Inner Space Cavern

This was my first visit to any type of ‘natural cavern’. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but my partner wanted to go – so off we went.
When you arrive there is ample parking and a nice gift shop to browse while you are waiting for your tour to start.
We opted for the ‘beginner’ tour — it was a lot of fun. It lasted about an hour and is great for all ages. The only thing to consider is that you need to dress comfortable. There is very little ventilation in the caverns, but the view and commentary from the tour guides are AMAZING. It is well worth the money for you and the kids to give them an idea of how nature works.

We were on our way to Corpus Christi and stopped here on the way on a whim. We decided to take the regular tour, and were not disappointed. It’s a little less shiny and flashy then some other caves, but much more intimate. Ours was a modest group of about 15. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny, and yet let us go at our own pace. He had many cool stories about the formation, and we did not feel like we were rushed. It did get a little confusing toward the end however, when our guide went on ahead of us and at one point we weren’t sure which way to go.
The cave itself is quite pretty and the path is well thought out. We got some nice pictures. It was cool and comfortable down there, and the very best part was at the end when you get to the «Moon Lake.» There was a nice little snack shop and gift shop on site. For approximately $ 20 a person, it was well worth the time taken out on the drive.

Fun place, a good enough time walking around the caves. No bats except old bat guano, but they have an abundance of cool shaped stalagmites & stalactite. Be sure to call in to see what time is best to visit to avoid the hoards of field trips. They also offer military & AAA discounts.
Don’t wear sandals unless you want to get muddy feet.

A fun and memorable way to spend an afternoon. We took our 5 and (almost) 2 year old. We were disappointed at first to learn we could not bring our stroller inside the cave, but it worked out fine in the end. Our toddler had no problem walking the cave and had a blast splashing in the puddles along the way. Our tour guide Megan was fun & knowledgeable. Have fun!

This was our first time going into a cave. We did the adventure tour which is $ 19.95 for an adult, and about 1 hour long. Our tour guide was really friendly & patient (we went on a saturday & their was a lot of noisy kids). I really liked how she used minecraft at times to explain what kind of rock types are in there (mostly to get the kids into it, but grown people play minecraft too :3). She also waited for the stragglers like me who would stay back to take some pictures so that people wouldn’t get in the way. At some point she asked everyone to shot off any light, so that she can turn off the lights in that area of the cave, so that we can experience total darkness which was really cool!

Pretty amazing! The tour was great and well worth the price. Take a jacket! It gets cold

Great tour. Chose the hidden passages as we had already done the classic tour. Takes you to new spaces in the cave that most people will not see. Would like to come again and do the 3.5 hour adventure. JJ was an excellent guide.

We had a great tour, but the fun began when I realized I didn’t have my debit card in my pocket anymore. I called right away and Tanya was so kind. She said for me to come back and they would send a personal tour guide with me to look for my card. I can’t remember the guide’s name who took me into the cave, but she found my card!!! They were so wonderful. The customer service at inner space caverns was top notch.

We went here the week after Christmas with the family. My two kids (3 & 5) loved the caverns. My five-​year-​old was a little nervous at first, but our guide did a great job involving the kids in turning on lights, etc, and the kid warmed up quickly.
The caverns are nice and the story-​telling & props (art wall of animals, highlighted dig area) was a nice touch. Only thing we didn’t love was that our tour guide booked it out at the end and left half the group behind. A different tour guide noticed when she walked past that half the group was missing and he came to find us. He was super awesome and pointed out a bat that our other guide had missed.
Overall, we would definitely go again.

The first time I visited the cavern, it was the first time I had ever been on a cave tour. I was fascinated. It was so much bigger than I had expected. And the fact that no one knew about it for 10,000 years, is pretty crazy. The tour guides are great, they are young, fun and humorous. Its so interesting to learn about the rock formations, and see rocks that are millions of years old.
So, there are a few different tours available. The adventure tour is beginner/​all ages (under 3 are free), then there is the Hidden Passenger tour which is intermediary/​ages 7 & up, and the Wild Cave tour for advanced/​13 years & up, this tour will take up to 4 hours.
Since my first trip, I have returned numerous times to bring friends and out of town visitors. I’d highly recommend checking this place out, especially for those who enjoy geology and natural history.
Tips: Dress in layers, it is pretty chilly down there, but also humid. Per their website, the caves maintain a 72 degree temperate year round. Be advised you will likely see bats. I’d suggest wearing comfortable footwear. Oh, and steer clear of the petrified mountain of guano!

This place is great! We went on two tours: the adventure tour and the hidden passages tour. The adventure tour was interesting, the cave isn’t the largest one I’ve ever been to but it’s a decent size and has some really cool features. The hidden passages tour is a MUST it was awesome and by far the best part of the day. You use flashlights to navigate through the cave and you are in smaller groups, which is nice! Also the hidden passages tour is less touristy than the adventure tour. Just a tip: If you do want to go on the hidden passages tour you need to go early to by your tickets! They were super busy when we went and sold out early in the day!

Great experience and very nice little surprise to discover the inner space cavern. JJ is the best tour guide. He made the tour a lot more interesting and informative!
We learned a lot about caverns I this short ¾ miles drive. The fact that every cubic inch takes 100 years really amazed me.

