Sagadahoc Bay Campground

Stayed here two nights ago in a tent with my dog. I highly recommend getting one of the oceanside sites, they’re up a small cliff from the water and just spectacular. We had the entire tent campground to ourselves. The bathrooms were clean, and the roads to get to the sites were rugged but if my Elantra can make it so can your car. They have firewood for sale, and each site has a picnic table, fire pit, and water.
I couldn’t find anything to complain about. For the review complaining about the oceanside sites being a mile away from the water, the water does go out a mile at low tide, which supposedly makes for great clamming. At high tide the sites are right next to the water… If they were close to the water at low tide they would be underwater the rest of the day. Maybe write a Unilocal review about the moon and the sun if you’d like to complain about the tides.

Ww were unhappy with our experience here: the tent sites are too small, the tent sites and bathrooms were not clean and not well maintained, the roads are difficult to drive on. Some sites on the cliff do have nice views of the bay and it is close to Reid state park (which is beautiful) but there seems to be a total lack of care by owners-​garbage piled up, etc.-find a different place to camp!

Sagadahoc Bay has extremely up to date facilities, clean bathrooms, water at each site and sweeping gorgeous views. The owners are sweet and accommodating (in exchange for a small favor from us we were offered a free kayak rental!) and have an incredible property on their hands. The campground has some unbelievable stargazing when the weather is good and a great beach. Lastly, my friend and I felt incredibly safe. For two college age girls, traveling alone can be a bit dangerous, but this campground was inviting and we didn’t have to worry for a second. The atmosphere is very family oriented and I would recommend it to ANYONE! Go, as long as you bring lots of bug spray. It is right by the water, after all.

This past week I had my very first camping experience at age 50. I am totally surprised to say that I had an amazing time. My family and I picked Sagadahoc Campground because my husband and children had been there before with my parent in-​laws. I have heard great stories for years so it was a no brainer where to go. Upon arriving we checked in at the office and was immediately treated like family by the owner Pat’s mother. We were given maps and WiFi passcodes. The only thing that was was not great but in no way reflected the campground is that the WiFi did not get any signal and there was very limited cell service. We set up camp and talked to Eric, the other half of Pat and Eric. He was just so friendly and outgoing and remembered my in-​laws from years ago! The whole week was great. My daughters rented kayaks right at the office. Wood was always available for sale as well as ice. The bath houses were clean, the showers has plenty of hot water and bathrooms remained stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. The camp sites were clean and level and had the fire pit and picnic table at each. I would highly reccomend this campground to any and all campers. First timers to lifelong campers alike. Pat and Eric will make this an experience you will enjoy and help create memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much!

We had a nice stay here for two days in August 2014. Our site was nice with a good flat place for the tent and water at our site. Very quiet for the most part. Our site was very secluded and peaceful. Staff was super friendly and helpful. It’s fairly rustic and not as spiffy as some of the state parks, but it’s 100% better than most of the other private campgrounds we’ve used in the state. There are no paved roads into the camping area, so your Mini might have issues getting in and out! There were decent toilet and shower facilities nearby and nice big sinks for washing up dishes. There is a wee little beach on site but this location is a tidal flat so the water recedes a long ways for half the day. Fortunately Reid State Park is a short drive away and Popham Beach is also within reasonable driving distance. A general store is located about 10 minutes away. The one caveat I would add is be wary of the «ocean view» sites. We paid a little extra for the ocean view but the view was mostly obscured by a hundreds of yards of trees that lay between us and the water. More of an ocean peek if you happened to be standing in the right place :-). In any case we enjoyed our stay thoroughly and found it to be a good base from which to explore the coast. And big bonus, they will sell you lobsters right off the boat and bring then freshly cooked right to your campsite at off the boat price.

Seriously, I don’t know what the other reviewers were talking about. Yes, there is a field that the trailers go into that are very close together, and that’s where they lose the star, as it kinda blocks up the scenery. Other than that, the roads were fine and-​by the way people-IT’S A CAMPGROUND! These are the same people that if the roads were paved they would be complaining about the lack of quaintness at the campground. The view was fantastic, and when the tide went out that was a special treat. You could walk waaaay out and if you were so apt, go clammin’. All in all I had a pleasant stay.

Stayed two nights last weekend. Tent camped on the cliff. The site was clean. The neighbors were friendly.
It was dark and raining when checked in, the owner drove us out to our camp site. Once the rain ended, the moon came out and lit up bay quite beautifully. At night you can hear the waves crashing into the shore at Reid in the distance.
Perhaps we were just lucky. Perhaps the other reviewers had unrealistic expectations. I would definitely return.
Inexpensive firewood. Potable water at the site. Not quite sure what all the complaining is about.

WHAT A DUMP! My partner and I were ASTONISHED at how different this place was from the images in the 2012 Official State Directory MAINE Camping Guide magazine! Not only is the ad in the magazine lacking in integrity but their website is very misleading (on the bottom of the home page it says «Share your experience» and when you click on it it leads to a skewed page that doesn’t exist). Unlike the review by Shae T. I will say these people lack good intent. The grounds were dirty and the roads were full of divots and huge rocks to drive over (we thought we’d need a 4 wheel drive vehicle while driving up to the upper tent spots that had no clear markings on the trees to indicate what space number it was). It was super creepy and we couldn’t imagine why the campers chose to stay in such a trashy place.
My partner went into the office to get a refund and after 5 min. he wasn’t out of there and I went in to see what was happening. I noticed on the wall next to the door a notice that read to the effect «Don’t bother asking for a REFUND because we will not issue you one.» I was wondering what the holdup was. The machine was issuing a refund on his credit card (thankfully). I guess it all depends on who is asking for a refund. Thankfully we didn’t have a fight on our hands.
I will say that my partner told me the initial response upon asking for the refund he told her «This is the crudest campsite I’ve ever seen.» and her reply was «Crudest? What do you mean?» and he went on explaining the terrible roads and the lousy auto pads and trash around the campgrounds. Her reply was «You hurt my feelings.» regardless… we got our money back and drove up to Boothbay Harbor and found a really nice campground «Shore Hills» on Route 27.

The camp is for some. but not for others. We drove past our campsite and continued to drive on out of that campground. There are no signs or numbers for the sites which caused a bit of confusion and dangerous terrain to drive on. The sites are VERY small and EXTREMELY close to other campers. I’m surprised it is even legal. The cliff camping spots looked nice though but those were all booked. We didn’t ask for a refund because they are a local business with hopefully good intent to upgrade their facilities and grounds. O’well.

Nice campground. Friendly staff. Quiet campsites– always a plus. (i.e., This is not your typical campground with the loud families all over the place.)
The facilities are rather primitive– portable toilets and small showers. However, it’s plenty for just getting away and relaxing.
This place is out of the way, and yet close to Bath, and several state parks in Maine.
Bonus– while I was here, they were able to deliver steamed lobsters to your campsite for $ 6.50 a pound!
