Major Surplus & Survival

I am a big fan of this surplus store and always make time to stop by at least once during my trip to Los Angeles. A wide selection of authentic military surplus, tactical and outdoor clothing and gear. Sometimes it’s hard to get what you’re looking for but you’ll be walking out of the store with a bag full of stuff each time. The staff are very helpful and their prices are reasonable. If you’re looking for a real army navy store then this is it! A real gem!

Do they have phones in the store ??? Been trying to call impossible to get through!!! Kinda annoying cause i dont want to drive all the way there if they dont have what I need.

I’m a vet that doesn’t do parades, vet clubs (i.e., VFW), reunions or stand at off-​ramps with a piece of cardboard and sad-​sack face. I served my time, survived and got on with everything. But, now and then, I see this yahoo named «Gunny» on TV and the character can be intriguing. So when an offer came around to meet him, I geared up in full civvie battle-​rattle and went to Major Surplus with a surf chum to greet the man.
And that was about the best of the visit. The store itself has a fairly good stock of surplus military and survival gear but I’m not a fear-​monger or SHTF gal and didn’t see anything vital to my happiness or security. The only thing I asked for they didn’t have (Israeli battle dressings) or anything similar. I did get a cool Voodoo Tactical tee shirt for only $ 8. Whoo-​hoo!
This was not a very well-​attended event and the highlight was meeting the Gunny. He liked the «Veteran» shirt I wore (or how I filled it out) and we shared a couple laughs before it was time vacate the AO, un-​ass the dust-​off and grab some hot chow. I still won’t do parades or anything like that but it was great meeting the legendary «Gunny». Somehow I doubt he’d be as physical or crudely verbose in today’s beloved corps but then I’m not about to research that. Hollywood couldn’t have found a better rep for the Marines if they tried and even at his age I’d wager he’d still scare the holy crap out of any raw recruit. He’s got that certain age-​old magnetic charm that grows on you. «Let me see your war face! You call THAT a war face? You don’t scare me! Work on it!»

Love this place for their Voodoo Tactical gear. They had an open house today… tons of people and we were able to meet the Gunny in-​store for free (signing and pictures). Awesome time!
Go to Major Surplus for their Voodoo gear and surplus/​survival gear. The prices are reasonable and the few times i’ve walked in, the owners and employees were walking the store and checking on their customers. That’s customer service. Plenty of parking and street parking.

I love this place. Don’t know why cause not an outdoors person. I find the greatest stuff to make into craft projects. Like I’ll get a military cap glam it up with girlie stuff and I have my own unique accessory.
Go and think outside of the box of what or how to make it you. Go at least twice a month. Crazy but I’m hooked.

I love this place. They have great quality stuff for a good price. The workers have always been nice to me helping me when I need help or letting me brows when I am just looking. I love their parking lot sales those are the best.

Great Spot for all of your tactical gear

Went there at 3:00 today and they were closed.
Their website is down too. Guess they’re out of business.
Either way they’re out of business to me. This is the 3^rd time I’ve gone there during their normal business hours and they were closed.

Upset client!!! We arrived on 1÷18÷15 and 10 min prior to «SUPPOSED» posted hours of 11am and almost 1pm still not open! How inconvenient to your customers of two large families that are traveling from San Diego just to visit your store and purchase ALOT of items. If you can’t run a professional business, than change your posted hours online to avoid pissed off clients! UNPROFESSIONAL

Store employees can’t seem to arrive on time to open the establishment during posted operational hours. 1÷11÷15, the store remained unopened more than an hour and a half after the posted 11:00 a.m. opening. I watched more than 10 – 15 cars come and go during that period — great for business. That’s what you get with this mediocre society full of lack luster, low brow clock punchers. Keep voting democrat and this is what you all get. Section 8 quality people «fakin’ it till they make it» through their work day.

My dad loves army surplus stores. And this one is pretty neat! Tons of stuff!. They have everything from clothing, bags, and accessories to Emergency supplies. very cool to check out.

4 stars only because they’re kinda pricey but other than that. this is your one stop shop for all your outdoor camping and earthquake preparedness needs. Staff is friendly and make you feel welcomed. I’m going back to buy some of my camping gear tomorrow.

Good selection of disaster preparedness products. Between REI, Big 5 and Major Surplus you can make a relatively inexpensive and handy «go bag» or disaster kit for your home and car.

