AMC Roosevelt Field 8

This is probably the worst theater on the planet. A women working at the theater didn’t allow myself and a few friends into Deadpool this past weekend, even with a paying adult and paid tickets for us all. This was obviously because she has micro-​aggressions (the everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or. unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership) to under 17-​year olds. This theater tries to get you with their reclining seats and their Coca-​Cola Freestyle machines, but in the end, it’s their staff and their interests regarding certain groups of people that get in the way of true success.

Beautifully renovated amc theater but the theater should allow you to reserve seat numbers online since there is less seating with the new recliners. Arrive early if you want to actually sit with your date/​significant other/​friends/​family. I had to sit very close to the screen just to sit with my boyfriend on Valentine’s Day and I get motion sickness very easily. Not enough kiosks to print tickets as well.

This review is post-​renovation. The reclining seats are awesome, and they have not implemented reserved seating yet. Everything is new, and I love the «make your own Coke» machines.
The staff sucks. You have one decent employee up front helping people with the ticket machines. Everyone else behind the counter are slow, apathetic and useless. Where are the managers? Why are four staff people allowed to fool around and not take care of customers when a line is stretched out front?
Once you take a gander at the food behind the counter, you won’t want anything anyway. It’s disgustingly dirty back there. Popcorn all over the floor, garbage all over the place, and no one cleaning. Red flag.
I know the Raceway isn’t as updated, but I still feel as though I get a better movie experience there. Time will tell if things get better.

First time at AMC roosevelt Field since it reopened this past winter 2015. My wife and I had a mixed experience here unfortunately. The recliners a first for us were really great once you realized that you adjust them with a button on the side, very comfortable. The theater itself looks very modern both inside and out. If your movie is upstairs there is a long escalator ride to the second level, so buy your food ahead and go to the bathroom downstairs before the film. The sound is very good, important for both of us as we are hearing impaired. During some loud scenes even the seats seem to vibrant. Now the problem, since we are hard of hearing both of us use captive hearing devices these devices either gooseneck screens or glasses which show captions are a godsend to us and millions of others who are hearing handicapped. We got the goosenecks and first one was defective it was replaced, only for both of our devices not to work when the movie started. The manager tried two other ones to no avail so we had to sit through a very exciting movie getting only bits and pieces of the dialogue in the end they gave us two free passes. Maybe we’ll try it again in the future.

Holy holy wow. I’ve been to movie theaters all over the country and even in SE Asia (who I think is the leader in theaters bc of their technology) but this is the most comfortable seating I’ve experienced yet.
The recliners are soft and you just sink into them, and then with the push of a button, away you go! Reclining, with foot rest included. I always get so fidgety trying to put my legs and feet somewhere during a movie, and this theater solved it. No more wiggling around!
The entire renovation is really impressive and was much, much needed. The only gripe I have is that I was there on a Sunday afternoon and the concession line was wrapping around the ‘line’ area. Two employees were trying to service about 15 – 20 customers as we all stood there waiting. Now, I get it. The renovations cost a lot and they have to probably scale back somewhere.
So, get there early if you want popcorn and your previews, too!

Had an excellent time at the newly renovated AMC Roosevelt Field 8. We decided to take a chance on this theatre and see Star Wars: The Force Awakens a couple of days after it reopened, and it was an overall positive experience.
I had never been to the original theatre, but I have been to at least one other remodeled AMC, and I thought that this one was much nicer than that other one. It could have just been the shiny new-​ness of it all, but I thought it was much more slick and clean with even nicer reclining chairs than I was accustomed to. You can lounge around at the touch of a few buttons! The seats were very comfortable, and the rows are spread out enough so that even if someone has their feet kicked up, you should be able to get by them. I did have a run-​in with someone’s shoe, but you can see the space in some of the pictures that other Unilocalers have posted.
As for the viewing experience, it was great! The picture quality was excellent, as was the audio. I was glad that the sound system didn’t get overwhelmed by the battle noises. Like Laura C. said, there wasn’t any pitchiness or static. I also couldn’t hear any clashing sounds from the neighboring theatres either, but I could have just been enthralled enough by Star Wars not to notice.
The concession stand was pretty much like every other concession stand. It was clean, with the usual ridiculous prices on the usual candies. I was excited about the Coke freestyle stations, but was boring and only got a plain old Barq’s root beer.
One of my complaints is that we ordered our tickets online (because who wants to wait in a line?) and we still waited in line with people who hadn’t already ordered their tickets. I’m used to a separate kiosk area for ticket pick-​up at the other AMC, but we had to wait to use the same super fancy self-​serve touchscreen machines that everyone else was using to purchase tickets. Some of these machines were out of order/​giving other customers problems at the time, so I am hoping that the combined line was just a function of not enough machines and not actually how ticket pick-​ups will be dealt with in the future.
All in all, we had a great time here and will definitely be back. It might be out go-​to theatre now!

