Gold’s Gym Express

I joined this gym before upgrading to a full Gold’s membership, but this is a great little gym. They offer 2 membership options with the higher option allowing you to bring a guest for free which makes the membership a steal if you are taking advantage of that perk. The gym has ample amounts of treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals. It has also fairly recently added 2 stairmasters. They have a fair amount of life fitness machines, 2 Smith racks, 2 squat racks, a leg press, dumbbells up to 100 pounds, and I’m sure lots more that I’m forgetting about.
The only thing they don’t have here is instructor led classes.
They do now offer personal training though.
They keep this location very clean and the staff is friendly.
I would highly recommend joining this gym.

I switched from my full gym membership to the express and now wish I hadn’t. This location is not well maintained at all. There have been lights out in the women’s locker room entrance for months. There is an awful smell in the bathroom, like raw sewage and I have to hold my breath. The cinema room is great, but the movies are either super loud or too quiet… Can’t they have a set level or at least go in and check it? Now I’m stuck in a 2-​year contract for this Express Gym and can barely handle going anymore. Makes me sad and frustrated.

Hard to know where the problem was. We cancelled and sent proof of new residency to the manager. FIVE credit card withdrawals later (10 weeks), I contested the charges and filed a complaint with the BBB. Response? «We can’t find your account.» So I sent redacted credit card statements. Response? «We have no proof of your moving to a new residence.» So I re-​sent the proof of residency. FINALLY, they acknowledged us and promised to send a refund check. The check did arrive, and that’s why this review wasn’t 1-​star. Was it the manager’s fault? Or Corporate in Dallas? I don’t know, but cancelling should not have been so difficult. Be very careful with Gold’s Gym about those automatic withdrawals.

Great gym. Good parking. Easy access. If you want to get fit, go here. Face it, Texas has hot weather and when it isn’t hot it’s miserable humid. Working out inside is a great luxury. At the price you cannot beat it. As of this month you can get in for $ 16 monthly. How much do you spend on coffee monthly? Stop making excuses and get going.
Frankly, not sure about the «classes» since I don’t use them. I don’t like working out with more than one other person anyway. If you want company when you work out I am sure you can find some here but… why? Get to work and stop jabbering. By the way, there are plenty of fat people there so don’t worry about feeling judged. It’s Georgetown, Texas not Venice Beach. Don’t worry. You’ll feel right at home.
I’d give five stars but no one gets an A+ in my class. A– at best.
Cons: entire huge room wasted on a freezing cold movie room with cardio machines. Could be filled with more free weights or larger abs space. The whole gym is well suited for a variety of needs and is great for suburban housewives and retired old men trying to stave off the inevitable. (I’m not retired but the second part is what I’m trying to do.)
There are TV’s facing the other cardio equipment. I guess it’s OK as long as they stay muted. Ironically, yesterday Fox news was playing to the far right side and ABC news on the far left side. It’s a nice distraction while I am trying to stay balanced on the tread mill. I swear falling off the tread mill is going to kill me faster than anything else.

Since I last wrote my review they have added a leg press and dip bars! For the price of membership I give the place 5 out of 5 now.

I really love this gym! The staff is friendly, there’s always plenty of equipment available, Cardio cinema is awesome! Plus, tanning and massage chairs, and bring a guest for unlimited workouts – all for $ 20/​month! And that’s their premium membership! Cut out tanning, massage chairs, and guest workouts, and you’re down to $ 10/​month! But, why do that? I’ll take the full ride, please…

This placed advertises online that they have classes. They do not have classes.
There is a 30 minute circuit set up when you first walk in. There are always a bunch of old ladies who work out here who want you to stay in prefer during the circuit and give you looks when you go longer than your allowed time… Bagahahah
The cardio machines have Facebook and Twitter so that’s cool. I like the cubbies for your belongings…

The gym itself is fine. However, Gold’s is a company I never want to deal with again. I fulfilled my contract and only attempted to cancel after my initial contract term. There are 3 things to which the company puts in the small print of your contract in order to rip customers off. You are never told about these price gouges when you sign up, and why would they? That would be the moral and honest way of doing business.
1. Be aware that one month out of the year your bill will $ 40 extra (an operating fee) to which you will not be aware until it is removed from the account. When you ask they will say «it stated in the contract»
2. After the term of your contract is completed they will continue to bill you, and tell you that you may only cancel by going to the gym. You will not be made aware of this until the funds are removed from your account. When you ask they will say «it stated in the contract»
3. When you do go to cancel you will still be billed one more month after you cancel. You will not be aware of this until the funds are removed from your account. When you ask they will say «it stated in the contract»
I find it odd that Gold’s Gym can send me 3 e-​mails a day, but they can ‘t send a quick e-​mail saying «hey we’re about to charge you three times your usual bill» or «your contract has expired, come in and cancel or resign your contract. But either way you will be billed». But again, why would they do that? That would be the right thing to do.

