Galaxy Uptown Theatre

Incredibly disappointed they don’t have their VIP section anymore. It used to be great to go see a movie that was 21+ and not have to deal with teens. Wish they wouldn’t have gotten rid of this option. You can still take the alcohol into the theaters, but you still have to deal with kids.
Please bring the 21+ section back!

Love the big spacious reclining seats! The place is super clean too. Just have a little trouble finding a parking spot, so might have to come a few minutes early before the show starts.

Visited the Galaxy Theater today for a New Years Day showing of the film, Joy! We love this theater and the new amazing recliner seats. However, the bottom portion of the screen is cut off by the wall/​partition in front of each row. We moved twice (even noticing not all recliners worked) thinking it was because the higher seats were the problem only to realize it wasn’t our position.
My husband went and spoke with two different employees afterwards, including a manager, to let them know about the problem but felt a little blown off. While an employee acknowledged the problem, the manager, however, offered a refund but argued that they formatted the screen correctly when it clearly hadn’t been for this showing. When I say argued, I really mean argued. We didn’t take the offered refund because we enjoyed the film and seating but felt there should have been a disclaimer when we purchased tickets online that they may be having trouble formatting screens.
We truly do love this theater but expected a more professional response. We didn’t want to seem like we were just out to get a refund.

Great local theater, but plagued by inconsistent projection and sound quality over the years. The current reclining seats have forced the theater to project the image at the top of the screen, eliminating the top portion of the letterbox.
Otherwise kind staff, with good customer service.

This is the best movie theater in which I have ever seen a movie. I remember about 20 years ago the first time I experienced a theater with stadium seating. No longer did I have to pray a tall person didn’t take the seat in front of me! Seeing Star Wars — the Force Awakens at this theater brought those feelings back. Really? Every seat has a fully powered recliner with a privacy wall between your row and the row behind you! How awesome! What? Every seat has a cup holder and a retractable tray for enjoying the ridiculously expensive concessions! Cool! This theater combines all the comforts of home with all that’s awesome about a movie theater!
I was thoroughly impressed, so much so that I could see traveling from my home in Auburn just to come to this theater as I’m not aware of any similar theaters closer to my home.
Seeing Star Wars in this theater was a great bonus. It was an awesome way to enjoy a highly anticipated film!

VIP Theater is the only way to go.
Once I heard there was a 21+ theater in Gig Harbor I checked it out. It has been my favorite place to see movies for years. The only thing I wish they had was a bathroom closer than they do know. Otherwise they have a nice selection of wine and beer, plus some food items that you cannot get at the main counter. Better yet, once you order that food you sit down at your assigned seat and they bring it out to you. The seats have been recently upgraded and now have motorized adjustments for the seats and they are big and comfortable. The also have a wall between rows which seem to cut down on noise as well.
But if you are going especially during the weekends or a new film, book your tickets at home because they sell out fast. Or you can be like me and go during the off times, nothing better than an empty theater to yourself.

I’m never going to another theater again!
Reclining seats?! Yes! Sign me up.
The only downside to this theater is that the show times sell out fast, so I would suggest buying tickets in advance. We got lucky and saw someone get a refund and we swiped a sold out show right then and there for spectre. Tickets were about $ 23, I think for two people.

It’s always a nice feeling when you walk up to a movie theater and there aren’t cop cars everywhere parked in the front. We live in Tacoma and are more than willing to pay the extra bridge toll to come to this theater and avoid the trashy rundown theaters that are Lakewood Regal or Lakewood AMC. The theater rooms have always been super clean and the red leather reclining seats are a plus and not to mention they’re not worn down and cracked like Lakewood AMC’s. I also like that you can reserve your seats online. That way you can take your time and know that you’ll be getting good seats even if you’re running a little late.

Nice and clean. The seats are the problem… they don’t recline that much! I’m used to Loews where u can seriously chillax with a Diet Coke almost horizontally. Not impressed. Felt like I was curled forward. Boo

Big enough seats but back reclines to only about 30 degrees. Footrest all the way to 180 but one of the chairs in our party was broken. Same overpriced movie food offerings you see anyplace else. Great if you live on that side of the Narrows but for Tacoma, AMC in Lakewood have more plushy seats that recline further.

Amazingly comfortable seats in the VIP theater, but the only ones left when we arrived were in the corner of the first row. They were so close that the movie was pretty much unwatchable. Very disappointing and felt ripped off that others were able to enjoy themselves while we were stuck watching distorted faces and trying to read text out of the corners of our eyes.

I love this theater! I am a «movie» person & this one is great. I was so glad when it first opened; that there was a convenient nice cinema for me to frequent. $ 5 Tuesday’s were a great deal, but they have been phased out with the new addition of the reclining luxury chairs. But honestly it was getting so busy on Tuesdays that you could hardly ever get seats. Making reservations to see a movie has been an area of growth for me. I typically like to go more spur of the moment. But I’m getting used to going online to make a reservation. The new seats are very comfortable. You have the ability to put your feet up as well as recline. It makes for a very relaxing & enjoyable movie experience!