Really fun way to spend an afternoon. We did the Hidden Passages Tour and I would recommend everyone spend the extra $ 5 to do it. It was just me, my husband and the guide on our tour so we happened to have a very personalized experience. Walking through a cave with only your flashlight was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. We were able to explore at our own pace but it never felt unsafe or scary. Obviously it’s very beautiful so I won’t gush too much about that! Our guide brought along a black light and it was very interesting to see how that lit up the rock. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes as it’s wet in spots and can be slippery. And watch out for tiny bats!

My Austin friends recommended this place as a must-​see but it ended up being a complete waste of time, not to mention waste of gas driving to/​from Austin!
Based on their recommendation, we went with the beginner «Adventure Tour» which was a completely underwhelming snooze fest. With these sorts of tourist traps, I find that the quality of experience is directly tied to how entertaining the tour guide is… while I still scratch my head at all the ⁴⁄₅ star reviews, I can see how a better tour guide would have made the experience more enjoyable.

I haven’t been to on a cavern tour for more than a decade. My girlfriend and I had a Georgetown trip planned out, so we took this opportunity to try it out. Long story short, this place is awesome!
We elected for the Hidden Passages Tour, which I HIGHLY recommend. This tour has a limit of 10 people per session and only runs three times a day, so I recommend reserving a spot beforehand. I managed to get two tickets at the booth 20 minutes before the 3pm tour, but I was paranoid all day that it would be filled up.
The Hidden Passages Tour is a lot more intimate with the cavern. Everyone will have flashlights, not because it looks cool, but because it’s a necessity. The trail has absolutely no lamps or paved roads, so without the flashlights, it’ll literally be pitch black. The route isn’t physically demanding, but will require a level of caution since some parts will be a bit steep and slippery. The rock formations are incredibly cool and you’ll spot a few bats along the way.
Our tour guide, Austin, was great! He knew a great deal of the formations and held a great ratio of talking to us and giving us time to absorb everything around us. He, as well as everyone in my group, were all humorous and genuinely interested in everything. The tour takes around 1.5 hours, which was the perfect amount of time, as I had a great time but was definitely ready to leave the cavern at the end. It was an excellent experience and a great way to get out the house but not into the overbearing summer heat!

Why has it taken me years to come here? If you haven’t been here, why not?!? It’s a great spot to take out-​of-​towners, kids, adults, grandparents (if they are mobile).
It’s about $ 20 a person for a 1-​hour-​ish guided tour. Our tour guide was informative and an absolute delight.
I brought my family and they thoroughly enjoyed it. It is quite magical once you’re underground and looking at how awesome our earth is.
Bring some comfortable shoes and enjoy all this cavern has to offer!

Great cave to explore if it is your first time in a cave. The paths are larger than some of the other caves I have been in, so you don’t feel so claustrophobic.
Our guide David was very entertaining and knowledgeable. We were in a big group with a bunch of kids and he was great with them.
The cave has some impressive formations so worth checking out.

Got a few hours and a yearning for underground exploration? Hop in that damn car and drive straight to Inner Space Caverns!
This may not be the best cave in Texas let alone the US, but for a super close and unique day trip from Austin this was perfect. I was not expecting to like this nearly as much as I did!
We did the regular tour, which was interesting if not a little cheesy. It did feel like a tour for children, which, having been raised by hydrogeologists, was something I didn’t enjoy as much.
Regardless, the formations are absolutely gorgeous and the more adventures tours seem amazing. With those tours you can go into less visited parts of the cave and, fo those of use who are not claustrophobic, a tour where you do true spelunking, shimmying through impossible small cracks and holes. Terrifyingly cool!
Price Tip: Prices are $ 25.00 for adults and (I think) $ 15.00 for kids.

After passing this place countless times on I-​35, seeing the billboard and thinking it was more kitsch than substance, I finally decided to check it out and wow, it was nothing like I expected! This place was such a pleasant surprise! I have to say going in, I was expecting the dated, hokey, kitsch that one might expect from a commercial cave (and I have visited my fair share) so I had been putting off visiting, even though I used to live relatively close. When I saw their 50% off Facebook promo, I figured $ 10 was a safe bet… and wow did I get 3x my money’s worth!
First off, I liked that it was relatively uncrowded and an easy on/​off to I-​35. Secondly, the staff is just so pleasant, as in they act like they actually want to be there. Thirdly… they have a zebra??? Zoe, the zebra was very lively when I paid her a visit, and though there are signs that say «do not feed/​pet the animals» (and righty so cuz she bites!), one of the groundskeepers was feeding her and let me give her some niblets after she calmed down, which I have to say was an amazing way to start my Inner Space experience!
The tour itself was fantastic and that was mostly due to our fantastic and exceptionally knowledgeable tour guide (and resident archaeologist) Katherine! I have been on more cave tours that you can shake cave bacon at and she somehow managed to enlighten me with a knowledge nugget or two! And, per the usual commercial cave tour, you get to experience total darkness (which even as many times as I have experienced, never gets old as it is truly something incredible with the only other natural way to experience it is the deep ocean).
The cave is just beautiful! The formations awe-​inspiring and well maintained/​protected and the adorable bats were literally just above our heads! The different chambers were all just gorgeous, but my hands-​down favorite wass the Moon Lake!
An absolutely wonderful way to spend an hour and 15mins and one of Texas’ prettiest show caves with the added benefit of being within a relatively short drive from Austin!
