I haven’t been to the museum but I love the remains of the house on the Pirates property I’ve gone there since childhood to dream of times past and all those that walked the property.

Lame. Took my two children and they could care less because it was boring. Seems like they just stocked up on Pirate related merchandise (not that much either, it was kind of empty in there) and made their staff wear pirate hats. This place is nothing special, not even worth a second look.

Don’t waste your money! Maybe a kid would enjoy the treasure hunt but we were not even given the chance to partake of it. Go to Moody Gardens!

This place is super whack! I took my niece and nephews there to hopefully see something interesting and fun and it was a complete waste of money. It’s just one giant circle room that has a few facts you can find on Wiki and nothing interactive. The treasure map had misspelled words and they had an area for Pirates of the Caribbean with some cutouts that really had nothing to do with history. The tour is 10.00 for adults and it’s not even worth a dollar. There is a charge for kids over 5. Really disappointing :(

Not sure how the Haunted Mayfield Manor got on this list. Who ever developed the list obviously has never been there. Unfortunately we relied of the review and tried it out. What a waste of $ 40.00. 3 people run the whole show. 1 person collects $ 10.83 per person. 1 person tells you a boring 6 minute story. The last person, with extremely bad breath jumps from hole in the wall to hole in the wall to try to scare you. As one of my friends pointed out, my driving is much scarier than the haunted house.
Save some time and head to Kemah for a much better experience.
If you do happen to go to Haunted Mayfield Manor, bring some tic-​tacs to throw towards the guys mouth.

As a local here I’ve been wanting to go since they open but never had the time to. Finally my husband and I decided to take the tour after walking on the strand. We really enjoyed reading the posters and learning about Galveston’s famous pirate Jean Lafitte and his history, and the design of the ship was really cool. Makes you really feel like you’re on an actual ship. I really like the affects of the light shining down as the water, looks really pretty. If you’re a history person or just want to learn more about this islands past this is a great place to try out. I recommend buying tickets to both pirates and mayfield cause you do save from it. Mayfield was cool too, not a typical haunted house because the story were that of true events. Also part of Galveston history which happened after the 1900 storm. The story is sad to me and it will give you some screams walking trough the manor. Staff was very nice and informative, made you feel like they’ve known you. The actor who plays the doctor was very friendly and funny as well. Over all my husband and I enjoyed it and hope to take our family later.

We were very disappointed. We spent a lot of money for very little. The admission cost is $ 10 for adult and $ 6.45 for kids. The kids were bored. Do not make this one of your stops. I wished we had checked Unilocal before we went.
As all the other reviews said it was posters on walls. The interior is designed to look like a pirate ship. At the end there is posters of Johnny Depp. So my advice find something else.

Family of 4; @ $ 34 $ 36. Tour took about 15 minutes. Super lame and overpriced as most things on the Strand are. I would have felt okay spending $ 20 for all 4 of us. Kids got a prize at the end of the tour which was a small bag with 5 coins/‘jewel stones’/erasers) that they were able to choose. They were also disappointed in the prize.
While I was paying for our tour, there was a group of kids running on the deck behind us (just up the stairs at the beginning of the tour). At the top of her lungs and right in my face and ears, she literally screamed, «NOOOO RUNNING, NOOOO RUNNNING»!!! At least 2 – 3 times. I was shocked and I’m not shocked easily.
All I can say is ARRRRRGHHHH! and in the bad way.

We went to the Pirate Museum this week. There were six of us ranging from Mid 40’s, some college age and one 5 year old. We did have a good time. The exhibit itself is pretty cool as you board a ship. This is the interactive part, you can touch cannons and different things on the ship. It has a few artifacts. It would be nice to have had more of that type of history to look at.
The employee that was working was really nice. He was friendly, helpful and told us about upcoming events for children this summer.
Upside is that it can be fun if you want to have fun! We took pictures with all hands on deck and that was fun.
Down side would be not enough history for a museum.
I think 7 dollars for an adult would be more in line with what is there. 10 per person for adults was a bit steep in my opinion.

Ok, so I was excited about this place for my girls but uh, no. It was so small and there were a total of four or so rooms. We walked around and saw a few things but mostly pictures on the wall?! That was lame cause kids will not read all of that. As far as interactive, I did not see any. You do get a «scavenger hunt» sheet with questions on it and the answer would have a white letter on it. Then you fill out the letters and it will spell something. This to me was a distraction since you are supposed to be viewing the place, not looking for answers. By doing this, you kinda miss out on the exhitbit. but really, you ain’t missing nothing. This was the only sort of «interactive» thing but as far as the exhibits, I did not see anything interactive. Maybe I missed something but I doubt it. The only neat thing was the cabin area where there is a big window and outside are waves of the sea hitting the the window but otherwise than this, it was not worth the price of the ticket. 10 dollars for adult and 6.75 for kids? Are youkidding me? It was probably worth 2.50 for an adult. Seriously. We walked around and ended back at the entrance and we were shocked. We thought we had missed a bunch of rooms. lol. I said, no this can’t be the end. We made another round and realize, that was it. I would not recommend this place at all. The guy at the gift shop where you enter is quite nice actually. I can’t fault him for this lame place but don’t say you weren’t warned.

Kids enjoyed the map/​puzzle quest.

I was excited to see a museum about pirates from the Gulf, but was sorely disappointed by this exhibit. The exhibit exists of many posters on the wall explaining the life of a pirate and the history of Jean LaFitte, a pirate who set up shop in Galveston. There were only a few artifacts to look at. I will say the mock up of a pirate ship was neat.
Overall, this was very informative, but disappointing. It appears someone read a history book of Jean LaFitte and made posters about it and added a mocked-​up ship.

Just checked out this new «attraction». Wow it was boring and totally overpriced. I kept asking myself where does this get interesting? All it is a few rooms with some pirate facts on posters scattered through out the space. There were a few families with kids in there and the poor children looked board and were asking to leave. They should at the very least have the intergraded listening devices so you don’t have to try and read all the boring posters. I wish there would of been some interaction exhibits as well. Maybe… maybe if it was half of $ 10.00 to get it might be worth it. Plus they add tax to that! Who doesn’t have the taxes already added in to the ticket price?!

It’s a new hot spot in Galveston! This brand new museum is opening on Jan 27^th. It is very kids friendly and fun!
A lot of interactions in the museum. You will see pirates of Louisiana, pirates of Galveston and pirates in Hollywood.
There is also a hunt house! Really well designed. Enjoy!
