History
Established in 2003.
Founder Benjie Hughes started Backthird Audio as a loft recording studio in the «back third» of a retail recording studio on the Fox River in downtown Aurora, Illinois. Budding relationships with area DJs and musicians led to a simple concept: Create an entertainment company that offers both at weddings and private events, and actually gets the team-up right. Backthird Entertainment was born.
We’ve grown from offering a single band and one DJ to a team of 7 DJs and a core of 4 jazz and pop-string ensembles. Today Backthird performers are trained and certified, and our DJs work exclusively for us. We don’t «book» DJs and musicains. We ARE DJs and musicians.
Meet the Business Owner
Benjie H.
Business Owner
In 2003, Benjie quit his job as a newspaper writer to start a music company. Out of one dying industry and into another! It was April Fool’s Day.
Benjie plays piano and guitar. He’s a wedding DJ and MC, the leader of the Twin Strings pop trio and the producer of the award-winning «Made in Aurora» series of local music LPs. He and his wife, Amy, live just down the river from Backthird Audio. He walks to work most days (it’s usually too cold to swim).