I work out here as a guest. They have all of the traditional machines and such, all in great working order. There’s a nice selection of TVs, if that’s your thang. The staff are friendly and welcoming. They offer tanning, massage chairs, and classes, which I really wanna try soon. Even at peak times, I notice there’s plenty of machines to go around which is wonderful.

I hate to do this but I must…
PROS:
— Great workout faculty
— Clean & organized
— Quality machines and a lot of cardio equipment
— Great shower facility/​restrooms
— Perfect price at either $ 10/​month or $ 20 month.
CONS:
(And this is the reason there aren’t 5 stars)
— I tried to cancel and they told me to do it online. I did it online and then I got a confirmation email. Then they charged me for the next month. So I called and was on hold for 30 MINUTES TWICE. Then they said I couldn’t cancel online. What???
It was so easy to sign up but way too difficult to cancel.

Let me start by saying that I’ve been a golds gym member for about 4 years now. Therefore I do pay more a month than the express members. I usually go to the golds off of 1431 & 183a in cedar park because its closer to home, however I work In Georgetown.
I finally convinced a co– worker of mine to join the golds gym family and he joined at the express golds due to closest distance from his house and he said he didn’t need the sauna, pool, & ect.
He told me his experience at this gym after the first time he went to work out and said it was great and that they even had massage chairs & tanning beds… I was immediately thrown for a loop when he said tanning beds… He said it was included in his membership. I have to admit I was kind of upset at the fact that I’m paying more a month to be a regular golds member and the gyms I’ve been to around cedar park and Austin do not have tanning beds. Whenever I do decide to tan, which is a few months out of the year– I end up paying around $ 50-​$ 60 a month for a months worth of tanning at a tanning salon. Therefore, $ 14.06 every 2 weeks taken out of my account for golds plus $ 50-​$ 60 for tanning = about $ 80-​$ 90.
So I came to the conclusion that at least once or twice a week I would just go to the golds express after work & get my tanning fix in with my workout… After all, a golds gym is a golds gym & I can go to any one of my choice right?
Today Thursday 6÷6÷13 my co worker and I were pumped up all day about working out together after work. I even went and bought new tanning lotion at a tanning spa in the Wolfe ranch shopping center.
We got to golds gym express, checked in, and I thought to myself as I was walking to the locker room and looked around «I actually like this location» … The equipment is brand new, it was clean, and not too busy. We worked out for about an hour and at the end I went to the front to ask the front desk guy how the tanning beds work. He explained simply come to the front and basically they assign you one of the three rooms and how the timer works and ect. I said oh ok well here’s my membership key, he scanned it and said «oh you’re a regular golds gym member, yea actually the tanning beds are only for express members, sorry» …
Can anybody please explain the logic behind this BS!!!
So I pay more a month but can’t use the tanning bed… I tried not to take my anger out on the poor guy but I couldn’t help but speak my mind. He claimed that the tanning beds at express are supposed to be like a «perk» for getting their more expensive express package vs the express basic that does not include use of the tanning and chairs. … Excuse me, but i thought being a regular member was supposed to have its perks. At least before express popped up… Apparently not! The guy said he doesn’t know why it’s like that and apologized and let me use it this one time.
So I suppose what I need to do is cancel my regular membership, and downgrade to a golds express and golds can lose money. As well as tell my friends and family to do the same. Or maybe just cancel golds all together and join a different gym.
If it wasn’t for this stupid rule this gym would have got probably 5 stars. But the tanning bed situation for regular members is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard from a gym. I pay more than the person next to me but can’t utilize the whole gym like they just did… What a joke!

A great spot to workout! The staff is friendly, the facility offers many varieties of weight machines AND free weights.
I go there everyday 5 times a week and I absolutely love it!

