The Gettysburg Hotel, Est. 1797

The rooms and facilities are beautiful, but you are solely paying for location.
The amenities are almost laughable. There is no atm, no vending machines, no room service. The amenities list pretty much says «conveniently located across the street» or «conveniently located down the block»
Coffee in the morning is free at the restaurant, but we were charged $ 4 for two cups.
We come to Gettysburg every year on the first weekend in May. As convenient as the location is to the majestic and how lovely the place is, we will not be returning.

STAY HERE! I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START everything was awesome. Not one negative at all. Well wait– it would be nice to have a bell hop at the back door to assist to the parking garage but otherwise it was perfect. The staff the room all of it!
Great décor great service. To knit pick send rude — maybe vessels of water on each floor or information on how to maximize the day in the room— just a great place.

Expensive hotel, but it’s so worth it. If you like ghosts, stay in room 406. We left and recorded the room and within 3 mins of leaving, we had paranormal activity. Around 3 am I saw a soldier in the corner. When I was showering my boyfriend saw a lady walk through our room into the next. It’s definitely haunted, and definitely worth your time and money. Very very clean, and nice staff as well. I highly recommend going downstairs to One Lincoln for breakfast. We will definitely be back.

Best location in Gettysburg. Rooms are modernized, comfortable and super clean. Staff are awesome, special thanks to Linda. Blue and Grey across the street has excellent food and drinks. We hated to leave.

We stayed Valentine’s weekend in room 226. It had an amazing view of the wills house and the center of town. The room was beautiful and the hotel was well kept. Our room had a fireplace and Jacuzzi tub and the beds were extremely comfortable. Parking was convenient in racehorse alley and it was a short walking distance to all the shops in town. We will definitely be back to stay again. the staff were very helpful and it had a beautiful restaurant on the bottom floor.

The hotel is beautiful and the buffet was very nice. However, the hotel may want to consider keeping drunk people out of the ballroom who insult their other guests. I was highly offended by the woman sitting next to us ruined our thanksgiving lunch by insulting my 12 year old son. If these are the type of patrons this establishment prides itself on serving we shall not be returning.

Nice hotel — pleasant staff. Get new bedding — the sheets were very scratchy and the pillows were like a bag of old cotton balls.

I stayed at this hotel for a business event and thought it was very clean and efficient. The front desk was relatively helpful. The rooms were very clean. The gym was small but nice.
There were a few negatives for this hotel. It doesn’t have room service which is bizarre since it is attached to a restaurant. The bathrooms are in desperate need of renovation. Flushing my toilet was a challenge and the shower/​bathtub looked old. You can’t turn on the light in the bathroom without also turning on the vent. The air conditioning system is very old. It would blow very heavily in one spot. The WIFI was also very slow.

My wife, daughter and I really liked this place. It was very nice and the staff was very helpful. They have a small hotel bar which I thought was the perfect place to finish our day. Terri was our bar tender. She was friendly and entertaining. I give the bar an easy 5 stars. I don’t like the parking circumstances nor do I like them limiting my use of the air conditioner. I like it cold but the limits only allowed me to set the system to 68°. The air conditioning is the reason I will look for a different place to stay in March, when we return. For most people, I’m sure it will be fine but I like, what I like.

My husband and I decided on a quick get away this past weekend, August 28 – 30, 2015. The hotel location is perfect! The staff was friendly. The bar is well appointed. It is walking distance to many eateries and bars. We had a fantastic time! The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is because the windows were completely filthy. We had the Governor Casey Suite in the front of the hotel and wanted to enjoy the view of the center of town, unfortunately our view was nothing but very dirty windows on the outside. We couldn’t take pictures and couldn’t enjoy the hustle and bustle of the town square. Hire window cleaners!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 1 night last night, I brought him for his birthday weekend and we had a fantastic time.
The hotel is beautifully renovated, the room was clean, nicely decorated, and large! The jetted tub worked great, the location is great, and the staff is awesome.
I could understand how having to pay to park in the lot may bother some, but I live in Philadelphia and am very accustomed to paying for parking. Also, we were on the 5^th floor and in the front of the building, due to the fantastic location of the hotel you will hear people hanging out outside until the bars close at 2, but again coming from the city that didn’t bother me at all. Maybe ask for a room on the back side of the building if noise bothers you.
Unfortunately we were only here one night so I did not have a chance to use the pool.

