Long Island Children’s Museum

I came here with my 2 year old. It is good place to spend an afternoon playing. Not as big as I have hoped but if you are local I would recommend the season. If you pay as you go it can get expensive for a small museum. It takes us 1 — 1.5 hours to go through all the exhibits.

It is a fun museum. They have water play area in the summer time. spacious and interactive. There is a big carousel next to the museum.

Gets crowded on weekends like any children’s place. But it’s great! So many interesting learning activities for kids it’s even pretty cool to see all the creative play options as an adult. Can’t wait to see their outside area if it ever gets warm here… April 9^th and it’s sleeting!!! LICM is a must if you have kids and wanna keep them busy aka wear them out wink wink. Enjoy!

Yes it is a germ factory but my 4 year old niece had a lot of fun and so did I. We explored all areas of the museum except for the toddler room. They told me that it was too busy and to come back a little later which we didn’t do. On the Saturday afternoon we visited it was pretty busy but not too bad. She was able to play with and explore everything despite lots of children and adults all over the place. They had the event «messy afternoons» that we attended. In one of the private rooms they had staff running the activity. Three tables each with a different sensory play activity (goop, fake snow, etc) and paper on the floor with crayons to color in another area. It was fun! They provided smocks and we played for about 30 min going to each table at least once. There is a large sink in the room for easy hand washing.
I’d definitely return, just bring my own hand sanitizer!

Came here mid day during the week. We had the place to ourselves. The tot town was a unique experience and my little one Would not leave! Many different educational exhibits, we especially enjoyed the music room.
My big reason for 3 stars was cleanliness. Place hasn’t been dusted and cleaned in years. Look at my pictures. We made sure that when we left we all washed our hands.

We were part of a party, so our visit was very organized. Started off with some arts & crafts in the party room, then off to do activities around the museum, like a scavenger hunt. They museum is big and has lots of interactive stations for the kiddos. They have a separate room for the babies/​toddlers, lots of padding and fun stuff for them to explore.
They have a really cool bubble section, where kids can actually get inside a bubble, my little 1 yr old diva had a blast!
Employees are very helpful… our party experts were great!
Would definitely come back for a visit, this is a great place to keep the kids busy!

Lots of great activities for my 3 year old daughter. Two floors of running a round. Getting excited from one spot to the next. They also have a cafeteria area where you can bring in your own snacks.

This place gets crowded quick but there are many activities for young children. The bubble exhibit is unique and is not found in many other children’s museums.

Loved our experience with our 9 month old. The toddler room has timed admission, which helps with crowd control. They had lots to keep us entertained, staff was friendly, and the museum is on the same block as a fire dept. museum and some other cool looking exhibits.
Tip: Pack your lunches. The cafeteria provides tables, benches and soda/​snack machines but no real food. Perfect if you’re traveling in a group and just want to bring your own food anyway.

SO. MUCH. FUN. It should be called Long Island Children’s and Parent’s museum because I think we had just as much fun as, if not more than, the kids! The children had a blast in the tot spot. Even my 8 month old was totally engaged. We all loved the bubble and music rooms! We had a great time with the building blocks, and so enjoyed the fairy tale room, building wooden flowers, and looking in the mirrors. My sister in law was able to get us tickets through her local library. Parking was no problem. Great place to spend a few hours with the kids for fun and learning, and seems like a nice spot for a children’s birthday party. We’ll return on future NY trips when the baby is older!