Worst movie theater experience… bought tickets online but still had to wait in same long line as people who did not buy tickets ahead of time… arrived at a reasonable time for a popular movie but all seats together were taken only single seats at ends and first row open. should be able to pre-​select seats like most other theaters… very disappointed, they need to revamp theater… would not come back here!

Having heard a lot about the new remodeling, I had some pretty high hopes and expectations for this theater. Sadly, I wasn’t very impressed, and WON’T be returning.
Positive: Nice remodel. Ok, I haven’t been to this theater in YEARS prior to the remodeling, but for the most part, and given the limited space they really had to work with (and I do mean limited), I think they accomplished mostly what they set out for, minus some quips. The theater is presented well on the outside, has a more modern and cleaner look on the inside, and has those cool sofa chair seats they keep screaming about. Although to be fair, the chairs are shown to be MUCH bigger and comfier looking in the advertisements I’ve seen in other theaters. No big giant red chairs here, but just smaller ones. …they still recline at least. Overall everything is pretty enough looking.
Positive: Concession prices. I wasn’t only overjoyed at their use of those new multi-​soda grand soda machines (you know, those self-​serving ones that house like virtually EVERY brand owned by Coca-​cola?), but their prices were pretty good and a bit lower than I’ve seen at other theaters. Particularly Westbury AMC Raceway and the Farmingdale Multiplex. I was also excited that you can refill to your heart’s content!
Positive: Reclining seats. Yes, they recline… but that isn’t a BIG positive. …I’ll explain more in a bit below.
Negative: Remodel fairly plain. Ok, now although it looks far better than it used to, I feel like a lot of the space wasn’t utilized that creatively or even cleverly. Sure, it’s all new, but the main lobby has a seating area that just feels like a throwaway last ditch effort, and there are still some corners here and there, as well as stacked materials, that are still sitting around randomly. Really? Why not take care of EVERYTHING before you open up? I guess the employees figure nobody will care… but still, those little things do perturb the overall presentation. Also, having 2 theaters upstairs and 1 escalator makes trips to the bathroom and concession awkward and inconvenient. Plus, the escalator failed twice when I was there, so running up and down the stairs was simply annoying. It’s obvious they had limited space or else they would’ve put a restroom upstairs as well. Moreover, only ONE restroom with only TWO stalls? Com’on, this is a movie theater, not a diner! If you want to know how to make a PROPER movie theater restroom, take a page out of the AMC Westbury Raceway 10 theater. Now THAT, is a bathroom!
Negative: Mostly failed theater design. Now you know all those amazing reclining seats they keep screaming about? Well, it turns out having such seats makes theaters MUCH smaller in terms of seating capacity. Not only that, but having to level off, in such a major degree, each seating level actually hurt the viewing experience. How? Well, as seen in the pics below, in front of each reclining seat row is a wall that separates the next seating row in front of it. The issue here is that the wall portion is actually built TOO HIGH, making viewing for anybody shorter than 5’6″ hindered. If anyone this height is not completely propped up, back straight, or reclines the seat a significant amount, you actually have a few inches of the bottom of the theater screen CUT OFF from view! Me being 5’5″, I couldn’t really utilize the reclining feature because I had to sit up straight in order to be able to see the entire movie screen. I was amazed how such a design error could’ve been overlooked. A normal sized child would actually need a BOOSTER to be able to see the whole screen! Seriously? It’s not like you even NEED that wall there anyhow, as your seat ends about 5 to 6 feet from it. I also didn’t find the reclining seats to be that much softer or more comfortable than standard theater seats. They were a bit too firm for my liking.
*MAJOR* Negative: Dopey and mismanaged staff. Now while the staff there technically do their jobs, it’s really to a fairly minimal degree. This flaw is mostly highlighted in the concession stand, which seems like just a bunch of high school kids hanging out, and when they kinda feel like it, they take initiative to actually serve the customers. When waiting on line to buy a drink, I noticed there were 2 cashier machines open, but only ONE cashier doing any actual work serving customers. To the right of him were about FOUR employees just standing around hanging out and chatting away, while at the left of him, there was an employee standing at his OPEN register simply chatting away with another theater employee, as if there were no customers waiting. Lastly, the actual MANAGER was just as bad as the rest, half-​heartedly giving orders almost sarcastically. Even when taking my order the kid took forever to give me my change. Very unprofessional.
Last negative: There is no effort made whatsoever to manage lines while theaters are being cleaned, nor any practical real estate space for them. Big design flaw.