ONLINE BUYERS BEWARE!!! i recently placed an online order for a couple of pairs of shorts, one tan and the other O.D. This was back on the 23^rd of April. Today is the 25^th and it shows it has not been shipped yet. The online order system said they have them in stock and the order shows it was «completed», meaning that both pairs of shorts are boxed and ready to ship. I called their customer service and it turns out that they only have the O.D.!! DO NOT buy from this online website unless you LIKE runaround, wrong orders, no current back order status, and poor communication.
On the positive side, they seem to have a huge inventory in their store. To make sure you get what you want, it is BEST to visit their store, hold the product in your hot little hands and then buy it.

Awesome for all your survival needs. Buy MRE’s… also I forgot the name, but its a bucket with 60 meals with 25 year shelf life. Don’t get caught in a disaster or a riot where all the stores and fast food joints are closed. I don’t trust the government! !! Also buy guns and ammo. They don’t sell it here, your on your own lol.
Little pricey on some items, but you get a good idea what’s out there to look for!

Just left my favorite Army Navy store after buying another sweet heavy duty Voodoo tactical bag. I have one backpack for my bug out ready gear and this one today is for my camping gear. I challenge anyone to find a more durable well designed bag out there. I only wish they were made in USA however these bags will easily last a lifetime. Major Surplus has a sweet selection of these bags in different colors and sizes. They also carry everything else you could want in this type of store. The salespeople are also super friendly and enjoy working here which is hard to find in an LA retail store. Parking is easy and free, and you could easily spend a couple hours in here looking around.
Pros: cool stuff, friendly staff, easy to get to.
Cons: less REI and more heavy duty. When the $&@! hits the fan you would want many items from this store.

By far one of the best surplus stores I’ve ever been to. I like to go camping and I am also an airsoft enthusiasts. For the most part, I can get most of my gear for air soft here for a good price (clothing, vest, hats, tactical duffle bags, etc.). As for air soft guns. I wouldn’t come here.
Camping equipment is decent. I can get the general equipment I need here.

As far as Surplus stores go, this one is pretty well done. A lot better than a few others I’ve recently been to. Let’s get to the grits.
This is a military surplus store, most of it is New Military and Military Style things. They get a lot of the airsoft crowd in here and the doomsday crowd.
I’m a general outdoors, hunting, fishing, backpacking and bush crafty kind of guy. So it doesn’t suit all my outdoor needs. The packs you’ll find in here are built more like tanks than for long hikes. Not that you can’t take them up Whitney, but it’ll be a lot heavier than my Osprey, by pounds. But hey, this ain’t REI. You want a bomb proof duffle bag? Molle Straps for your Bug out Bag? this is the place.
They have a lot of camping gear, though a good portion of it is more suited for car/​cabin camping unless you want to haul cast iron pans about the Sierras. They do have a great selection of camp foods and doomsday foods. I bought some water storage containers that are great for base camps where theres no source nearby.
This will fill in the gaps between say… REI and Bass Pro. Major Surplus will have things those spots do not. They also have some cheeky items like ‘Zombie survival kit in a sardine can’. Which is fun.
My only, grip is while they have a small spattering, I wish they had more bushcraft geared supplies. (like a better range of Bush knives, sinew, etc) But hey you can’t have everything.
All in all, it’s a good example of a Military Surplus Store.

More than 40% of the store are new products, that you could purchase at a number of other places I scanned 3 products and 2 of the 3 were priced at competition the other was a bit higher.
40% are items are more military in nature, some «surplus» and some new. These items are a bit more difficult to find and are worth the trip, if that is what you are looking for.
20% of the store are items that you can purchase for that upcoming disaster, MRE’s, canned foods & canned water.

Every time I walk into this place I am reminded of my time spent in the United States Marine Corps; OOH-​RAH! It just has that «smell» of gritty, hard work, sweat, damp canvas, gun powder, spent ammo casings and maybe even a crusty M.R.E pound cake or two.
So, if you’re ready to be «born-​again-​hard» or you just want to hike around with your silly MEET UP group — they’ll have what you’re looking for. Boots, bags, packs, camo waterproof and weatherproof clothes and gear, old ammo cans, sea-​bags, Meals Ready to Eat (MRE), water purification systems, emergency preparedness kits, survival kits, knives, etc. etc. etc.
They have a ton of AIR-​SOFT guns too.
Oh, and they have tons of pins, medals, and other service memorable for USMC, Army, Navy, and Air Force.