Galaxy is an amazing place for a movie. Always friendly service and the snacks are great. I wish there was a 5.00 movie night during the week :) The birthday party room is fun to rent for kids parties :)

So far not impressed with any of the new systems, non of them work, and we can’t seem to get in to see a movie.
In the past we always enjoyed going to the Galaxy in Uptown. They have nice Handicaped seating.
Husband and I went to the theater last night to see a movie, only to find out all movies are by reservation only, so no movie for us on a Friday night. Felt very strange to not to be able to see a movie???
So we went online today to get tickets for next Tuesday. I selected the movie, handicapped seats, time, and paid with debit card. Then a prompt came up that they are having difficulty with or order, and please contact the theater. Well there is no way to contact Galaxy through the website or by phone. So I went on Unilocal to send a chat request the chat said it is not working it may be up to an hour before we hear back. Tried the phone # on Unilocal still no way to talk to a person. The screen went blank so not sure if payment or chat went anywhere?
I guess only non handicapped people can get in the theater now.

My hubby and I came here to watch Avengers Age of Ultron with friends. First off, the theater was very easy to find and there seemed to be a lot of parking space because we went on a Saturday afternoon and there was still lots of spots.
When we got inside, there was no waiting at the concession stand! That was awesome! BUT… the floor around the food area was a bit sticky.
We got our popcorn and drinks and headed in the theater. There was a worker standing at the front door specifically to guide everyone to their seats. That was pretty cool. The seats themselves were nice, clean and modern looking. There was a small desk — like tray table for each individual chair.
Overall, the movie was awesome and I had a great time at that theater. I do see myself returning there.

I was thrilled when Galaxy took the place of the old Gig Harbor theater. Finally, a nice theater close to home. I have been a faithful customer, until today. Since the remodel, all shows and seats are reserve only. No longer first come first serve and there are less seats available. We arrived at 9 am to buy tickets to see the 10 am showing. We were informed the tickets are purchased online now to get a seat, a service I do not use due to the unnecessary surcharge per ticket. The few seats lefts for our chosen show were right below the screen. I’m disappointed more than anything. There was nothing wrong with the theater before, and now its become «elite» like everything else in Uptown. I’m sad to say my family will not be returning.

We had a GREAT time at the private showing room here. Seats are extremely comfortable and love to be able to order wine and beer and enjoyed watching our show! Too bad the reclining chairs aren’t leather and have no foot rest! But hey — we enjoyed ourselves!

Fun theater if you use the vip. They serve beer and wine. However it is $ 7 a glass of wine. The bartender said he finds bottles of wine in the theater. Noted! I will put $ 10 in the tip cup and bring my own bottle. Great atmosphere. Worth the bridge toll.

Adrienne from Galaxy responded to my negative review of the Galaxy Uptown theatre, which I appreciate. However, the experience we had watching «Godzilla» matched the poor experience we had watching «Jurassic Park» in 3D last year so this has been an ongoing problem.
Adrienne said she appreciated my input and that they’ve ordered a new projection bulb for the auditorium where we saw Godzilla. I greatly appreciated her response but we haven’t made it back there to see if the bulb replacement was made.
We went to see a movie at another theatre which is a favorite of mine but what do you know? The same bad projector bulb problem struck there as well. I talked to the manager after the movie and found out those things are expensive and have to be specially ordered and theirs was due the following week. The bulbs are big and heavy and very dangerous. They’re filled with gas and if they shatter glass and metal shards fly out at high velocity. A person in the wrong place can be shredded to bits and otherwise impaled by all that flying shrapnel.
So, I’m cutting Adrienne some slack here since it appears bad projector bulbs are an ongoing problem with movie theatres; but it seemed like Galaxy just had more of them. I plan to return to there at a future date to confirm if the past video quality of their screenings has returned.

This is by no way a VIP Theater but it’s super nice, new and clean. It was my first time over to Gig Harbor. I’ve been to VIP Theaters all over and when this popped up on Fandango as Galaxy VIP I was looking forward to trying another one out but…
VIP Defined: VIP means, reserved seating first and for most, over-​sized chairs preferably recliners, a full menu with a wait staff to take your drinks and order and for those of you who consume alcohol there should be some options for over 21+. A lot of theaters seem to think just because they have reserved seating that somehow it’s VIP but they really should look around and think about that as true VIP theaters are on the rise not just here in America but everywhere. It’s an awesome experience! I highly recommend iPic, AMC, and alike.
Back to Galaxy Gig Harbor, it was a just standard size seats, all close together like normal. Pretty small room and the only thing VIP about it is you can reserve your seating and they had a limited bar that you had to get up and go to in order to get anything from it. No wait staff. Overall the theater is nice, staff was nice, it’s clean, limited menu options but your standard popcorn, chip and dip, pretzel etc… along with the normal prices.
Bottom line, just another theater and I’ve been to far better, bigger and nicer ones that you’ll enjoy your movie. If you live in Gig Harbor then this might be your best option and it’s not awful.
OTHER BETTER OPTIONS:
So far in Seattle, Bellevue Lincoln Square’s Cinemark is the best normal cinema I’ve been to here. Huge, clean, big screens, great seats, huge options for snacks and food and easy to get to.
If you are over 21+ but don’t want to the VIP, I highly recommend Cinebarre. The wait staff in Seattle and Issaquah are awesome. Issaquah location is the best, really nice big seats, huge screens. Both have pub/​diner grub but still a full menu with wait staff that come to you through-​out the movie but the cost is normal theater rates per ticket so you can’t beat it. If you want a true VIP experience, then go to iPic and get the Premium Plus seats. You’ll be in for a treat!
