Don Hoffacker’s Air Conditioning & Heating

Very fair prices, good service. Found broken parts still under warranty that larger well known company thought weren’t and were selling me replacement furnaces. Saved bunch of money. Always get 2^nd opinion. Insurance.

Doing the night, while sleeping, I heard the sound of a rocket taking off. It was the heat pump. I called Hoffacker early the next morning. Brian came out that evening. He was right on time. He had a big smile on his face and took off his shoes. I told him the problem and he said right away it was the ice. He checked the unit and found nothing wrong. I am a senior and he explain the problem in terms that I could understand. I didn’t feel that he was in a rush. It was late and I am sure he wanted to get home after a long day. A friend had used Hoffacker a couple of days ago and said they were outstanding. So I did. I would not use anyone else. I felt that this company is honest and the customer use was great.

After trying to user cheaper options for the last couple of years, including one to two person shops and technicians for larger companies that were doing side jobs moonlighting, I decided to finally pay and try to use one of these bigger companies to resolve an issue that we’ve been having with our HVAC system for the past several years.
At first I was I was kind of wary about these kind of companies because of the high prices they’re known for. And specifically have heard Hoffackers mentioned as a «beltway bandit».
But decided to give them a try based off of their good reviews, one of the technicians that we worked with in the past and liked worked for Hoffackers, knew an acquaintance that married into the Hoffackers and always wore and used things with their company name, and also have seen their work trucks in our neighborhood.
Out of the two companies compared, Hoffackers had better prices in both the diagnosis and estimate and also provided some input that made sense in not spending unnecessary money. Their business practices are a little bit more professional, where I don’t know if it was due to an issue in trying to print a receipt while the technician was here, but they ended up mailing a printed copy of the work order/​invoice and receipt, which I thought was nice.
I ended up going with another company for the job that I’m looking to get done now. The reason being I liked the description of the work/​method that the technician from the other company described and also the little bit of extras they discussed in being willing to do. The technician from Hoffackers pretty much only did what was requested, which might’ve been due to the way I requested it, and any extra diagnosis or work would’ve probably added to the cost. The technician from Hoffackers also didn’t really give much detail on the work that would be done. Where he provided a verbal description of the part that needed to be replaced after writing out the order and estimate right before he left. So I ended up having to research the part he mentioned. I probably could have asked him to show the specifics of what he was referring to but didn’t cross my mind until he had already left. The issue, solution and estimate between the two companies were similar. But as mentioned it was the details of the method to resolve the issue and the extras mentioned by the other company, which made us decide to try the other company this time around.
However I wouldn’t hesitate to use Hoffackers again in the future due to their better pricing, decent business practices and sound input/​advice.

I had this company come out because the ac panel was broken due to a water leak. The technician stated he needed to order the panel but kept the unit going while the leak was still happening and did not tell us. Luckily we had to get something out on the ac room later that night and discovered water all over the floor, had we not went in there the whole basement would have flooded. This companies communication was very poor. We had to hire another company to do what they could have which was unclog the drain around the unit which was causing the leak and set up a trap with alarm. Its nice that they ordered a part to fix the panel but they did not fix or address why the panel was broken or attempt to diagnose which could have saved us time and money.

Used them until I discovered that they charged me $ 200 for a $ 30 part, which they defending vigorously as being acceptable — over and above the service charge. It’s one thing to pay a service charge to cover a company’s overhead, but quite another to be charged a ~567% markup on parts. Suggest to anyone listening that you shop around, discuss your problem or need with several vendors to become knowledgeable about your situation and their pricing structure, and then select accordingly. Since this problem with Hoffacker, I have had two HVAC repairs done (two revenue losses to Hoffacker when it could have simply adjusted the part price to reasonable) and discovered real, value-​oriented businesspeople at the helms of each.

We had a new HVAC system installed by Hoffacker’s and couldn’t be happier. It had snowed almost a foot the day that they came to install it and not only were they very careful not to get my carpet dirty, they shoveled my backyard, and completed the work on the time schedule they had initially proposed. They came back to check and make sure it was working properly, made adjustments, and made sure we were happy with the new system. Whenever we have had a question or concern Hoffacker’s has dealt with it immediately and always made it right for us. Couldn’t recommend them more.

We have always had good service from Hoffackers. They show up when they say they will, provide good advice, don’t try to up sell you, and do excellent work. They are reasonably priced and give you many options to meet your budget

I had requested the company come out and assess the AC unit, it was determined that the AC unit needed to be charged. The technician said the unit should have been off and would turn off the unit and return later to charge the AC unit. The technician never returned, when I called the company in the morning, I was told it was be a $ 150 overtime charge to have someone come out. This is unacceptable!

Best people around, customer service superior, installation time superior, quality of work exceptional! Personable and they take responsibility for their work, any minor issues they take care of them immediately. They absolutely clean the place up I didn’t know they were there.

Needed heat pump service — completely iced up, without knowing the cause. Hoffacker’s scheduling was good and next day was available, although I deferred a day to accomodate my work schedule. Technician, Brian, arrived almost at the very start of the service window. Highest marks for his knowledge, work, and customer service. Price was very fair (standard service fee and part replacement) and as advertised. Will definitely use again!

Fantastic experience with Hoffacker replacing my entire HVAC system! They gave me a fair price up front. The techs arrived on time and introduced themselves prior to beginning the work. They fully reviewed the work that was completed prior to leaving. The tech had done some minor damage to the inside of a closet wall while removing the old, cumbersome unit. They sent someone out to fix the wall immediately. They are extremely customer service oriented and it shows. I would highly recommend this company to anyone in need of HVAC service. Great company all the way around!

So here’s my story…
I just bought a new townhouse. The previous owners had a new furnace installed maybe a year ago, and I knew right away that whoever installed it was possibly some sort of chimpanzee. They had installed the furnace without any filters — not just no filter, but no place to PUT a filter — no filter on the unit, no filter on the intakes, just no filter at all. I don’t know much, but I know you need a filter. I also know things get ugly inside the unit if you run with no filter for a long time.
So on the recommendation of someone I know, I decided to call out Hoffacker to look at it.
Someone came out to look at the furnace. I told him what I thought needed done (install filters and check the evaporator coil to see if it needed cleaning, figuring that after a year of no filter it probably does), and additionally that I wanted a return installed in the basement (it’s a finished basement but has no return — you don’t NEED one but it’s good for pulling out the excess humidity that tends to build up in basements). He gave me an estimate and I decided to schedule an appointment to get it done.
The team that showed up consisted of 4 guys — 3 for the furnace work and one for the sheet metal work. I overheard some of what they were talking about and started to worry that this job was going to cost me a bundle as it became apparent what a slapshod job the original installers did; not just no place for a filter but a lot of tape and ramshackle assembly.
In the end, this is what I got:
* Cleaned the evaporator coil (which was indeed coated in fuzz) — $ 299
* Removed debris that had collected in the blower thanks to no filter — no charge
* Fixed some internal insulation that wasn’t put up correctly and was blocking air-​flow (air flow is MUCH stronger throughout the house now) — no charge
* Installed a 12×12 basement return with a washable filter — $ 175
* Installed a 16×20 filter rack and a disposable filter for the main returns — $ 125
= $ 600
This was a good deal less than their estimate.
So now I have a fully functional furnace with proper filters, a return for the basement and a clean coil. The guy said there were a number of other things about the furnace install which were not exactly done to specs but that «it is what it is» and there was no pressing need to redo the rest of it.
So all in all I came out much better than anticipated. Next time I need something done on heating/​AC I plan to call them back for more.