I called at 3 to arrange a room for the night. We got in, and loved the hotel right from our first look. The building is gorgeous overlooking the town’s square. Our check-​in was fast and painless. We arrived to our room and were happily surprised with the size and cleanliness. The lady at the desk pointed us in the direction of a haunted candlelight walk, and what to see before we visited the park the next day. I recommend this hotel for sure!

Stayed here for the first time this past weekend (August 14 – 16). Overall, a good experience. I would recommend it to others subject to my comments below.
PROS: Excellent location in «downtown» Gettysburg, which is very quaint. The hotel is within walking distance of a number of local eateries and other establishments. The further you’re willing to walk, the more that is available as you explore Gettysburg. (The actual National Park is not really within reasonable walking distance but is a very short drive away.) If you’re looking for a «town» feel with the ability to walk to places, this is an excellent choice.
Another decent plus is the rooftop pool. It’s very small, as is the deck area, but if you’re a male who has dragged your significant other, as I did, to check out the battlefield, the pool gives her a chance to unwind and get some sun while you plot which monument you want to see next. It’s a nice plus to the hotel. Along these lines, I find the town setting more conducive to enjoyment by couples, particularly if one is more interested than the other in the history of the area. Staying out at one of the remote highway hotels and driving back and forth from the battlefield, and eating at chain restaurants, can get boring for the non-​Civil War obsessed.
As far as the rooms themselves, we stayed in a small suite. It was relatively well-​appointed for this level of establishment. There was a couch and flat screen, among other things, in the «living room,» a sink, refrigerator and microwave in the kitchenette, and another flat screen in the bedroom. The bathroom is very small (no sharing the sink or mirror). Closet space was ample. The complementary WiFi worked without a problem and there was a small desk and chair for using your laptop or other devices. For a couple staying a weekend it was more than adequate.
Lastly, the front desk staff was also extremely nice and helpful. No complaints there.
CONS: Nothing terrible, but a few things should be noted. First, this is a nice place but it’s not a 5-​star hotel. There’s no valet parking, no one to help you with your bags, nor a separate concierge (at least as far as i can tell). So keep your expectations in check. It may be one of the nicer places in Gettysburg but it is not a luxury hotel.
Speaking of the parking, it’s not so great. There’s a municipal lot right behind the hotel but parking there is a bit of hassle. It wasn’t until after we checked in that the hotel’s front staff explained the situation, which involves getting a parking pass from the municipality, which you can do at the hotel, for a particular spot. Otherwise, you pay as you go. It’s pretty confusing and a standard parking lot setup with gates, which is apparently the way it used to be, would be much preferred.
Another complaint is the cleanliness of the room upon check in. I did my usual close inspection of the bed for bedbugs and that sort of thing and did not find anything of concern, although the mattresses are not encased in a plastic sleeve as many hotels are now doing, and is my preference. Rather, the issue was with the bathroom, which could have been a little cleaner. There were some stray hairs in the shower and elsewhere that should not have been there.
Lastly, the «fitness room» is weak. It’s very small and for strength training the only pieces of equipment were a set of fixed dumbells that went up to 50 pounds and an adjustable bench. That’s it. As far as cardio, there were two treadmills, an elliptical machine, and a stationary bike. However, only the treadmills appeared to be working. The size of the room would make it difficult for more than two people to workout at the same time and if both were strength training you could forget it. You’re not getting much of a workout here.
I never got to check out the hotel bar or dining establishment so I cannot comment on either.

Nice staff. Cozy rooms. Throwback feel. Comfortable beds. Smack in the middle of town. Tons of shopping, bars and fun this to see and do. No shuttle buses.