I’m an international Taekwondo competitor and this gym even for $ 9.99/ mowers ally needs for my training cycles

I joined, and went for the first time today.
In response to the previous review, YES, THEY DO HAVE SHOWERS!!! I know, I was in them. They have 2 regular sized stalls, which have a double curtain with a space between, so you have some privacy, in case you’re shy. There’s also a larger shower, I suppose you could call it like a handicapped stall.
There are even hairdryers available.
I have not yet tried out the theater room, but from what I saw when checking out the place, it was pretty good, exactly what I’d expect. I wasn’t thrilled that they don’t list movie times, they put in a dvd at the front desk and hit ‘start’ every time it ends, but it’s a different movie planned for each day. There’s a TV screen outside the door of that room, so if you get there and work out in the main area, you can keep an eye out for the credits to roll, then make your way in for the next showing.
The thinner guys working the desk seemed a little preoccupied, and I had to repeat anything I asked that was complicated, but oddly enough, the heavier-​set guy got there, and was actually knowledgeable.
3 tanning booths (which looked clean) and 2 massage chairs are available for Gold members, but not for guests, and not for Basic members. (Basic is $ 10 a month, Gold is $ 20, plus a yearly due, and double the due if you want a month by month membership instead of a year-​long contract)
I’ll confess, I didn’t go to get hassled by a personal trainer, I want to be left to my own devices, and if I have trouble, or questions, I’ll ask. The screen above the circuit training area runs a timer for you, including a rest period and set-​up period for the next machine. My guest and I were able to figure out the machines by the labels you can see clearly while using them, and using common sense managed not to hurt ourselves, and got a good workout.
This may not be a good gym for the stereotypical Golds’ Gym member, but I’m not one, and so far I love it.

Don’t take these 3 stars the wrong way. It’s an express gym and that’s about as far as I can go with the rating. That being said, I understand this is a VERY new gym so I thought I’d point out some amateur mistakes that a gym junkie like me experienced while visiting this place for the first time today.
I’ll start with the front desk guy. He was friendly, however, as unkind as this may sound, a HUGE pet peeve of mine is outward appearance for certain job positions. I do not believe that an overweight person should be the first thing that you see when you arrive to a place of health and wellness; it sets a bad tone with me. When you have to wear a XXL polo shirt just to cover your gut, it does not speak professionalism for the company.
Second, I had to ask too many questions. When I arrived, I obviously had never been there before because I was looking for the scanner at the front counter and finally the guy said that he’d do it for me behind the desk. Then I asked him about the class that was about to start and where it was located. It was already 5pm and on the website it states that there are group fitness classes. He said something like «yeah, it’s back in the corner, just look for the girl in the red shirt» and proceeds to point waaay across the gym to the other side. I asked if there was a room to go to and he just said «no» — I’d like a bit more elaboration than «no» but that was that and so I walked to the other side of the gym and found the girl in the red shirt. I was a bit confused because nothing was going on and it was now past 5pm by a few minutes. I asked her if there was a group fitness class and she said «well sort of.» She explained that the so-​called classes were actually just her showing people how to use the upper or lower body machines. Kind of like a circuit I suppose — like Curves or Planet Fitness — but she doesn’t time you, which is what really confused me. Like what was the point of this again?
Which leads me to Third. If you’re going to advertise something LIKE A GROUP FITNESS CLASS, then that’s what it should be. Anyone who’s ever attended a group fitness class knows what a group fitness class is. It’s a group of people with an instructor in front of you who was clearly trained to kick your butt for a certain amount of time. Gold’s has AWESOME group fitness classes that I attend 6 days a week — they should NOT be advertising what I just experienced today as a group fitness class PERIOD. I think it’s just an advertising ploy to get people to join this gym and it’s not right.
Lastly, I just wanted to point out that there are no showers and there is no kids room. Not that any express gym that I’ve been to has had these, but since I’m the first to review, I thought I’d save the trouble for some of you and put it out there.
Overall though, the equipment is brand spankin’ new, it’s clean in the gym, and it’s a much larger express gym than I’ve been to, such as Fitness19 or Snap Fitness. I’m sure it’s worth $ 9.99 a month but do not fall into their advertising of «upgrading» for more privileges because they don’t offer them at this particular gym, you’d have to go elsewhere to another Gold’s to reap the benefits.
