornucopia. We go every time we visit Galesburg! The staff is extremely polite and friendly. The treats are baked with the best of ingredients (some are even organic) and taste amazing.

I came here yesterday, as I’m in town visiting a friend. Like other Unilocalers said, it’s attached to a health foods store, but the cool thing is you can shop both and pay in one location. I got a cream soda on the healthy side and a tiramisu on the other.
The tiramisu wasn’t a strong coffee flavor like I’m used to in Chicago, but it was still tasty!

I ordered a Batman birthday cake for my daughter and brother. I asked for a Batman symbol on the cake. It looked awful! The symbol was just an outline, they didn’t even fill it with yellow or black. The frosting had cracks all over it. When I asked them to fix it, they were snotty and rude. On top of that, they didn’t even fix it right! I thought maybe the taste of the cake would’ve made up for the terrible looks of it. Boy, was I wrong! I’ve never had a cake where people didn’t even finish their slice. I had to throw most everyone’s away, along with the leftover cake. I was very disappointed.

Get the spinach bread & creamy pasta salad, and you won’t be sorry. As for the desserts, death by Chocolate Fudgie (and their fudgies) in general are delicious; ask for the «half size» if the full one is too much for you. I’ve always found their pies to be mediocre, and sguar cookies & thumbprints have a very mild flavor, but are overwhelmed by the sugary sweetness of icing – which I personally enjoyed, but several friends found these items overpoweringly sweet. Credit card minimum of $ 5 I believe. This place is overpriced in my opinion, but there aren’t a lot of options for natural/​organic foods in Galesburg.

The cheese Danishes and cinnamon roll muffins are out of this world. Great selection of whole wheat breads. Can’t wait to try some of the other great looking sweets in their case.