AMC Roosevelt Field 8 has recently reopened and it is born again hard! The mechanized recliners, a wall of Coke-​a-​nators (They call them «freestyle», I like to name them after the Terminator) machines and everything shiny new makes this the standard in movie going.
Upon arrival the ticket counter has self service machines to pay for tickets, or to pick up a Fandango order with an employee there to help move things along. Although I didn’t get any snacks or drinks because I went to such an early weekday show (10am Wednesday) it was nice to see a full line of drink refill machines and other reviews stated they have a good snack selection.
The quality of the movie theater (where you see the movie) is what really floats my boat. Seeing a show in theater 1 (Star Wars in 3D) and having full on recliners that move positions electronically at a touch of button is just the tops! No people pressing against you sharing an armrest, no one kicking your chair from behind, no trouble seeing pass the people in front because everyone will be reclined, but ready for take off!
I swear there is some serious acoustic alchemy going on here because during the previews you could hear a bunch of kids talking when there was no sound at all, but once any audio was playing you could not hear a peep. Even when it was quiet you can tell something was muffling the sound. The audio quality was top notch and I swear these are rumble seats because I was feeling those explosions and crashes throughout my body.
A couple of caveats — the bathrooms here are small! I could almost hear someone at the renovation meeting stating «why do we need a lot of stalls in the bathroom — we will just drive shoppers into the mall where there are plenty». Although the theater is shiny and new, the workers are the same, indifferent teenagers that can’t be bothered to pass you the water bottle you just ordered, stock the bathroom with soap and paper towels, etc.
AMC have set a new standard in movie going where I will not go to another theater without all the amenities this one offers — and why should I when it is close to my house and ticket prices are comparable to most other theaters. I know I stated in a prior review for another theater that I only go to movies once a year, on black friday, but AMC may have just changed the game on me! Netflix and chill. so 2015!

This theater needed such an overhaul, and it finally got one it deserved. The basic layout is fairly similar, at least in the lobby and the theaters on the right, the left side has been opened up more.
The first movie I saw in this was Star Wars n 3D, and what a great experience when your legs are kicked up on a recliners and you don’t feel squished. Plus, if someone is taller then you (like everyone else is to me) they won’t block your view. The bathroom in the lobby was quite small, with I think 3 or 4 stalls, but the faucets were so cool and I could probably just be in there playing with the faucets for five minutes. The hand dryers are attached to the faucet. You don’t need to walk with hands dripping and wait for a hand dryer or towel, it’s right there where you just washed your hands. Ah, technology!
This was also my first time seeing a movie in a reclining seat. I must have looked like an idiot leaning back several times to try and get it to recline, then realizing there is a button on the side. The theater is reminiscent of theaters in the city, where they are built up.
The picture quality was gorgeous on the screen and the sound didn’t get too pitchy or get static when the music or sound effects flared. I will definitely be going here more. I can’t wait to next play with the fun soda machines.

I’m glad that they finally remodeled this place; nicely modernized. The seats are fresh and new. Only issue that I had was that there were no clear directions on where you can pick up tickets that were pre-​purchased online. We stood on line for about 5 minutes with a bunch of other people, thinking that the purpose for purchasing beforehand was a waste of time because no one directed us; almost caused us to get the seats right under the screen. There was only one kiosk available to print the tickets. Otherwise, the place is nice.

I was thrilled when I discovered that this location has reclining seats and you can get star war tickets during the first week after the premier easily.
It’s new and very convenient since you can wondering in the mall next door or go to restaurants near by before your movie starts. The theater was bigger, cleaner, having recline chair, and much easier to get tickets comparing to the AMC location at Fresh meadow. They haven’t have many movie showing yet, but i think it’s worthwhile. The reclining seats are very addictive, but I think once you tried one, you will know that it’s worth the extra money.

Officially my new go-​to theater!
I absolutely adore this theater. The staff was super friendly (everyone from ticket taking to concession), and were ready to answer any questions I had. Buying tickets is self service on a really cool giant tough screen– with a theater staff member on hand to help with every step. The snack selection is great with pizza, hot dogs, chicken strips, nachos, pretzel bites and fries offered. Slushies and soda are available with several self service machines.
Me, oh my are the seats comfy! Reclining seats are the future and AMC Roosevelt Field delivers! With the push of a button you can get the perfect movie seat. For someone like me with chronic back pain– this is heaven sent. You can not reserve seats, but I was surprised at at how many seats there were in one theater.
The bathrooms are squeaky clean with a futuristic washing and drying system. The only thing I’d say this theater is missing is some arcade games– however I can see that their focus when building this was to put more space in the theaters than the lobby. I really am happy with this new location and I enthusiastically recommend it!

This place is awesome!!! The seats recline with a footrest, like you’re watching from your own private theater. So clean and comfortable. I was shocked it was only 12 dollars.

What a spectacular job they did! This remodel has been need for really long time! Finally it is on par with all of the other theaters. Granted there is not that many movies showing right now but it is still worth it! I found out this AMC officially opened up yesterday! Can not wait for more movies to get added! This will be my theater of choice now!
