Carson Valley Transmissions

It has been about a year since my visit to them, but I had to share my positive experience. The staff was friendly and super helpful. The best part is they are affordable and… HONEST. They fixed a problem that we spent hundreds on trying to fix elsewhere. They could have lied about another damaged part that would have easily been another 500, but they told us they were crossing-​their fingers it wasn’t the issue because it costs more to fix. They were right about the issue and it wasn’t a second issue and saved us 500. The only bummer is that they only specialize on transmission type stuff… we need a regular mechanic and people like these guys are difficult to find.

We reside near Santa Cruz and vacation every summer near Mammoth Lakes. My 2002 Chevy Duramax is aone ton pick up and had the transmission go out just before arriving at camp. The truck has a Allison 1000 tranny which usually is bullet proof. I could not find a reputable tranny shop near Mammoth, so I had AAA tow me up to Carson Valley Transmission, after reading the reviews at Unilocal as well as calling the shop and talking to the owner.
After discussing the tranny problems with the owner, I decided that I wanted them to do the job. The price they quoted me was very fair and there were no surprises. It was a very clean and well run shop. I’m a weekend mechanic and know a good shop when I see it. Carson Valley Tranmissions is a mom and pop run shop and operated very professionally.
My truck is back home and runs like a top. Thank you Kevin and Brenda Murray for your great service and help!

We were on a family vacation, camping in our travel trailer near Bridgeport, CA. We took a day trip up to Tahoe, and on the way down the hill I lost all power to the wheels in my 1996 ¾ ton 4×4 Suburban.
I had the Suburban towed to Carson Valley Transmission because they were the only shop with any online reviews. While we waited for the tow truck Brenda at Carson Valley Transmission helped us arrange a rental car (Enterprise was closing at 5pm, but had a car ready for us at 5:15).
Tues AM, Brenda informed me that I had destroyed my transfer case. They found a used one in Reno and drove there to pick it up. They opened up the used transfer case to inspect it, and installed it on the truck along with some other parts and services.
The suburban was ready Thurs afternoon, and was running great. It had no problem towing our 7000 lb. trailer over 400 miles home.
I am very happy with the work that Kevin and his team did. Thanks.

After hitting a rock and damaging my VW’s transmission, I had my car towed here. Although they had to order a part overnight to repair it, as soon as it arrived the next day, they had 2 mechanics working on it to put me back on the way home ASAP.
Since their repair, my transmission works as well as ever.
On top of that, they’re extremely friendly and honest folks in this beautiful small town.
