Freestone Recreation Center

I would like to say part of the reason I bought my home across from freestone was in part to all of the things that my children can do locally one of them being the recreation center included. Upon my first and probably last visit to the Rec Center I had my kids try out the rock wall where the employees seem to take issue with properly explaining the rules for climbing and dismounting the wall as well as how to strap himself in upon climbing my child did break one of the rules which he said was not explained to him and was basically be rated in front of me and my wife at which point is large Caucasian woman came into the mix who was not an employee and proceeded to racially profile and berate and say disgusting things to my family all the while the employee not saying a single thing. I am unsure with his over-​privileged white Gilbert soccer mom had put in her Cheerios this morning but it was a disgusting Display, in front of my and her children of exactly what is wrong with half of the people in Gilbert. Unfortunately I found this out about the Rec Center after purchasing my home. We brought this to the attention of the manager of the Rec Center not only about the disgustingly rude visitor but about their snobby employee they did nothing about the situation and did not do her job properly his basic response was oh well. I will be reporting this to the Gilbert City Council i attended monthly I will also make sure to bring up names as i did get both of them and I do not recommend this horrible place to anybody the weight Center is a joke the place is over packed and there really is not a ton of stuff to do for children between 8 and 11 years old there. Shame on you Recreation Center very disappointed

This recreation center is always very clean. They have a large basket ball court, multiple racket ball room, volleyball net, 1 single studio room for classes they provide for various things, upstairs track that laps around the whole place, day care center for kids, rockwall, pool table, Foosball and ping pong table. The only thing I do not like about this place is the weight center. They have a very small weight lifting center in the corner and it is so cramped and a very odd place for these machines. They dont have much weights upstairs either. But what can you expect when your not paying a regular gym fee. 2 stars for limited equipment and snobby employees

Good place to have a relaxing workout and also a great place to bring your kids. The age range for this place is huge. There are all sorts of activities that you can do here, my personal favorite is racquetball. If you want to play that prepare for a line. It’s always busy.
They have a small workout center that is nice but this place is much more family oriented

Just moved recently and this place catered to my needs. I have 2 kids and they have a daycare center that would watch my kids while I worked out. I opted for the 6 month membership and I thought the price was very reasonable. With that membership, the daycare center was free for up to 2 kids for up to 2 hours. The facility is managed really well (staff are helpful and friendly, bathrooms are spotless). The center has different areas of interest (racketball, basketball, classes, mini track, rock climbing). I have enrolled my kids to various classes that takes place in here as well. The instructors for various classes are really good and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you have little ones. It is an ideal place to work out:)

Having been a personal trainer at a local gym you could say I am a bit of a snob, but Freestone surprised me. I recently moved and Freestone is the closest gym to my house now so I decided to go take a look at it. I love it because it is not busy and it has a good amount of free weights, which I prefer over machines. I wish they had a stair climber but if I really feel the need to work out on stairs I am sure I can find some real ones to climb. Freestone has exactly what I need to maintain my workout routine and I can even ride my bike there!

I’ve been going to Freestone for about 6 months now and I like it better than any gym I have ever belonged to. The staff is friendly and the facilities are great! They have a rockwall and I have seen kids as well as adults on it. Although… I would never do it! The fitness classes they offer are great too and the times work with my schedule.

I love the fact that I can take my 12 year old daughter with me to work out, and it’s a family friendly atmosphere. You don’t have to worry about contracts or sales person pressuring you to renew your membership. It does have limited workout machines compared to regular gyms but if you don’t mind that, this is definitely a great place to work out. This place even has a rock climbing wall and indoor track which is enough for me and my daughter to enjoy going to the place. I can even drop off my daughter and her friends at the rec center so they can have their fun time while I can go do some shopping.

I have been going to Freestone Rec Center for about 3 weeks now, 4 times a week (YAY for me keeping a New Years Resolutions this long). Anyway, the first thing I should point out is this is NOT 24 hour fitness, or LA fitness, or anything you’d probably be expecting from a regular (and expensive) gym. However, if you know what you’re getting beforehand, I think you’ll be very happy.
PROS: Kid’s club, rock-​climbing wall, indoor track, racquetball, pool table, full basketball court, indoor volleyball, variety of drop-​in fitness classes, very inexpensive for a membership, day passes available, very clean
CONS: Limited hours (especially Sunday), free weights, cardio, and exercise equipment are in limited supply, closed on holidays, lots of high-​school kids during certain times
While there aren’t a lot of cardio machines, I have only had to wait once for an elliptical even though I usually go after work (which is the most crowded time). If you’re a real fitness nut, body-​builder, etc. then you probably won’t be very happy here. But if you’re like most people just trying to get in better shape or stay in shape you’ll probably find it has everything you need. I think it’s a great facility!

Now that it’s been several months that I’ve been back, I feel I can give a review. I had stopped going for several years, and went to a couple of different gyms. What’s funny if they were only willing to work with me, I’d still be giving my money to them. Now that I’ve been back at Freestone for a time, they could offer me half of what I’m paying here and I’d turn them down. Here’s a list why:
1) Giving my money to the Town, not to a private business.
2) Updated, clean equipment. Not as big as major gyms, but this does not bother me.
3) Running track! Yes, it’s ¹⁄₁₂ of a mile, but it’s a indoor track so you don’t have to be on the treadmill all the time.
4) Rock wall. Since my kids are too old for the child care now, they can do other things while I run and workout. Or they can run with me! There is also basketball, table tennis, racquetball, pool… unfortunately not a swim pool. That’s not enough for me to take a star away.
5) Friendly atmosphere. The staff don’t have a holier than thou attitude like other gyms. They will talk to you like you’ve known them for years.
6) They have recycling bins set up all over the place. People exercising use a lot of plastic bottles, ya know.
7) Payment options. You can pay for one day. Or a month, or 6, or even a year. YOU get to make the choice, there are no sales pitches.
I don’t take classes, so I am not sure what their offerings are in that category. Overall, it’s just a very comfortable place, with no pressure. You can go alone or make it a family day too. If you live in Gilbert, I highly HIGHLY recommend you take advantage of Freestone. You get your money’s worth two-​fold.

Only thing missing is a pool. Also the track iirc is ¹⁄₈^th miles, so it takes a LOT of laps to get any real jogging in. Other than that this place is great.

I wanted to post an update as I’ve been going to this facility for several weeks now (my original review was after only a couple of visits).
I’ve been mostly going there to attend Zumba class, which I love. The instructor Myuly is fabulous. I generally hate aerobics but the Latin dance moves thrown in with Zumba makes it interesting and fun. At first I felt a little silly, shaking my money maker and all, but when there are 30 other women there (of varying ability levels and body types) doing the same, you just feel comfortable.

My husband and I have an annual pass. Totally worth it! This is a great facility with racquetball courts, an elevated track and rock-​climbing wall. Fitness classes, like zumba and aerobics, are also included in the annual pass.

Right in parent’s backyard, the perfect rescue for the holiday suburban blahs. Very nice, new facility with mutiple intersection spaces and loops, a really fun design. Big rock climbing structure in the middle of the elevated jogging tracks, which also encircles a basketball court and shoots off to the weights and other courts. Great community resource, 5 $/​day for guests. Strangest thing: sauna rooms are practically sitting in the middle of the gym all exposed, rather then discourage wouldn’t this encourage the exhibitionists? You just can’t win with steam rooms!