I’ve been here a few times and thought it was cute. It’s on the small side compared to other children’s museums. My kids have always had a good time here and it isn’t too expensive.
We were looking for a place to have my youngest son’s birthday and were pleased to find out they had a few birthday party options. We made an appointment with the party coordinator, Tiffany. She was helpful and went over the different options. My son opted to have a «weird science» party, which meant they were going to do several science experiments as well as visit some exhibits. They also offer pizza, cake and food options to be added to the package. Otherwise, you can bring your own food to the party. If you book on a weekday (Friday included), you have the whole museum to yourself, which is nice.
On the day of the party, we were greeted by the staff members who were going to run the party. They made sure everything was taken care of. We had about 40 guests in total and everything was always well controlled and organized. We had kids from 2 – 12 years old and even the grown ups had fun. The kids loved learning about the different experiments and had fun with the hands on portions. It was messy but the staff made sure everyone was cleaned up. They also took care of serving the food and cake. The best part is they took care of setting up and cleaning up! It was a very stress free party and I’m glad we decided to have it there. It’s a little on the pricey side for a 90 minute party, but we never felt rushed and the smile on my son’s face made it worth it.

The LICM is worth the ride, although coming from Brooklyn, it took us an hour. My son enjoyed himself and wanted to stay in the Motion Mania room where they learn about using the balls to understand inertia, force, velocity, speed, etc. He is still young to understand so we will definitely come out here again but so far I’m impressed. There are two floors that has many stations (Bubble area, music room, painting, climbing, communications (the history of phones) building blocks and other little mini stations). The LICM is part of the Museum Row; also next door is Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Cradle of Aviation Museum and the Nassau County’s Firefighter Museum.

This is a great museum for the small kids

The staff is very friendly and you can see they clearly enjoy their jobs and the interaction with the kids.
if your one of those helicopter scared of germs and other kids… don’t be ~just let your kid go have fun

Great way to spend a few hours and keep kids entertained. On Long Island library’s offer free passes year round.

By far the best family outing! My 2 yr old son loved this place. They have activities for all ages. We will def come back for more fun! Our friends love the pics we posted on Facebook. They are even planning a trip to come out and play!
The pros: The bubble area, building blocks, outdoor water/​garden, tot plays pace, sound showers, instruments, and the tool box.
Bonus: my son was exhausted from all the fun!

My 2 yr old daughter had a ball and I think thats all that matters. It was a bit crowded but it was President’s Day. Yes its a bit messy but there are kids running all over the place. They would have to charge double or triple to keep up. They had activties at certain hours but I think my daughter was a bit too young for it. For certain areas they have times which allow you in, such as the toddler area.
I think a birthday party would be fun here, but it also might get a bit too crowded. Again, the kids will have a great time, however the parents might have some anxeity issues with the chaos. My advice, drop your guard, run around with your little one and open a few bottles of wine when they fall asleep early that evening.

Great local museum for kids that like to learn and be active right on Long Island. For years I’ve been going to Long Island children’s science museum in queens and overlooked this local gem. I would have been coming here if I knew how nice it was inside. Bring your own food drinks and snacks. There is a large open cafeteria with soda and snack machines. Admission was $ 12 a person /​child over 1.

Love this place, my son is a huge fan. We often sign out the free pass from our local library to visit (otherwise I would never pay the $ 12 per person). Tuesday’s are the best days to go, they close on Monday to clean the Museum. They have a lot of really great displays including the toddler play area, bubble area and working Radio TV stations for the kids to play with. Parking is easy since the lot is adjacent to the building and the staff are mostly volunteers who love interacting with the kids!

A very good choice for wintery and rainy days! My one year old had so much fun playing with the sand and in the tod room. I give it 4 stars since It is a bit expensive for how dirty it is. Some stuff is out of order and the climbing area is super dirty!

This place is awesome!!! We bought a membership because with an energetic child who loves to keep busy and ask questions you need to have things planned. This place offers many exhibits that kept my 4 year old busy and happy while learning and playing. We’ve been here twice and still haven’t gotten to everything. We came at 2 and stayed til 5!
The only negatives I found:
–Pack a lunch because they only have vending machines.
–you should get some free shows with membership
–it can get crowded at peak times
All in all a really great museum to bring the kids and spend the day or a few hours.
People who complain about this place are spoiled and are prob not used to small city spaces.
