Ghosts of Gettysburg Tour

We did the tour on Friday, June 10^th at 8pm. Our guide was knowledgable and the stories interesting. We felt as though the tour guides could use a few refreshers, as after touring the Jennie Wade house earlier in the day, the story was much different on the ghost tour. While I understand accounts vary, it would be great if everyone was on the same page. Also our tour guide mixed in a bit too much humor, this was a sad time in history, and we felt the ghost tour should be a bit more serious with more information about the buildings and ghosts we were learning about. Not bad, but room for improvement.

Steve the tour guide had great stories although this tour was not for us. They have a couple tours and I think one is downtown but we were on one that started on outskirts. We had six adults and seven kids. The kids were not entertained. I thought this was going to be more in downtown Gettysburg in dark corners and spooky alleys but like I said it was on the outskirts of town. We like pickets charge that was interesting. I think I will get a history tour next time.

I chose this tour after reviewing others. I have a wife and two daughters aged 8&12 so we weren’t looking for «ghost adventures» type tracking and monitoring. We didn’t want to get locked in an old asylum. We wanted some history and spooky stories and a chance encounter and that’s what we got. We chose the 9 – 1045 walk to the College and back. We stopped a few times on the way and back and heard some gruesome tales and more recent and credible stories of ghost encounters that you may have heard of on TV. I believe the tour guides name was Bill and he was great. Wear some comfy shoes, open your mind and if your kids aren’t total weenies ;’) you’ll have a good time and get a little creeped out.

If you want hokey ghost stories, this tour is for you. I was expecting more history. The little boy on the tour seemed to love it and Anne our tour guide. It just wasn’t us.

Enthusiastic tour guide who knew so much about history. We wish there had been some more ghost stories in there– especially some that didn’t just seem to be stories that our guide had heard from people. Are there any commonly known ghosts? ! It also could have been a little longer than 1 hour 15 minutes.

This was a decent tour for a good price — $ 10/​each. You should reserve the tour you want online ahead of time. It was neat to walk around and hear some history of the buildings. I enjoyed hearing about past incidents on our tour. I so desperately wanted to experience something and didn’t! I appreciated that our guide was honest in telling us he has been doing this for 20+ years and has only ever experienced something on the tour 2 – 3 times. They’re not in it to scare you but to inform you of history and share some info.

As luck would have it, we took the Ghost tour after the Battlefield Tour. This is a fun tour, whether you believe in the paranormal or not. Our guide was quite informative entertaining during our tour and dressed for the period. The only disappointment would be that we didn’t get to enter any buildings,
Wear comfortable shoes folks, this is a walking tour.

I took the bus tour and enjoyed the wide ranging view of the battle. I am a total skeptic of ghost stories but this gives a more human view of the battle and is worth the cost of the ride just for that. I also liked how the guide touched on stuff outside of the battle and mentioned less frequent parts of the battle.
This is a great tour and well worth your time. A Q&A session would make it perfect.

The staff was friendly and organized. We took the tour on a very busy night (a whole volley ball team) and the crowd was split into 2 groups. Roger was my guide and he was a very engaging storyteller. We heard a lot of history but mostly tales of the ghosts’ origins. My teenage son found it to be very enjoyable… he’s 14. If he liked it that says a lot. Tickets were only about $ 8 per person so I had no problem with the fact that the guides work for tips. If you’re going to do Gettysburg then the ghosts aren’t to be overlooked.

So tonight we had reservations for the 9 p.m. tour. we got there around 8:15, bought our tickets, and inquired about a restroom. To my disappointment the restroom they used to have had been closed and we were directed to the ice cream store two blocks away. Luckily the ice cream was good and homemade. We treked back to the starting point getting there about 10 minutes early. We had watched a storm roll in with lightning setting the mood for the tour. At 9 p.m. we were informed that they were delaying the start to see if the storm would pass and we would try at 9:10. At that time, one of the staff came out to the porch and gave us three options. 1. Come to the 9:45 tour. 2. Come back the next night. Or 3. Full refund. I understand they were concerned about the lightning, but you would think they would have an alternative that could be done inside. Also the tour guides work for tips, so I wondered where our $ 11 per person fee went. The gift shop is small and somewhat disappointing. Now I had a good tour 6 years ago from this one, but the lack of facilities and the lack of an indoor option changed me from 4 to 3 stars. Also, be forwarned: last time we had a person in a wheelchair with us on a tour. They said it was handicap accessible… it’s not. The city’s walkways are cracked and heaved and make it hard to push a wheelchair.

This was a great walking tour of Gettysburg for a great price! My tour was almost two hours and very informative. I love hearing the tales of the buildings and it’s spirits! Highly recommended!

OK I’ve been on quite a few ghost tours (New Hope, PA; Philadelphia; Baltimore) mostly because I’m a history buff and although I’m not completely sold on ghosts the stories that lead up to the ghost part are often very interesting and fun. It’s especially a good time and maybe a little creepier when you are standing in front of the house in which these events took place in. The Baltimore Street tour lacked this one feature, more than half of the stories our guide told us about took place either on the other side of town, on the college campus or out on the battlefield. I could have sat in a classroom and learned the same things. The group that we were in had about 30 people, some of them kids with parents who didn’t tell them to keep quiet. Not to mention the traffic was very loud, the combination of these things made our guide very hard to hear.
On the positive side, it was a nice night to get some fresh air and the guide did genuinely seem to be enjoying herself and her job. The cost is pretty affordable compared to the others I have been on as well. So if you want a nice night walking the town and hearing history about the area than take a tour but I think I might seek out other tours they offer besides the Baltimore Street one.

Whether or not you believe in ghosts, this is an educational tour from a historic perspective. As David suggested, make sure you tour the battlefield first so you will have a better feeling of the scope of the town.
We took the walking tour that went to Gettysburg College. I was leery at the cheese factor when we first left the house on Baltimore. Too much kitcschy civil war souvenir shops and people in costume. However when we went up the street to a courthouse, it started to become more interesting. It did not help that it was harley weekend and men were roaring their hogs up the street making it difficult to hear at times. At the old courthouse, just a simple frame three story building you’d never guess had been a court, we were being told some fascinating stories. One of the cleaning ladies came out for a smoke break and interjected that yes, it was haunted but the ghosts she had encountered were friendly and did things like moved her keys so she wouldnt’ forget them.
We walked some more over to Gettysburg College. Supposedly one dead soldier appreciates the arts and haunts a new theatre débutante every year. Other buildings housed emergency field hospitals. Have you ever seen the A and E show about the elevator that goes straight to the bottom of a building and opens up to a horrific scene of battlefield blood and amputations? This is it. and yes it’s creepy. I had goosebumps and my camera did weird things with lots of orbs one second and none the next without me moving or changing film speed or lighting. Other stories of haunted houses we passed were also fascinating creepy interesting.
Frankly, everything in Gettysburg is haunted. Make sure you don’t get suckered into some one room «ghost telling» tour though, go with a Nesbitt tour. Likewise, make sure that you have some actual cash on your person to tip your tour guide. I did not and felt so guilty about it. The man was a top notch storyteller, patient, kind, informative and I had nary a dollar to give him.

Highly recommend that you take a tour of the Battlefield first.
There is definitely a somber feeling to the place, but nothing malicious-​just a sadness; as though it had been sewn into the ground.
The Ghost Tour is a walking tour of several blocks and many stories of the many (MANY) paranormal experiences that people have had over the years. Fascinating, informative and entertaining.