I travel for a living. I stay at hotels all the time. I also conduct property condition assessments on hotels. So when I’m not staying in one, I’m inspecting them. Not that I’m trying to give more weight to my review. But i know hotels as a customer, inspector, and dealing with staff on a professional level. That being said…
We travel up to Gettysburg at least twice a year, including every Thanksgiving. This used to be our hotel of choice.
That was before all the renovations. I even don’t want to get into all the racket they made while were trying to rest during those renovations. But they changed the whole atmosphere of the hotel. It used to have that cozy 19^th century period feel to it. (Isn’t that what we come to Gettysburg for?) It had a wonderful breakfast in the front room that overlooked the square.
Now they modernized it. Converted the nice cozy breakfast area to a cold modern business area. (Do most of us go to Gettysburg for the modern feel?) Now your most convenient option for breakfast is at the overpriced below average food at the adjoining restaurant next door. To put the icing on the cake, you now had to pay daily parking at the parking garage. Something that used to and still should be included with your stay.
Now on to the staff.
With the new renovations came a new attitude and/​or new staff. The housekeeping and maintenance staff were their usual friendly and helpful selves. But the new management, i can’t say the same thing. We are leisurely packing up for our trip home. Knowing that the house keepers are on a schedule. I asked if she needed to clean our room immediately. She told us to take our time it would be awhile till she made it down there. 10mins later there is a bang on the door and the manager asked if were leaving or staying another day. And we need to check out immediately. I’ve had polite calls from the front desk before when i’ve ran over some, but never treated like I was being thrown out. That was our last stay.
We now stay at the Platinum Awarded Quality Inn at General Lee’s Headquarters. (Before it was forced to close.) Here we are welcomed warmly like family when we arrive and leave each time.

I’ll give the hotel 5 star because the staff (specifically Erin) is simply amazing. The room is very nice and big with a fire place and all around comfortable. Pleasant Staff All around.
I had a bad experience with some kids who yelled racial and homophobic remarks to me outside the hotel, then followed me in the lobby to demand my cell phone while still referring to my race and their perceived sexual orientation of me. I usually would NOT take this lightly but I had to this time. While this hotel had nothing to do with that experience, Erin at the front desk quickly offered me a phone to call the police and also offered me a meal voucher. It was a small gesture but I appriciated it. I’m still however unnerved.
Also. This morning I spoke with the General Manager of the hotel Mr. Moran. These people are fantastic. I would recommend this hotel. It’s beautiful all over and the management and workers are very well trained and accomdating. My experience mentioned pales in comparison to the care and concern I felt coming from the workers here. Thanks.

I have stayed here a number of times over the last four years. The customer service at front desk and in the bar/​restaurant has always been very welcoming and nice. However on a recent visit two weeks ago I arrived to an uncleaned bathroom– hair and soap still in the tub. When I turned my bed down there was hair on the bottom sheets. Clean sheets were delivered to my room– whereupon I changed the bed myself. A «free breakfast coupon» was slipped under my door for these «inconveniences.» I did not use the coupon but did ask to speak to a manager at his/​her convenience & left my phone number. Nobody ever responded. I stayed two nights. The only way this hotel gets away with this is purely because of the location to Gettysburg College. Very disappointing, next time I travel 3000 miles to come see my son I will stay elsewhere.

and so glad we stayed here! From the outside, the hotel is BEAUTIFUL! The inside is a mix of class and history. The hotel is a bit more modern then the rest that we were researching which is my preference. The rooms are very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. The room overall was perfect. The location is also perfect because you are right in Lincoln Square and are within a quick walk to multiple restaurants and in the center of the «downtown» area. The hotel customer service was great (we didn’t really need much) but they were friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again!

I came to this hotel with my classmates and instructors. All the arrangements were made by the school so I came into the hotel completely blind. Checkin was OK. The ladies behind there counter were not very personable, not even a smile. Then a quick ride in the small elevator up to my room. The room was very small and no microwave available. We stayed two nights. We were there to visit the battlefield. I was disappointed in the room and staff especially since the price other room was not cheap.

Great hotel. We had our wedding there. Our coordinator did a great job putting our event together. We got lots of extras included in our event. Cake, honeymoon suite bridal party room and cocktails in the atrium were all included in the $ 50 a person quote. We were able to negotiate special pricing on certain extra things. The cake person was a true artist and made a cake that was magazine worthy. Ballroom is an old bank that was annexed by the hotel. One of those big rooms with ornate ceiling and orignal chandeliers. Everything seems to have been renovated recently. Our suite was very nice. Bar/​Restaurant food was ok but the food for the reception was the best hotel food I have ever had. It was even good compared to most restaurants. We were able to have a very classy wedding on a budget.
